I thought it was friggin' brilliant!! I heart Charlotte so much!

Although

I well didn't want her to marry Big. Ever. Aidan all the way methinks.

I really want to see this but don't exactly fancy SUGGESTING it to my friends.

DAN GRAB YOUR SHOES WE'RE GOING TO THE CINEMA

Speaking as someone who used to be a fan of the show (more the early series' than the later ones I must stress....), I can honestly say that this film was absolute rubbish!!!! Tediously overlong (two and a half friggin' HOURS, come on FFS, it has a "plot" which could easily have been dispensed with on one of the half-hour episodes...), and it doesn't really add anything to the show or the characters either; I honestly just dont get what the necessity there was to make a film anyway, let alone one which seems to last a sodding week, why cant they just leave well enough alone..? The show ended, that's it... Honestly, I can see more sense in, say, a two-hour+ X-Files or Buffy film to tie up the (vast) loose ends of thoseshows, but SATC wasn't really a prog which left me thinking "oh, this really needs a two and a half hour film to sort things out".....

Okay, I probably true that wouldn't have hated this film so much if it had come in at a more economical 90-odd minutes (about right for a Comedy IMO..) and with a far tighter script, but seeing as how the producers saw fit to inflict such a gross, bloated self-indulgence, I'm afraid to say that as a cinema-goer, I'm almost offended....

I saw it today, and I enjoyed it. I am a long standing fan of the show, and despite a think plot it was an enjoyable watch.
despite a thin plot it was an enjoyable watch.

Did it really have to last two and a half hours though...? I mean, honestly, being totally objective..... You've admitted the thin-ness of the plot, so, is 145 minutes of anyone's life really justified...? I think not...... There's barely enough plot-meat here for a two-episode story....

If it had been 90 minutes, I would've said it passed muster at around a 6/10, as it is, I give it 3/10. In my mind, there is NO excuse for padding out such a thin plot as this to this extreme level.... It is superficial at best, if I'm gonna spend 145 minutes watching a film, it should have real depth in its themes, its imagery, its subtexts to justify its length.... "Apocalypse Now" springs to mind, as does "Mulholland Drive"..... Long films, with DEPTH, which NEED to be long, not glossy, superficial trash which should be dispensed with in 90 minutes....

well i'm not gonna bother sit thru two and a half hours of this when i havent watched the series - tho yeah what is it with a lot of studios these days and their overly long blockbusters and chick flicks - is there a paranoia that they are not giving good value for money with a film that is lasting 90 mins so they have to stick in another 30 - 45 minutes of stuff in as well??

and another problem is that with long film - that means they cant get as many showings per auditorium so they take up about 3 different ones - so at a multiplex thats supposed to show 11 different films you get 4!!!

I wasn't that bothered about the length really - I wasn't expecting the film to be rocket science, and it wasn't. I went to enjoy myself watching a film of a great TV series, and thats what I came away with.

They think just because Peter Jackson makes huge blockbusters that last three hours, then they ALL have to do it, monkey see, monkey do innit.... Difference is, a Peter Jackson 3 hour+ blockbuster is actually WORTH WATCHING, and not boring, tedious, superficial guff like SATC.....

And, by the way, Alex, you'd have no chance with this if you haven't seen the series, dont even bother.... The film assumes that everybody's seen the series about twenty sodding times...... -_-

yeah i thought as much it would be like that

In fairness, chances are most people who see it probably have. It's unlikely many people will go and see a film which has been so obviously marketed towards the 'obsessive fan-ness' of avid SATC watchers.

I'd agree the plot was stretched out, but personally I still found it enjoyable, if a little long. I'd rather it was pulled out that all rushed together (I'm sure with more care, it could have been constructed so that it finished naturally, but it's also possible they'd have worked to a '2 hour maximum length' and it'd have been a disaster), as I've have been so disappointed if it had all just had the sense of being thrown together. At least I've left with the impression that it had a lot of thought put into making it as enjoyable as possible for SATC fans.

Saw the film this afternoon, it was brilliant :D. Laughed, cried and everything in between. There shoulda been more scenes with Harry though, I love him!

xXx

Personally Andrew, I think you're being far too generous.... Like I say, I quite enjoyed the series in the early days (and yeah, I did keep up with it even though I enjoyed the show less and less...), but frankly half an hour every week is all that I really wanted to spend time on these characters, this film has certainly taught me that if nothing else.... They seriously outstay their welcome after about the first hour or so of this film for me.... -_-

This is clearly two episodes of actual story stretched out into two and a half hours of film.... It just doesn't work.... 90 mins should have been the limit for this, and with a bit of judicious editing at the script stage (with a professional script doctor to tighten things up), it certainly could have been possible, and a far more economical and enjoyable film would have come out of it. Frankly, I think the bloke just masturbated all over this and thought "will this do...?"....

One would think as a fan of the show, that watching a dull, tedious, over-long w/ankfest of a film would insult you tbh.....

If you look at the film's IMDb rating, it's VERY poor indeed - around 4.5/10.... The most vicious commentary/reviews coming from fans of the show..... The series, on the other hand, has an IMDb average of around 7.5.... Fans of the show are NOT liking this film very much, it's pretty clear.....

Compare it to these two other film spin-offs from shows -

"X-Files: Fight The Future" - IMDb rating - 7/10

"Serenity" (Firefly) - IMDb rating 8/10

Fans of these shows clearly enjoyed the films that came out of them, a marked contrast to clearly must be the majority of SATC fans which gave the film such a low rating.....
