Do you think Jamelia has a chance at making a comeback? Yes? No? Maybe? Give reasons, folk.

After disappointing sales of her last album, 'Walk With Me', UK R&B superstar Jamelia, 27, will have to prove yet again that she is worthy of being in the music industry.

Although the album was critically praised and arguably her best work to date; something, somewhere along the line, went wrong. After the lady herself made it quite clear in one of her Podcasts on her unofficial website, Parlophone (her previous record label) were not supporting & promoting the album like a record label should have. Consequently, Jamelia soon 'got up & got out' and left Parlophone of 10 years.

As of now, Jamelia is working very hard on her forth project and promises fans that they will get "the real Jamelia". While Parlophone restricted her use of top notch producers (there were strong rumours that Jamelia would be working with Rodney Jerkins & Missy Elliott for 'Walk With Me'), Jamelia now has the freedom to work with whoever she wishes and has already recorded songs with producers Shea Taylor (Rihanna, Beyoncé, Janet Jackson) and Scyience (John Legend, Mary J Blige, Jay Z). The star has also expressed on a number of occasions that she would "love" to work with John Legend & Timbaland and is keen to start producing her own music, also.

Shortly after the departure from Parlophone, Jamelia received various offers from many record labels - which she all turned down as "they weren't for me", she states. However, early this year Jamelia expressed excitement in another one of her Podcasts when she stated that she was in talks with a label that she felt catered to her & her music best. While there has been no official announcement, it is safe to assume Jamelia does have a record label.

So, back to the question at hand...Do you think Jamelia has what it takes to make a successful comeback?

I do. I think because she now has more creative control and freedom, she'll deliver another great album. Remember, the problem with the 'Walk With Me' era wasn't Jamelia or her music (as mentioned, critics loved the album and so did most of the people who bought/listened to it), it was Parlophone. She has since eliminated that problem and (hopefully) found another team of people that will support & promote an artist the way they should do. It also sounds like she's going to be calling all bets off and bring out the big guns...So I think if her material is hot, her comeback is made at the exact right time and her label support & promote her, she has every chance of making a successful comeback. People are still interested in her & what she has to offer.

She's been given the stage, now all she has to do is go up there & do her thing.

hmm, im not sure. If she realeseas a large commercial hit like Superstar then that will get people interested in her again and then she can realese all this material, however i dont think she will do that. Saying that i think that if she has a good 1st single then the project will have some sucsess. It honestly could go either way i think.

That's interesting.

A lot of the people say "Beware Of The Dog" should have been the lead single for 'Walk With Me'. That song was getting a lot of buzz by music critics, describing it as one of the best songs in recent years & in her career, even before "Something About You" and the album were released.

She does have what it takes to make a comeback. However, from the first post, it doesn't sound like she is going into that commerical direction.

I'm sure SAY and BOTD were everywhere though when they were out and they scraped Top 10  So I fail to see how it was anything to do with promotion, unless she didn't do performances and the like but I don't remember.

Personally I think it's likely she could have a successful comeback. All she needs is a good, different song to her others which becomes a hit, and the rest will follow.

Yes, she did a lot of TV promotion for "Something About You" but there was no mention of her album whatsoever, which dropped a week afterwards. That was the problem. They needed to get her talking more about the album, how it will interest old fans and new, the music direction she took for this project, etc & its release date in her interviews. I remember watching a lot of her interviews and most of the time, the album went unspoken. It was all about "Something About You" and who the song was about, etc. The only promotion the album really got was from critics and a few promotional posters here & there. There was also that T4 special too, but again, there was no mention of the release date or anything. It was really just about how she grew as an artist from 'Thank You' to 'Walk With Me'.

There was a lot of promotion for "Beware Of The Dog" also & that was when she was began talking about the album more, but by that time it was too late because the album was already out.

There were plans to re-release 'Walk With Me', but it obviously got scrapped.

Fans were begging for "La La Love" to be the next single, following "Beware Of The Dog", but Parlophone ignored that. Jamelia also expressed on her forum (and later in her Podcast) that she didn't want "No More" released at all.

the thing is we know jamelia has the potentail to have hit singles, parlophone screwed up and why i dont know as thank you era was so successfull so why they put effort into walk with me i dont know,

i think jamelia can can do well all over afgain,if she is promoted properly and the right singles released she can do well

That's the right way to think, Danny.

Something About You was the perfect lead single, Beware Of The Dog was the perfect follow-up; I just think the timing might have been wrong. I can't actually pin point what went wrong with the project (other than the dreadful third single choice).

Anyhow that article is really interesting, especially the bit about assuming she's signed a deal...

It's not an article Jark - I wrote it, lol. I posted it on other forums though, so I wanted to include as much as possible but keep it short at the same time.

And yeah - it's just assumptions at this stage, but she was on about finally finding a label she thinks would be right for her and said they're pretty interested in her, so...

I hope she comes online with some news, soon. I can't stand it.

If you're talking about interviews alone, they can't really decide which questions are asked and which are edited into TV shows. They can only specify which questions should not be asked.

I have all of her singles so I want her to do really well next time! ^_^

I understand that, but when an artist comes back out a few years from having an extremley successful album, etc they usually slip the album in their in some kind of way (how the artist has grown, what's different from the last album, etc). But it wasn't just interviews - there wasn't a lot of TV promo for it at all.

Jark made a good point about the timing of the comeback, too. I agree with him on that one. I think if they had released the comeback single in the start of the new year rather than toward the end of it, it'd have maybe seen a different outcome. I also think "Beware Of The Dog" should have led the album though. That's where Jark & I disagree. There was a lot of hype surrounding that one song even before the album + "Something About You" came out.

Slick...Are you Andre? Where did you get that Leona Lewis font from?

I do agree that timing is vital tbh, it can be the difference between a mega hit + a low-selling album, vice versa, neither or both

I am indeed Andre :P If you mean the font in my sig (I assume you do?) I have no idea, Russ made it.

Didn't you have Leona in your siggy a minute ago, lol?

I'm not sure tbh I thought Something About You was a perfect late summer song, suited really well. Its just really confusing, its a great song, had great airplay etc I'm guessing it could be the bad press taking over here? Beware Of The Dog summer hit or winter hit I have no idea I thought the timing was alright tbh, maybe if she had a killer ballad for december she may have gained some more success but if she did start off at the start of the year it might have been better thinking about it.

1st Single May - Beware Of The Dog

2nd Single August/September - Something About You

3rd Single November/December - La La Love

4th Single April - Know My Name/Hustle

I'm still clueless to why it didn't do well the era tbh lol.

i'm completly baffled why walk wiht me did not sell well. the first two singles were fab and so was the album

it was my first jamelia album

I have to say that there's no way anything other than Something About You should have led...a song like Beware Of The Dog getting hype is great, and releasing it second to secure strong album sales was the sensible thing. I'd have done this:

1. Something About You [Oct 06]

2. Beware Of The Dog [Jan 07]

*Album release - Feb 07*

3. Hustle [April 07]

4. Know My Name [July 07]

I'm a bit undecided about whether I'd have gone with Hustle or Do Me Right third, actually, but BOTD was a club banger so Hustle with it's slightly more relaxed pace would probably have been a better follow-up.

No way should No More have even been considered for release. It's a strong song but it wouldn't hold any appeal to the youth market and the sample was too strong coming straight after BOTD which itself sampled Depeche Mode heavily.

Yeah, I didn't think "No More" should have been released either. I thought it was a nice album track. Jamelia was angry about the forced release, too.

I still love the song, though...and the video concept was pretty nice.
