The pair will be joined by some of the best young athletes and performers from the UK, along with new London Mayor Boris Johnson and Premier Gordon Brown at the glittering three-hour ceremony on August 24. May 26, 200817 yr Author I doubt she'll do BL, it's not really appropriate. Celine Dion opened the Olympics a while back and she got a song especially written for her.
August 14, 200816 yr Author Wow, she is duetting with Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. :o David Beckham, Leona Lewis and Boris Johnson in Beijing Olympic handover to London 2012 Footballer David Beckham is to be the star of the Olympics closing ceremony, arriving on a red double decker bus to mark Beijing's handover to London 2012. Beckham, a key figure in the bid that won London the games, will be joined by Leona Lewis, who was born in Hackney, east London, near to where the next games will take place, and the London mayor Boris Johnson. X Factor 2006 winner Lewis, 23, is said to be singing a duet with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page for the event, which will be screened live to a television audience of as many as 150 million people. Beckham, 33, will be driven into China's national stadium, the Bird's Nest, onboard an iconic Routemaster bus, before dismounting to kick footballs with children representing every country in the world. Mr Johnson will be handed the Olympic host flag from Jacques Rogge, chairman of the International Olympic Committee. Hip hop dancers will then join ballerinas to complete London's £2m, eight-minute contribution to the finale on Sunday, August 24. It will be mirrored by a show in Trafalgar Square and street parties in 10 other cities, including Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester. "It is set to be one of the most mind-blowing spectacles ever," a source close to the organisers said. "David was elated to be asked to take part, as was everyone who has been invited. Having a rock god like Jimmy Page and a singer like Leona Lewis performing together for the first time will certainly be something to remember." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/otherspor...ondon-2012.html
August 19, 200816 yr Author You may also be interested to know that when Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis perform ‘Whole Lotta Love’ at the end of the Olpmpics, that’s me playing bass on it… http://guypratt.ricardopadua.com/blog/?p=74 Can't wait! :D
August 20, 200816 yr Author never heard 'Whole Lotta Love' before, is it a Led Zeppelin song? Yeah and very rocky! Can't imagine how it's going to work but hopefully it's good.
August 23, 200816 yr Author Loads of details on this now: The bus will then transform itself, and X-Factor winner Lewis will emerge from the roof on a rising column to sing an RnB aria before guitarist Page emerges for the duo to perform a new version of Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love'. London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe admitted the handover slot was a tough prospect but believed it would be succesful. "We are not going to win over everybody but it is something that will appeal both to younger generations and to more mature generations such as myself," said Coe, 52. " I just love the version of Whole Lotta Love that he (Jimmy Page) and Leona Lewis have done." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/l...012/7577999.stm As the people in the queue dance beneath their brollies, the bus will begin a transformation, its roof opening like a lotus flower to reveal a stage. Leona Lewis will emerge on a platform to perform an R&B aria. Meanwhile, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page will appear at the other end of the bus and strike out the opening chords of Whole Lotta Love. In order to meet the eight-minute limit the song has been curtailed, but to Page's delight now cuts straight to the solo. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/aug/23/o...2.olympics20082 The LA Galaxy midfielder, Page and Lewis all spelled out their excitement at being involved in Sunday's huge event at the Bird's Nest stadium. Beckham said: "I was so honoured to be asked and I'm so excited to be alongside such talented people. Beckham added: "When I first heard Leona's voice, it's one of those voices you get goosebumps from. It's honour for me to actually be up there with them and it's going to be spectacular." Lewis, who only two years ago had yet to be discovered by the X Factor show, said she was amazed to have been asked to take part. She said: "When I knew who was going to involved in it I thought 'why do they want me?' "I was just so honoured to be asked. I'm really excited about it. "I'm from Hackney and I'm so proud it's coming to London, and how it's going to regenerate the area. For my area especially it's going to mean new jobs, new opportunities and I just can't wait. "It's so big and amazing here in Beijing but London's going to do it differently and uniquely and it's going to be amazing it's own way." Page said he was overwhelmed to have been asked to use his song for the handover ceremony. He said: "Initially they requested to use 'Whole Lotta Love', then it was 'you can play guitar on it if you want to'. Then it was said Leona was going to sing on it, and it just got a momentum of it's own. It's going to be really great. "The Olympics is going to bring a whole spirit of optimism to London and it's going to be fantastic." http://www.sportinglife.com/story_get.cgi?..._Nightlead.html Edited August 23, 200816 yr by Ethereal
August 24, 200816 yr Its live now, Leona and the rest will make their appearances in less than 30 mins. No mention apart from David Beckham yet, so hope Leona is there.
August 24, 200816 yr It was great but I wish the sound was better! It ruined it a bit! Loved seeing Beckham too !
August 24, 200816 yr Tbh, I'm surprised she actually sung live. Events like the Olympics, World Cup, etc. artists always mine to give the best sound. So singing live was pretty good of her (and obviously in result a not so good sound), but tbh, I don't think Page would me 'miming'.
