Posted May 1, 200817 yr In one of the tightest championship seasons for along time, and only 2 things have been sorted and that is Colchester and Scunthorpe being relegated after two and just one season respectivly. On Sunday three teams could still be automaticaly promoted (West Brom, Stoke and Hull). With those three and Bristol city gaurnted a playoff place at least. Watford, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton, Ipswich and Sheffield United are all fighting for the last two playoff places. So who does everyone think will be automaticaly promoted and who will end up with a playoff place, who is going to miss out. At the other end of the table, another tight battle. This time it is not to join Colchester and Scunthorpe in league 1 next season. Blackpool (53), Coventry (53), Sheffield Wednesday (52), Leicester (51) and Southampton (51) could all still be relegated. Southhampton are currently ocupy the third relegation place on goal diffrence, which is significantly worse than the other four teams who could be relegated. So will last years playoff semi final losers be starting next season in league 1? Sunday, 04 May 2008 Blackpool v Watford, 14:00 Bristol City v Preston, 14:00 Cardiff v Barnsley, 14:00 Charlton v Coventry, 14:00 Crystal Palace v Burnley, 14:00 Ipswich v Hull, 14:00 QPR v West Brom, 14:00 Scunthorpe v Colchester, 14:00 Sheff Wed v Norwich, 14:00 Southampton v Sheff Utd, 14:00 Stoke v Leicester, 14:00 Wolverhampton v Plymouth, 14:00 So whats going to happen?
May 1, 200817 yr Me hoping QPR beat West Brom, and for Stoke to lift the title. If West Brom are supposedly the best team outside the Premier League then how come they haven't sewn it up by now. (If you can't guess I'm not a huge fan of West Brom )
May 1, 200817 yr Err I think Stoke and West Bron will go up automaticaly, Stoke will draw with Leicester and even though Hull will win away against Ipswich they wont go up. In the playoffs Hull and I'll say Crystal Palace will make the playoff final with Crystal Palace. As much as I'd LOVE to see Hull get promoted I don't think they will. West Brom should stay up next year but I can see Stoke and whatever other team going straight back down again. And then I think Saints will beat Sheff United and Leicester will go down.
May 1, 200817 yr Me hoping QPR beat West Brom, and for Stoke to lift the title. If West Brom are supposedly the best team outside the Premier League then how come they haven't sewn it up by now. (If you can't guess I'm not a huge fan of West Brom ) They're by FAR the best footballing side outside the Prem, they're a joy to watch. The only reason they haven't walkd it is because their defence is shaky. Sort out that and survival should be well within their grasp. By far the most equipped team. Anyone else will pretty much definitely go down, a couple will probably be lucky to get 18 points... WBA, Stoke and Palace up, Saints down.
May 1, 200817 yr Stoke are local to me, but i actually dont want them to come up. Im a crewie all the way LOL But Stoke do have the stadium to be in the premiership and i guess good for them. I really want Hull to come up LOL but automatic slots are going to West Brom & Stoke -_-
May 1, 200817 yr WBA and Stoke will go up automatically and I expect Crystal Palace to go up through the play-offs, although Watford might pull a cat out the bag and suprise everyone. Leicester to go down too...
May 1, 200817 yr WBA, Stoke and Palace up, Southampton down I can see Molineux from my window but I don't want Wolves to go up as I'm leaving at the end of next month
May 2, 200817 yr Bit of a shame for Hull, they got right into it then stumbled right at the end. I would have favoured them over Stoke if the gap was anything lower than 3 points, but i think the 3 point gap is enough for Stoke to go up. As for West Brom, who knows? I personally think they'll struggle and will probably go back down, because it's all very well playing great football but there's no way they can just bring that into the Premiership and do the business, i wouldn't be surprised if they end next season behind 1 of the teams who come up with them.
May 3, 200817 yr WBA and Stoke promoted automatically. Either Palace or Watford up through the play-offs. Leicester to go down.
May 4, 200817 yr Current HT Scores: Blackpool 1-0 Watford Bristol City 2-0 Preston Cardiff 1-0 Barnsley Charlton 2-1 Coventry Crystal Palace 3-0 Burnley Ipswich 0-0 Hull QPR 0-0 West Brom Scunthorpe 1-1 Colchester Sheff Wed 1-1 Norwich Southampton 1-1 Sheff Utd Stoke 0-0 Leicester Wolves 0-0 Plymouth So.. as it stands: Promoted: West Brom, Stoke Play-offs: Hull, Bristol City, Crystal Palace, Watford Relegated: Southampton, Scunthorpe, Colchester
May 4, 200817 yr Leicester relegated :o And Wolves miss out on the playoffs by one goal in goal difference  Serves them right for being sold out when I tried to get tickets on Friday :P
May 4, 200817 yr Some idiotic Stoke fans ruined the celebrations by invading the pitch before the game finished -_- Great for Stoke though :cheer: Sadly can't see them doing that well, maybe a few points more than Derby.
May 4, 200817 yr WBA and Stoke promoted automatically. Either Palace or Watford up through the play-offs. Leicester to go down. Three from four up to now AIN'T BAD GOING. Gotta feel sorry for Leicester though, seeing all the celebrations for promotion just as they go down. Nastyy. Either way none of this bodes well for next seasons Prem. The total of points that WBA finished up with is the lowest winning total since the 3 points for a win rule was introduced in the 80s. Hope Palace go up through the play-offs now and have a decent crack at staying up next year. Hopefully Warnock can guide them to success like he so nearly did with Sheffield United last time.
May 4, 200817 yr I hope Bristol City go up, just for comedy value. :heehee: Stoke will do marginally better than Derby I would've thought... maybe around 25 points, but I can see all three promotees going straight back down next year, regardless of who joins WBA and Stoke.
May 5, 200817 yr Some idiotic Stoke fans ruined the celebrations by invading the pitch before the game finished -_- Great for Stoke though :cheer: Sadly can't see them doing that well, maybe a few points more than Derby. well we are hooligans round here :P woop go Stoke :cheer:
May 6, 200817 yr I think Stoke will do alright next season, better than Derby at least as it's already been stated. They do need to spend about £30 million at least though, to have any chance of staying up. West Brom will do alright next season, i'd be suprised if they went down as they've a lot of players with Premier League experience and they're a decent side, will be interesting to see whether Kevin Phillips can be as semi-prolific as he was in the Championship this season(although I highly doubt it). You've got to fear for the side coming up through the play-offs however...
May 6, 200817 yr I think Palace would give it a good shot. As much of a c*nt he may be Neil Warnock is a decent manager and almost kept Sheff Utd up last season and that wasn't exactly the greatest of squads...
