Don't turn this into a political war please guys. You are all entitled to your opinions though. Here is the report from ESC Today anyway...

The Governing body of the Eurovision Song Contest, the European Broadcasting Union's Eurovision Song Contest reference group has asked the Irish delegation to alter slightly Dustin's performance lyrics for the upcoming event in Belgrade.

Dustin the Turkey will represent Ireland this year at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade with the song Irelande douze pointe.

The lyrics of the song contains a list of European countries, which includes a name check for Macedonia. However the EBU has declined to confirm that the request had come from Greek broadcaster ERT, who which other websites report; have taken offence at the mentioning of Macedonia, rather than their preferred "Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia" the name under which the country joined the United Nations and which is still used by the EBU, albeit in an abriviated form on Eurovision scoreboards - "FYR Macedonia."

The EBU reference group have requested that the official name of the country "FYR Macedonia" be used rather than just "Macedonia" in the lyrics of the song Irelande douze pointe for all Eurovision Song Contest related performances.

The Irish delegation have agreed to this, however this does not involve changing the recorded version of the song.

The EBU reference group is a group representative of EBU member countries participating in the Eurovision Song contest which liaises directly with the EBU to guide and approve the major elements of the concept, development and preparation of the Eurovision Song Contest.

I think it's a bit silly tbh, and I can't see Dustin saying "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" in his performance. He'll probably just replace it with something else I would've thought.
there was rumour that some wordds would have to be changed so this isnt a surprise but i excepcted them to want more than that changed
Personally I think it's absurd, but apparently Dustin will just say "Lithuania" and not mention Macedonia / FYROM at all.
i think it's silly..!

oh dear...I don't know what to say about that

I wish he wouldn't namecheck any countries...its as cringeworthy as 'London to Berlin all the way from Paris to Tallinn'

Has soon I has heard the song - and the reference to Macedonia - I was wondering how long it would take the Greeks* to complain about it (if they hadn't already). Considering Ireland choose on February 23rd, I'm surprised it took this long.

* - If it was Greece who complained. Which it probably was.

Phew, I'm relieved that the line about Terry Wogan's wig is still there. :D :D That's the most hilarious part of the lyrics. :D

Does he really wear a wig?

Apparently so - he has 3 wigs - one for freshly cut, one for grown out and one for needs a cut

Of course, we won't turn it into a political war. But seriously, I think the Greeks should rename their little province to Our Precious Region of Macedonia and just let the Macedonian country BE! What's next? The U.S. insisting Georgia changes its name to Former Soviet Republic of Georgia? :P
