MAROON 5 is on top of its game and deliriously happy with how its rock 'n' roll career is going.

And it's only taken 13 years, two albums and one name change to get there.

"We're playing the best we ever have,'' says Jesse Carmichael, keyboardist of the Los Angeles band once known as Kara's Flowers. So Australians can expect the best performances from the band when it tours here next month.

But the band has faced difficulties along the way.

After recording its debut album, Songs About Jane, the touring began to take its toll on then-drummer Ryan Dusick.

"We went through a difficult process of Ryan leaving and Matt (Flynn) replacing him because Matt's a completely different drummer,'' Carmichael says.

But the follow-up album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, shows the band has changed much more than drummers.

"Our sound has changed as our priorities and life have changed,,'' Carmichael says.

The two-time Grammy Award winners, who are bringing support acts OneRepublic, Brandi Carlile and Ry Cuming to Australia, are looking forward to their return.

"Everyone's getting along well and we're all in a really good place,'' Carmichael says.

Maroon 5 will play at Acer Arena, Sydney, on April 4. Bookings: Ticketek.
