The Kooks fend off Mariah at top of albums chart

The Kooks look on course to edge out Mariah Carey at the top of the albums charts, with their second album, Konk (Virgin), outselling Carey’s E=MC² (Def Jam) by almost two to one on its first day of sale.

Meanwhile, Elliot Minor’s eponymous debut album (Warner Bros) is set for a top five entry and Sarah Brightman’s new album Symphony (Angel) is on course to enter the top twenty.

On the singles chart, Estelle’s American Boy (Atlantic) looks likely to spend a fifth week at number one, despite competition from Madonna’s 4 Minutes (Warner Bros).

Both Usher’s Love In This Club (LaFace) and the Last Shadow Puppets’ The Age Of The Understatement (Domino) are on course to enter the top 10.

Thanks to Eightiespopkid for the info and Mr Ciccone for top 2 singles sales figures

Your VERY early this morning Martin! :)

Hopefully Madge for number one - Doubt it though and Mimi top three on the albums!

Is mention of American charts (Billboard) considered 'off-topic' ? If not then do you have access to any info supporting a rumour I've just heard that Leona will likely do the double this week, topping Singles and album charts ? Please.

Yes the sun says this is very likely :)

She's extremely likely to do the double.

She's got about a 40 point lead in the Hot 100 based on my early calculations, and the album's a dead cert - with 61% of album sales from across the US in already, here's how its looking:

1 LEONA LEWIS J RECORDS/RMG 150,405 SPIRIT

2 JAMES OTTO WARNER BROS. NASHVILLE 42,060 SUNSET MAN

She's looking at shifting upwards of 200k based on that - potentially as high as 250k :yahoo:

i'm hoping queen madonna either climbs or stays where she is, please don't fall!

I'm predicting Mariah will get to #2 (although im hoping #1) :yahoo: I hope Britney reachs top 10. Her track has really grown on me. The video doesn't seem to have recieved as much airplay as Piece of Me did though, that might affect it's position :(

Estelle to stay at #1 for her final week - it'll be madonna next week (maybe she'll continue the 5 week trend :w00t: )

Edited by Glyn

I think Madonna will be #1 later this week if she isn't today. Estelle is going to be a four week #1 in my opinion.

I hope Mariah can make #1 in the album chart.

I bet Estelle and Madonna are close. :o

It's great that Mariah is #2, I hope she climbs. ^_^

Disappointing position for Britney. Last Shadow Puppets must be doing really well physically.

Ooh wow Goldfrapp is high, I thought it would flop, it hadn't made much of an impact when I last checked iTunes.

Britney's tracklisting is very poor...I would have bought the physical if she had released a remixes cd.

No Kylie in either Top 40. When we get Top 200s we will give you the info.

Britney's single isn't in Woolworths (for the first time in her career). It looks like the album is benefiting rather than the single.

bad for Britney...could be her lowest peaking single ever :o

I wish September and Estelle would swap places and then the top 4 would be perfect

Thanks Spiidey for the figures and thanks Gboy....... if it's in theSun it must be true. :heehee:
