I'll copy exactly what I said in my myspace bulletin this morning

In Munich there was a plane crash which killed 23 staff from the greatest football team in the world Manchester United (8 of them players) which were known as the 'Busby Babes' these players had great promise, they could have been the first English team to win the European Cup yet that dream and their lives were cruely taken away from them! Among the dead included Duncan Edwards who judging from what I've seen we would be going on about him as well as George Best and Pele today! Among the survivors was Bobby Charlton who went on to make the most appearances for the club and win the World Cup for England and Matt Busby who 10 years later did finally win the European Cup!

I know some of you are probably sick of this with all the coverage and everything but I thought I'd write it about it in my words as I know some of you would appreciate it at least, anyway most of you know how important this is for me as this is an important part of the history of the greatest football team, my favourite team, almost my religion! Manchester United! I'm grateful for the legacy of every single one of them for I wouldn't have the constant entertainment each week and I wouldn't have the 7 million heart attacks they induce on me every European night!

On a positive note, England and Ireland are playing tonight and you must all cheer on them both! (Yes, even those of you who aren't Irish should cheer on Ireland because I said so hehe)

And also lets not forget the legacy of the Busby babes too, like the greatest moment in sporting history :P

As a lifelong Manchester United fan this has really touched me today :(

Even though I was gonna back Ireland tonight anyway - simply 'cos my mum's Irish (and therefore means that I'm half-Irish).

Obviously this was and is a very sad day. Just looking at old clips of Duncan Edwards makes me realise why the likes of Bobby Charlton & the late Bobby Moore claim he was the greatest footballer they had ever seen. There is no question that bar injury, he would have unquestionably have become the greatest English footballer the World had ever seen bar none.

I'm a Liverpool supporter, but there is no question that the Munich Air disaster robbed United of going on to probably win the European Cup long before 1968 (and denied them winning their third straight League Championship on the trot) and possibly take over dominating European football as Real Madrid were starting to go into decline, and probably if this tragedy did not occur then Manchester United not Liverpool would now be statistically regarded as Britain's most successful football team in the world.

Although I could counter-argue that the Heysel (1985) & Hillsborough (1989) Stadium disasters were equally responsible for the sharp decline of the Merseyside football club that dominated English & European football in the mid-1970s to late 1980s.

I'm sorry for the swearing in my next post, but im outraged.

At the England game, the amount of boos and jeers during and after the minutes silence f*cking disgraced me. TIP is a liverpool fan and achknoledges the sadness and tragedy to all united fans and players, and id be exactly the same to a team im not exactly fond of, say liverpool (eg Hillsbrough) or Chelsea. It just disgusts me that people have no f*cking respect for the people who lost their lives, "loyalties" to a team should not come into it.

Rant over.

I dont care what anyone says about Liverpool's win in Istanbul, that was 1,000,000 times better. It makes me shiver i LOVE it :kink:

I love how Clive says 'can manchester united score? they always score' :D

PS - Sorry for double posting :kink:

t'was a day for rememberance. I remember going on the tour of Old Trafford many moons ago now (about 12-13 years) and them talking about the disaster.

I watched a bit of MUTV as well yesterday.

On another note they should find every booing England fan and ban them from every ground in the country

That's English fans for you though. A large majority of them have no respect whatsoever and I don't even think it's right to call them "fans" as they've no real idea about football. To sum them up i'd call them w*n**rs.

There were chants of "there's only one David Beckham" or something along those lines last night too wasn't there? God, some people really have no idea about football.

Couldn't bloody agree more.

Couldn't bloody agree more.

and on a slight tangent ban the idiots that have lunch at half time in the posh seats and don't come back until about the 60th minute. There are plenty of fans who would do anything to go and see them at Wembley and can't while these fools munch away on a meal

I really hope the Man City fans show some respect.

Despite being a Man City fan - and therefore dispising Man United - Jo has said that she will seriously considering whacking any fans who boo during the silence on Sunday. (Mind you, they'll probably be unaware than Man City were affected by it - Frank Swift used to play for them.)

It was absolutely the right idea not choosing David Beckham. Since the Croatia game, he's only played two friendlies. Players like Gerard have played every week (sometimes, twice a week) since then. Although he kept himself fit, there's no substitute for match fitness other than playing matches. Otherwise, pre-season friendlies should be scrapped.

During the WC qualifiers, I was lucky enough to be able to get VIP treatment to a couple of Scotland games. I swear some people were looking at Saskia and myself oddly for preferring to see the game rather than enjoy the food.

I really am proud of both my team and our rivals. That was so well carried out and observed.

Yeah this is how the BBC put it:

Stunning. A perfectly observed silence, broken only by gun-shots to mark each of those that passed, and any fears about how such a gesture will be received are utterly unfounded. Brilliant.
