March 24, 200817 yr Truly AWFUL results in this one. The usual over-rated Britney/Xtina pap at the top. And did people REALLY put the Backstreet Boys and S Club 7 in the top 35 but have Lauryn Hill, Baz Luhrmann, Blur, and the New Radicals in the bottom?
March 24, 200817 yr Waiting For Tonight? f***ing hell. It's hardly worth voting in these, the results will always be full of $h!te, overrtated female solo artists no matter whether their song is one of their best, worst, or average. Awful!

I'm gutted that New Radicals didn't make it even to the top 35...that song defined 1999 for me...and its by far the song I hear most now out of the 50 on the shortlist I put it 8th in my list...and I never even liked it that much when it first came out...so the fact that it has grown on me so much 10 years later proves what an enduring classic it is

I'm not sure how old the average BJ member is...I'm 21 almost and I would assume that is a lot higher than average...so a lot of people voting may only have been about 6 or 7 years old in 1999 so Britney/Xtina would have stood out a lot more than Blur and Lauryn Hill to a 7 year old

So yeah, I was all into this Britney/Xtina thing at the time and the only Lauryn Hill song I knew was "Doo Wop (That Thing)" which I voted for in the other game. I wasn't fond of it at the time, but I am now. What I'm saying is our age at the time might not be the only excuse. I mean, I might not have been interested in Lauryn Hill or Blur at the time, but there was nothing stopping me from discovering them as I got older. To this day I only recognise that one song from Lauryn Hill, apart from 'Killing Me Softly' with the Fugees. I know this is close minded but I wouldn't recognise the Blur, Foo Fighters, Baz Luhrmann or Armand Van Helden songs. I just don't think they would be the sort of songs I would be interested in, just as the others would rather scratch their nails down a blackboard than listen to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera or Jennifer Lopez.
March 24, 200817 yr I know this is close minded but I wouldn't recognise the Blur, Foo Fighters, Baz Luhrmann or Armand Van Helden songs. Exactly my point :D These were all really popular at the time especially Baz and Armand so its not that people are voting for Britney/Xtina because they think they are the better songs, moreso because they haven't heard of some of the other songs from the year which don't still get regular airplay in 2008...I haven't heard Blur's Tender on the radio since its time of release... in the same way, if we had a record of 92 game I would probably pick Snap! and Shakespear's Sister over more respected songs which I haven't heard of...
March 26, 200817 yr You have to remember most people were really young when the first songs first came out.
March 27, 200817 yr According to music fans of buzzjack, Eiffell 65 is better than Basement Jaxx. I agree, what is it with people here obsessing over generic rubbishy pop songs by semi-talented female singers? J-Lo, Britney? :puke2: Moloko is a pleasent surprise though! Edited March 27, 200817 yr by ScottyEm
March 27, 200817 yr Author I thought some of you might be interested to compare with the previous year's ROTY Games and see as it helps show from these Top10's how musically BuzzJack has changed.... some might say for the better, others might say for the worse (remember back early in BuzzJack's history Embrace's Natures Law was the BuzzJack Personal Charts #1, can you imagine another indie/alternative/rock track topping the BuzzJack Personal Charts now)....... 2006 ROTY 1999 Top 10 10th Blur - Coffee & TV 137 9th TLC - Unpretty 139 8th Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) 141 7th Armand Van Helden - You Don't Know Me 143 6th New Radicals - You Get What You Give 145 5th Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle 164 4th Britney Spears - Baby One More Time 168 3rd Madonna - Beautiful Stranger 183 2nd Macy Gray I Try 186 1st DJ Jurgen ft. March 27, 200817 yr I loved Embrace's Nature's Law...made No.2 in my chart and I usually can't stand the band... I'm gutted that Alice Deejay and New Radicals have fallen so much out of favour in two years :( Both of those songs are at least 100x better than Britney's You Drive Me Crazy...fair enough Baby One More Time doing well as its a 'classic' pop song but Crazy was like a poor mans version of that song...
March 27, 200817 yr Damn missed this one. Glad Britney won though Edited March 27, 200817 yr by The 411.

You're right, it's changed but completely for the worst. The shallow female pop princess pap has COMPLETELY taken over at the expense of everything else.
