April 10, 200817 yr to be honest there are no real English superstars at the moment. Over hyped with ludicrous amounts of expectations from the media.
April 10, 200817 yr Erm.. Rio Ferdinand? Steven Gerrard? Wayne Rooney? Michael Owen? (getting back to his best) Joe Cole? Those players are the ones who've gotten their clubs to where they are! Problem for England is adapting to play a different role and not having their club players to link up with.
April 11, 200817 yr The problem for England is all our players think they're better than they actually are. We have two decent players in the whole squad, Rooney & Gerrard, and even they are a long way from the best players in the world. Players like Ferdinand, Lampard, Coles's & Owen need to realise that they are average players; semi decent at best!!!
April 11, 200817 yr England have lots of excellent players, but it's the fact that they all can't gel together in the England team that lets us down! Gerrard, Rooney, Ferdinand, J.Cole, Terry etc. are the types of players that would fit straight into any world class club team.

Gerrard, Rooney, Ferdinand, J.Cole, Terry etc. are the types of players that would fit straight into any world class club team. I don't agree. I think they're overrated and overhyped by the British press. In truth, most of the England team wouldn't get into most of the top teams.

I'm sure if you asked Inter Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid they wouldn't say no to any of the players I mentioned. :P

Gerrard may be excellent in 90% of Liverpool's games but the only excellent ENGLAND players we have (as in perform FOR England) are Rooney and Joe Cole.

So that's why in a typical England starting line-up (James, Richards, Terry, Ferdinand, A Cole, Hargreaves, Beckham/Bentley/Barry, Gerrard, Lampard, J Cole & Rooney) eight of them play for teams in the Champions League Semi-Finals, then?

The reason we have three teams in the semi-finals is largely down to the quality of the foreign players in those teams - Fabregas (was the most important player for Arsenal throughout their participation), Ronaldo, Drogba, Torres, Mascherano & Vidic.

Joe Cole is by far and away Chelsea's best player!!! Avram Grant should be sakced by Chelsea for him not being an automatic starter week in, week out. You only have to look at some of the other top European teams and see how many foreign players they've in their team too. Is no better in Italy or Spain with the top teams.

The total number of Italian players in Inter Milan's starting line-up against one of their Liverpool games? NONE! (They had one Italian in the first leg however)
April 11, 200817 yr Exactly! The total number of Italian players in Inter Milan's starting line-up against one of their Liverpool games? NONE! (They had one Italian in the first leg however) who got sent off :heehee: but that is the history of Inter, hence their name Internazionale. If all these players are so world class how come you don't get constant rumours from Europe's biggest clubs sniffing around.

If all these players are so world class how come you don't get constant rumours from Europe's biggest clubs sniffing around. Too expensive, plus I the likes of Rooney, J.Cole etc. are already at some of Europe's biggest clubs so why would they sell their best players to some of the teams that are likely to rivial them for the European title? No logic in it, unless the club gets over an over the odds price.
April 12, 200817 yr you always get Madrid sniffing around Fabegras and Ronaldo. Plus Barcelona kept on chasing Henry until they got him. Shame really his va va voom has been effected since his move :heehee:

If all these players are so world class how come you don't get constant rumours from Europe's biggest clubs sniffing around. Because the Premiership is where it's at now! No English player really wants to leave it, Rooney said he'd certainly never go abroad but we did have Beckham, Owen and Woodgate at Madrid quite recently though! If any of them ever leave it'd be for Spain now considering they are no Spanish players going to Italy.

Another point for the fact that England's players are nowhere near as good as they are made out to be.
April 12, 200817 yr Yep and with the exception of Beckham, the other two weren't exactly hits at Madrid. Another point for the fact that England's players are nowhere near as good as they are made out to be. They can't adapt to the leagues. It's a completely different way of football, barely any English players have ever succeded over there and that's not because they're bad players, it's because they can't adapt to the leagues. I know some foreign players can come over here and play well straight away, but not many. Drogba? Ronaldo? etc. both good players but they weren't exactly world beaters in their first season in England. Owen and Woodgate didn't really have the time to adapt the Spanish league either.

Another point for the fact that England's players are nowhere near as good as they are made out to be. Owen scored 13 goals for Madrid in his one season which isn't bad considering he came off the bench more often than not and Woodgate spent 90% of his time injured! Drogba and Ronaldo both took two seasons before they really took off. As have Adebayor, Flamini and the vast majority of the rest of the Arsenal players. Evra and Vidic are key players for Utd, they were rubbish for the first 6 months! Ballack was c**p last season but looks good this. In the past few years only really Dimitar Berbatov has hit the ground running and continued it. Benni McCarthy was good last season but he hasn't continued it... Torres has done well, yes, but he's not been much use away, he only really plays well at one ground.
