I think I should clear this up - damned tabloids! :heehee:

There will be at the very least 10 automatic qualifiers from last month's top 10, and we're definitely having 26 songs in the final - there would be massive complaints if more songs prequalified than could do so in the final, especially with all of the returning countries! We'll likely have 16 qualifiers from a semi of (hopefully less than) 30 entries at the most ^_^

But that will make the semi-final huge  which is why i proposed more countries automatically qualify - just to make life easier for Adi_Gallia

Well I was thinking of having 13 pre-qualify and the other 13 going through the semi-final. But the amount of entries so far might mean only 10 should pre-qualify. The less countries that pre-qualify, the stronger the songs in the final. I'm not sure what to do to be honest.
A split of 13:13 seems fairer - that way the semi will be around 25-27 songs, the same size as the final. It just seems strange making the semi-final so large when it usually gets fewer voters and is actually less important than the final
and two who have shown interest but are yet to submit song (Triodopolis and FSR Farahtyn).

Also United States Of Jack chose a song but it had been used before so I haven't added them to the first post. I'll send Jack a PM in case he didn't realise Tyron told him.

I changed my mind :kink: I want to participate in the SF! :o

:D edit: if we participate in the SF we have more chances of winning :o (see ESC 2006, 2007, 2008)

30 isn't that large, seeing as we had 29 for the final last time around - if anything it's just as important as the final as it's the only fully meritocratic part of the process, as the final already has songs in there just on the basis of success in the previous competition. We've done semi-finals maybe three times now, and obviously there are less voters as it isn't compulsory for finalists to vote, but pretty much everybody votes in them - I don't think it really makes much of a difference to the results overall as only about 4 countries at the most usually don't vote in the semi, so it isn't too bad. 3 songs isn't much of a difference for a semi, and would be far more worth it to have 3 songs that got in there on strength rather than previous success - I would normally agree that 13:13 would be fairer, but given the amount of returning countries I think it would be far more sensible to have more qualifiers than pre-qualifiers, especially as we're in no great hurry - there are at least 4 days to vote for the semi!

Not quite, we may be having final song previews in the final too :kink:

There is, of course, the case for having 2 semi-finals....now hear me out!

If only Quotosibb qualified for the final, and we had two semis with 18-20 in each of them....they could happen at the same time, so extra time would not need to be created to slot them in, and only the countries in those semis would need to vote in them.

It would mean with 12 qualifiers from each, it increases a songs chances of qualifying, ensures a higher quality final, as everybody has earned their place there, and voters would not have an endless pile of songs to work their way through.

Just an idea....but seems like it could be done....

EDIT: Also, if new and returning countries were split evenly between each semi, it could make for a more varied final.

In which case I also rest my case and accept defeat on this one -_- for shaw it's not a huge difference and hey! it'll mean people hear Sophie's song an extra time which may help her if she makes it into the final. :cheer:

It sounds tempting, but I can't help but think that things such as recaps etc. would take quite some time for two semi-finals...and would Quotosibb vote in both or something? :o

Would be difficult but what a fantastic idea :cheer:

Once again thinking of Adi_Gallia making three recap videos seems a bit unfair

I suppose Quotosibb would vote in both yes....could be a perk of being a winner along with automatic qualification I suppose.

And yes the only problem would mean more work for Adi_gallia, unless of course another person was willing to do a recap video for one of the semis (obviously the one that they aren't in to make it fairer).

It sounds tempting, but I can't help but think that things such as recaps etc. would take quite some time for two semi-finals...and would Quotosibb vote in both or something? :o

Surely making two shorter recaps will take about the same time as one long recap. I suppose it would mean 9 extra songs in the recaps for the semi-finals but it shouldn't be too bad.

I think I would vote in both semi-finals, but if an even number of countries sign up (meaning there'd be an odd number to split into two) then the top 2 from the last contest can automatically qualify and I will vote in one semi-final and Ashton will vote in the the other. Personally I quite like the idea of having two semi-finals but I'm not sure if the countries that finished 3-10 (and in the case that only I prequalify, 2-10) will feel cheated because top 10 usually means you automatically get through.

How would you decide which songs go into each group - surely one group shall end up being stronger then the other?

All sounds very good.

And as for positions 2-10 or 3-10 whichever it may be, it has never been officially decided who does and doesn't prequalify, so the argument would be that nobody's place in the final has ever been "safe" as such.

Random draw I guess.

That's the luck of the draw.

but that would surely mean the whole point of having two semis - so that only the best songs make it through to the final - is defeated, if all the 'favorites are in one group and some get eliminated

Also in the real ESC, only the winner (And the Big4 (hopefully not for much longer)) Prequalify...so it would be more realistic IYKWIM...

And since we don't have a Big 4...everyone except for the previous winner should have to qualify for their place...well that's what will probably happen when i (eventually) win...
