Nasty Nick returning to EastEnders

Thu 02 Oct 6:16 PM. By Press Association

EastEnders' Nasty Nick is set to return to Albert Square this Christmas.

Nick Cotton, played by John Altman, will makes his way back to the place he once called home, hoping his old "Ma" Dot will welcome him in the way she always used to.

Nick has been behind bars for the past few years and mystery surrounds what he has been up to, why he is back and whether he has changed his ways.

Altman said: "After an absence of seven years I am thrilled to return to Albert Square, the BBC have always given me great storylines as Nick Cotton and I look forward to seeing if Nick will once again spread fear and loathing throughout the Square!"

Altman appeared in EastEnders' very first episode which transmitted on February 19 1985.

From the outset he caused a scandal by murdering Reg Cox and then went on to kill Eddie Royle. Nick stopped at nothing and nearly succeeded in killing his mother when he tried to poison her.

The last time Nick was living on Albert Square, Dot disowned him when she realised that the death of Nick's son Ashley was his fault.

For the past few years Nick has been living at Her Majesty's Pleasure for drug-related offences.

Diederick Santer, EastEnders executive producer, said: "Nick Cotton is an EastEnders legend. His complex relationship with Dot, his criminal tendencies, and his addiction to heroin, violence, and everything else that's bad have made him one of the show's best-remembered and best-loved villains.

"We're very excited that he - and the talented John Altman who plays him - will be returning to the Square."

hope his character is as strong as it was originally... i found him compelling to watch, but he seems to have been watered down with every visitation. i hope his return isnt as bad as dirty dens was.

im really liking how archie is developing you just know there will be a whopper conclusion to his storyline

EE is great atm, but I have a few issues

I am really really really really getting fed up of seeing Bradley and I just wish the writers would make their minds up and do something interesting with the character I cannot stand his flustered face in every god damn episode, and if i see Max or Jack again, both seemed to have mastered the art of Phil Mitchell style deflating sighing, i will throw my tv out the window, Jo Joyner deserves better storylines instead of this constant rubbish she's had since she started, in my opinion

And I am very annoyed at Billy still moping around, that is getting on my nerves, but I love the Archie/Peggy/Ronnie stroyline, now that will be a climax that will be worth watching, I wonder if this could be one of the Xmas stories for this year???

Overall, I'm enjoying EE but there is alot that could be done to improve it, the acting in the Tony/Whitney/Bianca is very good and very strong

Bradley appears in every episode because the guy who plays him keeps winning 'best actor awards'

look on the front cover of What's On TV, nearly every single week is Bradley & Stacey, or Max and Bradley etc...

it's the same when Sharon was in the soap, every week she was on the front cover of every magazine because she was thought to be the star of the soap at the time

but with Stacey and Bradley split up now they definitely need to do something else with his character soon because he has now become one of the main protagonists of the show

i hate when billy is in downtrowden mood he annoys me,,overall though i am very happy with the show its extremely strong at the momet with many many brilliant charactors

for the first time in many years... eastenders has several interesting storylines going on... its now back on my 'must see' list.

you just KNEW that that silly girl with the weird face was gonna be the adopted kid sam janus gave away. (ok...im no good at names...lol)

Really starting to like EE again now. Please get rid of blooming Danielle, Callum and Archie though. They annoy me so much.
^ Or at least get rid of the "actress" that plays Danielle.
Didn't see that one coming ...

It has now been confirmed that Danielle is Ronnie's daughter!

:o

Well, that was made obvious at the end of Friday's episode. I think it was pretty obvious all along - blonde girl, around the right age to be, with an unknown past shows up - it was only leading to one thing.
