SUGABABES have made a plea for the return of Saturday morning kids’ telly and pop band domination.

I caught up with the girls yesterday when they launched the BT Isle Of Wight Festival.

After they performed on a boat on the Thames, I sat down with Keisha Buchanan, 23, Heidi Range, 24, and Amelle Berrabah, 24, for a chat on dry land, and they revealed they were looking forward to watching the Sex Pistols at the festival.

Excited Heidi gushed: “We’re really excited about playing the Isle of Wight. I remember being really scared when we first did a festival as people had opinions about it.

“Hopefully this will be the first one we can stay over at. I want to see the Sex Pistols, who are on the main stage after we finish in the tent. I’ve got a new pair of silver glitter wellies that I’m looking forward to wearing.”

The About You Now ladies will condense their current show but add a twist to keep it fresh.

Heidi added: “We had some dancers for the tour so I think were going to bring them to the festival.

Rock

“We did a corporate gig the other day and the crowd were about the same age as festival-goers and they loved our cover of Don’t Let Go by En Vogue, so we’ll do that and maybe throw a few samples in.”

Amelle said: “People of all ages go to festivals so it’s important not to just have R&B or rock alone.”

Saying that, the Babes want some new pop companions to hit the road with.

Keisha said: “What I really want is to see more pop bands. I want it to go back to the days of Smash Hits, when we’d tour with Blazin’ Squad and Girls Aloud and have a blast.

“Even the Saturday shows where we dressed up and got gunked don’t exist.

“I know I’m sounding like a granny but kids today are growing up way too fast because they don’t have those things to keep them young any more.”

Hear hear.
