Posted March 22, 200817 yr Brits would prefer Beckhams in Downing St Reuters.co.uk Entertainment News 22 March 2008 Britons would rather the Beckhams ran the country than Gordon Brown, according to a new survey. But it's not all bad news for the Prime Minister - he's still a more popular choice than Jade Goody, Amy Winehouse and Kerry Katona. Mr Brown came fourth in a list of the worst people to lead Britain, with 11 per cent of the vote. Those questioned said Jade, with 23 per cent, Amy, with 16 per cent, and Kerry with 14 per cent, would be worse than the PM. But Katie Price and Peter Andre received just nine per cent, and just six per cent of people said David and Victoria Beckham would be worst. The backing for the Beckhams came in a survey which also found Britons are losing their sense of national pride and rejecting traditional pastimes. Two-thirds of 2,122 people questioned in a Britishness survey commissioned by Current TV said that Britain no longer leads by example. More than half of those polled said they didn't think the country is as powerful internationally as it was 50 years ago, and 57 per cent admitted they'd considered moving, or wanted to move, abroad. Traditional pastimes such as going to church or Sunday School, playing board games or eating afternoon tea proved unpopular. Instead, 25 per cent said they'd rather watch the Hollyoaks omnibus on Sundays, 18 per cent preferred playing Nintendo Wii as their entertainment of choice, and more than half said afternoon tea would involve a cup of tea on the sofa while doing a crossword. What does this say for our celebrity obsessed society when the GBP would rather have an overpaid footballer and a girl group member who can barely sing as Prime Minister ahead of any politicians?
March 22, 200817 yr it shows the stupidity of the gbp.... its worrying that nonentities are seen as 'heros' and worrying that people arnt thinking.
March 22, 200817 yr Eugh. The Beckhams bore me. Any "celebrity couple" who are willing to sell out their private lives in front of the camera's or marketing brands are bloody annoying. I find it sad tbh. And to have Victoria & David Beckham as Prime Ministers shows alot about our celeb-obsessed country.
March 23, 200817 yr They could hardly do a worse job than Brown tbh but yes a sad reflection of the country we live in
March 23, 200817 yr God knows what sort of people replied to this survey but it certainly is a sad reflection on life in the UK in 2008
March 23, 200817 yr Half of those who replied have probably never even heard of 10 Downing Street.

Totally agree, why would ANYONE want to see the Beckham's in Parliament? At least nominate with someone with half a brain cell.. [more than Mr Brown? XD]
March 26, 200817 yr What does this say for our celebrity obsessed society when the GBP would rather have an overpaid footballer and a girl group member who can barely sing as Prime Minister ahead of any politicians? Quite depressing actually.... Although I DID once advocate on an American forum for a Michael Moore/Marilyn Manson Presidential ticket... Purely to bait the Bush/Cheney-supporters (and, boy did it work)....  Mind you, Moore and Manson are of considerably greater intellect than the Beckhams....
