Smashing in at number one in 92, it was NOW 21, featuring the hits of early 92, including CROWDED HOUSE, SHAKESPEARS SISTER et al. RIGHT SAID FRED couldn`t get the overalll number one album, whatever (although one of the singles did rather well, as we will find out shortly) :D SIMPLY RED had the multi seller STARS riding up and down since 1991. MADNESS did well, actually reminding us of an earlier album really (although this one was a greatest hits album). More greatest hits from ZZ TOP, and the only one, who didn`t have a beard, had the surname of Beard! BEAUTIFUL SOUTH got the title of 0898, from those expensive phone numbers that started like that, for dodgy porn numbers, and high costing sport, and news info numbers. JOSEF LOCKE was a very old Irish singer, who returned in 1992. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN had 2 albums in the top 30, the other was LUCKY TOWN at 22, down from 8.

Let`s look at 1992`s singles chart

40 NE LIFT ME UP - HOWARD JONES

The 2nd of 4 weeks, at the top for RIGHT SAID FRED in 92. IRON MAIDEN had their regular smash in to the top 3, and then crash down, the next week. VANESSA WILLIAMS, CURTIS STIGERS, TEN SHARP, ANNIE LENNOX and CHRIS DE BURGH kept Radio 2`s playlist going! Spot the re-make with ZZ TOP singing an ELVIS 1964 hit, MR BEAN sings ALICE COOPER from 1972, MARC ALMOND singing a DAVID MCWILLIAMS flop, from 1967/8, PASADENAS covered BREAD from 1970. Even ROD STEWART was singing ELTON JOHN. CARTER did a take on an old SIMON AND GARFUNKEL title, THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK, became THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW CROSS. Acid House continued with ALTERN 8, PRAGA KHAN, and others. KYLIE scraped the top 10, with the hardly remembered FINER FEELINGS. DEF LEPPARD asked the slightly dodgy LET`S GET ROCKED, including the line "I suppose a rock`s out of the question!" MADNESS re-released HOUSE OF FUN from the GH album, and a much underated singer called TEVIN CAMPBELL released the minor hit, "TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO". Many of those songs can be seen, on YOUTUBE, if not all of `em. No need to listen to Dale Winton`s pretty naff Radio 2 show, what!!!!!! :puke2:

01 03 4 MINUTES - MADONNA AND CO. -

) Denotes position without downloads only

Just like I said last week, it was a foregone conclusion that MADONNA would go to the top. She sells 8,000 more copies, than ESTELLE on download alone. In exactly, the same position, that ESTELLE herself was last weekend. KYLIE could actually swap places, with VALERIE to go back in the 50, with WOW coz, they are so close. Meanwhile outer limits of the top 75 show SCOUTING FOR GIRLS with 3 songs in the top 60. QUEEN are 54 this week. Also in the top 60 are the HOOSIERS, and ADELE`s COLD SHOULDER. In the top 70, lurks more KYLIE, BENS BROTHER, FUNKERMAN, SIMPLE PLAN, and ROBYN with LIL`WAYNE not far behind. SCOOTER lose out, as a bubbler, and biggest loser this week, selling virtually no downloads is JAMIE LIDELL.

Next week, look out for the FEELING, CAHILL, FUNKERMAN, and downloads from WILEY, SHANNON,(SHARON) and JAY SEAN.

Also next Saturday (26th Apr 08) CHARTSHOW TV will be running their own top 40 selling singles, of the week between 3 and 7pm. New, for 2008!

Unfortunately, this week was the last time, that MRIB will be producing Album, and Singles charts. They will no longer be part of MRIB`s portfolio. They will continue to produce Film, and Dvd charts.

What we will do next Friday night is too, replace the MRIB singles/Album charts by Chartshow TV ones. Which will once again, be the fastest chart, on TV.

"No need to listen to Dale Winton`s pretty naff Radio 2 show, what!!!!!!"

How roooood!! Dale's show is great! He's doing 1992 this week too... Is it a coincidence you've done the same year as him for two weeks in a row, or are you bowing down to the great Mr Winton by way of a tribute? :P

Who is Shannon Sharon?

Edgy folk artist, much loved by the great John Peel

EDITS: That'll be Sharon Shannon then!

No, we follow a 5 week cycle of years usually. But honestly Dale`s prog, is a bit of a short change, and misses half the records out. Say have you ever listened too, DAVID JOHNSON on U105? It`s a 4 hour show Sun 2 - 4pm, and plays more records from vintage charts circa 1963 - 89. It is available on the web. I don`t think that Dale is that good really, and the loss of the late great ALAN FREEMAN is not matched by Winton. There are better hosts, believe me, and Dale does indeed need to check his facts, coz sometimes he gets it very wrong. For instance from the 60s - 80s singles were released on Fridays, but he insists that it has always been Mondays. For a national programme, it is very naff in my humble opinion, rather like the top 40 on Radio One, and indeed ILR Hit40uk.

Like the man Mr eightiespopkid says! The song is actually GALWAY GIRL from the Magners Cider advert, featuring Steve Earl.

