I haven't been so nervous watching us since we needed to draw against Dinamo Kiev back in 2000 to go through  Tevez was my man of the match tonight, brilliant team work from him! Patrice was great as always and everything was just written for Scholesy really!

Ronaldo showed a different side to him tonight and shined as part of the team rather than just how could he is personally and I am a Wes Brown critic too but last night despite nearly injuring Van Der Sar TWICE he did his part and was immense in getting us through! To concede no goals against Barcelona over two legs is very difficult and it really showed what we're made of and proved we don't rely on individuals as we're a TEAM of great players unlike this other team in red I want us to play against in the final :kink:

:kink: I agree :P

Teams are in:

Chelsea: Cech Carvalho Terry Cole Essien Ballack Makele Lampard J.Cole Kalou Drogba

Liverpool: Reina Carragher Skrtel Riise Arbeloa Mascherano Alonso Gerrard Kuyt Benayoun Torres

Chelsea have been the better side so far and deserve their one goal lead (even if Kalou was offside :P). This formation that Liverpool play has potential, but they don't have the players to make it work. We need out and out wingers for it to work. Rafa definitely has to make an attacking substitution as Torres looks so isolated up top, possibly bring on Crouch, and then as the game goes on bring on either Pennant or Babel.

Unfortunately for Liverpool now Chelsea are gonna play so deep.

Pretty much spot on.

I should add I'm unsurprised that Chelsea scored an "offside" goal, nor that Drogba got away with a clear studs challenge on Steven Gerrard, 20 minutes after causing Skrtel to go off injured after Drogba (the goalscorer) foot caught Skrtel's knee (but again no foul ).

On the first 45 Minutes evidence Rafa Benitez has done the team talk for Drogba from his performance so far.

However, on the run of play Chelsea deserve to be 2-0 up by now as they have completely outclassed Liverpool in the first 45 mins. Benayoun is not working, so I would like to see Pennant brought on, whilst Steven Gerrard has largely been invisible kept in Makele's pocket.

Still the Italian referee has been superb, shame about the linesman when Kalou broke the offside trap.

because it wasn't a foul

Never thought id say this but....

GET IT, LIVERPOOL! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Is too close to call at the moment, Liverpool were much the stronger team until the last 10 minutes when Chelsea really decided to come into 5th gear.

I guess the question begs is whether Liverpool's legs will be fresher than Chelsea's, as they certainly seemed happy to sit back and let Chelsea come at them in the last 10 minutes or so. I guess we'll soon find out.

Do away goals count in ET too?

Yes, so Liverpool need to score to make it 2-2.

Good pen by Lampard. :nocheer:

I can't believe we won as i thoguht it wiould be other after Torres scored. Now we'll lose to Man U in the final. :(
I'm gutted to the maximum, but we gave Chelsea the match over the two legs. Very disappointing, but i'm extremely proud of Liverpool, you can't fault them as they did what was asked of them and they've nowhere near the team Chelsea have and I thought that showed at times tonight and Riise really was the weak link. Likke I say even though we got beat i'm extremely proud of Liverpool and i'm looking forward to next season now. YNWA.
Chelsea's 12th man = the officials :kink:

I think on the whole the officals had a good game, but Chelsea did get very lucky. Hyypia's tackle was a penalty and what made the ref not give Hyypia a penalty? He was going to give one, but something made him change his mind. Not sure what, but I think he'll have to explain himself. Key event in the game for me was Skrtel going off injured. Hyypia didn't look up to the part and gave away a penalty. Still i'm very proud of Liverpool tonight.

*cough* Kalou offside too, and only 1 minute added on at the end, and blew a whole 2 seconds early. When it took Cech nearly 30 seconds to take a goal kick, and a whole minute for Shevcenko to get on the pitch, plus the Chelsea players hounding the ref at every opportunity to slow the flow of the game down.

The ref bottled the penalty for Liverpool. Flashing across his mind was how can I give a 2nd pen so close to the last one I give.

Liverpool played well in the second half but Avram Grant out maneuvered Rafa Benitez tonight.

I just hope those Chelsea glory hungry supporters (especially that ex Tory minister idiot David Mellor) give the phrase that Avram richly deserved ahead of the fake messiah "the special one" Jose Mourinho.

Irrespective of what happens in the last few weeks of the season Avram Grant is my manager of the year, when you consider the mess/chaos they were in when Mourinho stormed out of the club.

As for next season, I'm pessimistic, with our Yankee owners ruining the club, my mood is not much improved knowing that if D.I.C wrestle control of the club, then they will sack Rafa (favourite for the Barcelona job) & replace him with Jose Mourinho (although he rumoured to have verbally agreed to go to Inter Milan next season), whilst Drogba apparently already telling friends he will be playing for Jose next season.

It is early days but I can see Liverpool failing to make the Top 4 next season with Spurs replacing them if that happens.

I hate to say this but come May 21st I will be supporting the Red Devils, at least their team have class & most of their supporters have intelligence unlike most glory hunting Chelsea fans (i.e. like ex-Watford celeb Chelski fan Tim Lovejoy) who know nothing about football (i.e. that up until last Saturday Grant was a rubbish manager (when his superb record as Israel's National manager beforehand proves otherwise) than Mourinho who spent £483 million in 3 seasons but could not buy a ECL final place.

However, listening to these idiot Liverpool supporters phoning up Radio 5 Live calling for Rafa to be sacked, then they don't remember how Alex Ferguson struggled for years before getting it right. Rafa's record in Europe proves he knows what he is doing but we don't have the squad or cash to compete with the big three.

 I'm listening to 606 now, and  I'll have Benitez at Boro and they can have Southgate. Fans minds are far too narrow sometimes and don't see the bigger picture.

As I said weeks ago, the final is taking place in a stadium renovated with £125 million of Roman Abramovich's money in 2002 to bring it up to top international standards. .... and remember what happened with the Italian Serie A two/three seasons ago.... ;)

Like a British boxer fighting a US World Champion in Las Vegas, I knew we had to thrash Chelski over two legs to beat Chelsea in the tie, as the rub of the green refereeing decisions would go Chelski's way, and indeed that is exactly what happened.

I forgot about that too. I heard the post-match interview with Rafa and he seemed to accept defeat gracefully. I don't think we deserved to get beat over the two legs, but we did. Our squad just can't cope with Chelsea's - they have Ashley Cole and we have John Arne Riise - they have J.Cole and we have Dirk Kuyt; speaks for itself really

You've always got to be optimistic. I don't think Rafa will be sacked, we've a complete pair of idiots running the club at the moment but before next season one of them (me betting is Hicks) will be in complete ownership of the club. We don't have nowhere near the funds as Man Utd and Chelsea do, and we won't do until this new stadium is built. If the players who Liverpool are being linked with come to Anfield then I think we've good foundations for next season (Rodgiruez, Barry, Bentley, Lahm, Mancini, Rivera).

Can't believe the idiots who want Rafa sacked at the moment. :manson: Torres was injured, so that's why he was brought off.

And I don't mind who wins the Champions League final, i'm expecting Chelsea to win it. Just all seems to fit into place. I can see there being a VERY controversial incident though (you heard it here first :P).
