People like Madonna & Flo Rida (who release their downloads well early) are the ones killing the physical charts! I hate the idea of releasing the download more than 2 (at most) weeks before their track is released! I dont mind Estelle because shes released physically next week and will probably hold off Madonna for another week!

This is why i dont download... coz its ruining the charts! Yes sales may be higher but thats nothing compared to how it used to be! :(

I think it does because say 5,000 people decided that they wanted to buy a song which is 10 years/months old this week because they heard it on TV. How likely is it that they'd all manage to find a physical copy of it in the shops? Heck, it's hard enough to find CURRENT singles in shops these days. With downloads nearly all of those 5,000 people (not everyone has a computer etc.) can go and buy the song and it will probably re-enter the top 40. If downloads weren't available it would be impossible for that song to reach the top 40.

 

I think download sales counting towards the chart is a great thing, just bad for the physical CD. If it were just physicals making up the chart I'd be surprised if there were enough different singles sold to make up a top 75. :lol:

Exactly. It's a true representations because most songs can be found digitally and so if only physical sales counted to the chart, the most-purchased song - which this week for example would be Estelle - couldn't even chart! How could that be right?! The rules make sense now.

eh... you live in the past? Physicals sell now almost nothing. Technology is developing and people get lazier. This year physical sales do not reflect the most popular songs anymore (not even last year I think). With the downloads you have a closer look what are the most beloved songs.