Totally agree Dave. I noticed that Phillip Swern (the producer of POTP) has recently taken over producing, Brian Matthew`s SOTS programme, that too is not a patch, on what it used to be. They no longer use the BBC charts, on POTP for the 60s, and it makes listening to the original shows, from the 60s a total farce. He tried telling us, the other week that Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich were number one in 1968. If you listen to POTP in 1968, you find it got stuck behind Cinderella Rockefella, for a few weeks, and it didn`t go to the number one, at all.

Thanks for that info

I know Brian, another reason that I don`t listen these days. Bring back Jimmy Savile, ayy! :yahoo: He played records, long forgotten, and used the correct charts, and had decent producers like Ted Beston, Dave Price, Roger Pusey and the late Don George. Radio 2, have a lot to learn, shame on Lesley Douglas.

I listen occasionally, and Dale sometimes even plays incorrect songs :( and there is far too much news, and traffic, which means you lose 5 minutes an hour. When you think you might hear a good song it is missed out. Just like Fearne and Reggie`s radio 1, attempt

It ain`t Dale`s fault for wrong songs though. Being in radio for nearly 40 years, what happens today, is a lot of specialist shows, like Dale`s are what we call "Voiced Tracked". Dale just tapes, the voice links, the music is put in later and in 20 minutes, you have a 2 hour show. That`s another reason it`s naff. Jimmy Savile`s shows, were taped too, but "as live", with the programme recorded with all the music, too. This January you heard shows, that Dale recorded a month, or two, in advance. So, he can`t even be topical.

1992 Shakespear's Sister - Stay, when I first saw the video it freaked me out  spend 7 weeks at #1 I think, one of my favourite tracks of the decade, I must hunt out the album some time, some great traks on it, have not played in ages.

Ben's Brother track came out of nowhere, I must search that one out.

That`s interesting. I thought it strange, when Dale announced a Long John Baldry song, and then played a different one! :) Were Alan`s shows on Radio 2, done the same?

All Alan`s shows on 2 were. When he did Radio one in the late 80s/early 90s, some were recorded, some live.

Absolutely Martin, and one of my future top ten predictions. You heard it here first! :D

Yep, I'm aware of all that too! I get really frustrate dwith the stuff that's wrong and missed out etc., but it's the highlight of my radio week! I don't get a lot of chances to listen to the radio, but the missus and kids now appreciate that Sunday afternoons mean Pick Of The Pops followed by the Top 40, so it's nice to wallow in a bit of nostalgia for a couple of hours once a week. I just enjoy the "counting down the chart" factor whilst driving around the countryside with the family! (Sad, I know!)

Does anyone else listen to From The Bottom To The Top on Gold?

By the way, all the 60s charts I've heard on POTP (and I've only missed one show since the new series started in 2005) have matched my Guinness Top 40 Charts book...

Can't understand to this day why Stay was No.1 for 7 weeks. It's not that good.

By the way, all the 60s charts I've heard on POTP (and I've only missed one show since the new series started in 2005) have matched my Guinness Top 40 Charts book...

The Guiness book is not the Chart that counted in the 60s. Record Retailer had the smallest panel of sales (it didn`t include EPs on it`s singles chart either. Pick of the Pops, used it`s own charts 57 - 69. The BBC, must have double standards, and are lazy, because actually the only research, they do, is dig out the Guiness book of Top 40 charts, when they could actually use their own archives, for the top 75, in later years 1978 - present. That`s what the people are talking about. From The Bottom To The Top, on Gold is slightly better, but is recorded in the same way, as POTP, and errors, also occur.

Three other Vintage chart shows i.e. DAVID JOHNSON U105Belfast 2-4pm Sundays (is available on the Internet stream) features 2 charts each week is not bad, not brill.

KCFM featureS THE UK TOP 20 REWIND Sundays at 5pm with SEAN TILLEY and a guest host from the Radio one days, it is also broadcasted on the internet, and also broadcasted on OASISFM for TENERIFE also on the net (Saturdays/Sundays 6am)! This one is slightly better.

Across the South of England, on Radio Kent/Berkshire, Dave Cash plays bits of old charts, on Saturday nights (6-8pm), again not brill.

80s fans can hear an 80s show, on REAL RADIO (on both the net, and Sky digital channel 0146) on Friday Nights 8pm-12am. But it doesn`t feature charts.

Edited by davetaylor

From The Bottom Of The Top is usually an entertaining listen, but sometimes the research is poor, the guests don't participate enough and the records are often played in the wrong order, introduced or back-announced incorrectly or not at all! A couple of weeks ago, the "see you next week - thanks to my guest etc" was played in the middle of the show!

Every week, they've adhered to the Guinness charts apart from a couple of weeks ago. The 1988 chart seemed to be completely made up! (I'm sure it wasn't even the Network Chart...!) Rick Astley was the guest. At the beginning, Kid Jensen announced "Together Forever" as a #1 (which raised my eyebrows initially) but halfway through the show he conceded it was actually a #2. For a pre-recorded programme this kind of mess is inexcusable!

But at least they feature the whole Top 20 on these shows.

The chart that they counted down appeared to be the official one (with Rick Astley in his first week at #2) - or at least it was when I listened to the repeat on the Tuesday evening.
