OK thats 15, if not all 15 qualify, then make it a top 10, with the last 5 as spares to make up for the ones that are disqualified. Sorry if its too confusing

Amy Macdonald? Indie? pffffft! KT Tunstall is not alternative or indie in it's wildest sense. MIA on the other hand is definitely alternative and on an indie label.

Meanwhile do not get me started on Ronson the t***.

LOL

ok, il agree Mcdonald and Tunstall arent indie but if Goldfrapp can get in the chart il go as far as saying Ronson can.

If Ronson can then why not have Amy Winehouse as well! Ronson covers Indie tunes and turns into mainstream wine bar fodder!
BTW I am really happy that Foals have knocked Hot Chip off the top! :cheer:
Well we've deicided to open it up to Specialist as well (which includes Duffy, KT Tunstall etc.)... ^_^

For once, Jonathan is correct, the chart now includes Specialist and will be a top 30.

Fair enough but then change the name of the chart as well coz it won't be indie alternative anymore! I hope I'm wrong but I can just see it being dominated by female singer songwriters like Duffy and Adele just like the main multichart.

I hope it doesnt too grebo, but we'll give it a show and if it does we'll sort something out :P

Hey, I was thinking of making my own chart, but I'm really confused over what is indie/alternative/specialist and what isn't. It's really difficult to be sure. I don't plan on charting them, but for example the Spice Girls have writing credits on their songs, but I don't really think they would be Specialist would they? I don't even know what Indie is, so I wont even begin there.

What would really help is if you could list some current/top 75/future releases that are Indie/Alternative/Specialist like Jack did for the R&B chart here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=63873 for people like me who aren't sure on what counts and what doesn't.

Hey Adi, well anything thats rocky/poippy but not definitive to that genre is indie really, like most of the stuff in the current multichart. Alternative is like M.I.A. etc and Speialist is singer/songwriter types. Some examples:

Duffy - Mercy [specialist]

Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor [indie-Pop]

Biffy Clyro - Who's Got A Match? [indie-Rock]

M.I.A. - Paper Planes [Alternative]

etc.

It is quite hard to define tbf, id say its just things that dont fit elsewhere :heehee:

This is so hard, it's like anything that isn't Dance/Pop/Rock/R&B/Soul/Hip-Hop. But sometimes it's hard to tell what isn't any of that, for example what would the Hoosiers be? I would think Rock, but when I compare them to other Rock I change my mind, they aren't Indie because they seem quite commerical, but I wouldn't say they were Pop. See my problem? I'd be doing that for every artist. <_<

The Hoosiers are pop IMO. I find calling them rock or indie is a complete insult. :heehee:

Agreed, if its really that difficult, we'll get rid of Speciaist :heehee:

I think Specialist is one of the easier ones to work out, it's what Indie or Alternative is that's difficult for me. The Specialist forum says this "An area for Singer-Songwriter, Folk, Country, Classical, Easy, World, Reggae, Blues and Heritage acts" so what's the difference between Alternative and Specialist? I mean what is Alternative if it isn't any of those? I don't even know about Indie, it just seems to be music that you listen to because it's cool to like artists that aren't big. I'd find a list of songs helpful because otherwise my chart will probably be, like someone said, a list of female singer-songwriters and I don't want it to be just those.
