How obvious are they trying to make it that their album is pretty poor?

I don't think the album is poor, I think it's pretty good. But I think that there's nothing on their that will do any well apart from the singles the've gone for. I think that 'Kill The Director' is the best song on there, so not a bad idea re-releasing it imo.
the shouldnt re-release at all, i think re-releasing is stupid, Kill The Director is there best song by far though but i dont feel that it needs re-releasing.
Kill The Director is by FAR my favourite track from them, so it's a good single choice, but they've gone very Editors-esque with re-releases. :manson: Is all a bit stupid. They should have released My First Wedding!

Unbelievable! It's already been a hit for f***'s sake. I can understand to a point releasing early singles again, but that's just ridiculous.

Will it come with a 'the theme to BBC's Football Focus' sticker on it? You bet it will.

I see their label's website is up to date claiming that they're about to release their second single 'Let's Dance to Joy Division' in October. Maybe it they weren't so busy trying to milk every penny out of their releases they could update their public-facing site and let it happen naturally?

TBH, it seems stupid to re-release another track when the recent one only just crept into the chart at 40, seems a bit daft if they were to for another reissue

It's all the same with these 'indie' (yet not independent at all) branches of the majors - B-Unique, 679, 14th Floor...they're all at it. I think this coincides with the album being in various sales so the single's out purely to boost the chart position of the album.

Worked for Editors - by re-releasing everything they'd ever done four times they eventually got their debut album to number one in the January sales period.

Good economics, but it's hardly f***ing rock n roll now is it?

But they do it once one of their songs becomes sucsessful and the public know who they are and so they release their 'better' songs again
Yup, that's why Arctic Monkeys re-released 'Fake Tales of San Francisco' and Franz Ferdinand re-released 'Darts of Pleasure' isn't it? Don't be silly...it was already a hit and it's 100% about cashing in. Presumably they won't need to shell out on a new video for this either, therefore more profit.

Re-releasing the same songs over and over is awful and just shows that you/your record company have little faith in other songs. The Kooks managed to release six singles without releasing anything twice. Why couldn't Editors have done that? It's not as if there weren't any other potential sinlgles on Te Back Room; Lights, Fingers..., Fall - all brillint songs.

its goood that its more a uk site as i guess this criticism wouldnt work in the states where Arctic Monkeys go thru a warner owned distribution arm and Franz Ferdinand are on Epic

isnt all this indie pretentiousness bollocks when it comes to labels

"Indie" is becoming the new Phil Collins......

Continual re-releases = New money for old rope.... As artistically bankrupt and worthless as continually plundering your back-catalogue and releasing more bloody compilations than actual original albums......

did anyone read the article about this last year by i think Andrew Collins in the Word Magazine? It was about re-issuing Editors singles over and over again - which was compared to Prefab Sprout 20 - 25 years before that - so Kitchenware Records up to their old tricks again

and as for compilations - they do have positive points - after reading about Microdisney and the fatima mansions a compilation of his/their stuff sounds like something intersting to get - a good introduction

I'm betting it's one compilation album per band though.... Not about 20..... A compilation album is a good idea when one is talking about assessing body of work - I would say that one "Best of" per 5 albums is fair, or a compilation album for a now-defunct act where it can be difficult to impossible to get hold of deleted albums (not everyone's gonna pay 50 quid for summat auctioned on E-bay..). The likes of Phil Collins just take the bloody p*** though.....

But apart from the middle one they were pretty good :D

they were just trying to make a pretty pattern

the problem with the automatic is the singles were proper annoying (espcially Monster) but then the album was amaing!!!!!!!! and thats why i love them, although listening back to Recover and Raoul there not that bad songs they were just overplayed. They are really good live aswell.
