Anyone here know much about this band? A 1970's punk band formed by former Buzzcocks singer Howard Devoto, very underated imo.

Magazine - Shot By Both Sides

This is their most famous song which somehow managed to miss the top 40 in 1978 (just! it entered at #41 apparently)

I loved Shot By Both Sides and the Buzzcocks song "Lipstick" (the B side to "Promises") is the twin sister of the song. They also released a brilliant song in 1981 called "About The Weather". I had the 12" single, unfortunately the single never made the chart.

I love them - check out some of their albums. Although 'Shot By Both Sides' is very Buzzcocks-y Devoto took them in a new direction very quickly.

Pointless indie fact - Blaggers ITA's 'Oxygen' also uses the famous SBBS / Lipstick melody.

magazine is a great band, or at least the first two albums. though, the buzzcocks are definitely better overall. but i mean theyre different styles so its hard to even compare the two.
