Posted June 4, 200817 yr I reckon this will be the biggest blockbuster of the summer, Christian Bale in the lead again with Heath Ledger in his last movie before he died at the beginning of the year as the Joker, and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent (Two Face) The trailers so far are very astounding and look pretty awesome this will shatter box offices in the summer. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8a/Dark_Knight.jpg/200px-Dark_Knight.jpg Also casting has already began for the third follow up... so far only Emily Blunt has been casted for Catwoman, there is talks of Phillip Seymour Hoffman to play The Penguin, with a third villain, its looking most likely The Riddler, for a 2010 release. Christopher Nolan will be directing it.
June 4, 200817 yr Are they just remaking all the old films? I'm confused... Kind of I think, but just differently. I think this will be big (a huge box office hit) but I think it'll be relatively down to it being Ledger's last "big" full film as it were. It'd have been big at the box office anyway, but this will make it a bigger hit. It looks very good anyway. Looks very dark too, which is always a good thing. Shall be interesting to see how Heath Ledger comapres to Jack Nicholson as The Joker too.
June 4, 200817 yr There not remakes, they are just completley new Batman films. Batman Begins was brilliant so im excited for this and it looks like Ledger done a brilliant job as The Joker. Cant wait to see it! the next one sounds a bit c**p though catwomen and The Penguin are the worst characters ever.
June 4, 200817 yr Chris Nolan's "Batman" films aren't "remakes", they're more 're-imaginings'.... Pretty much in the same way that the various writers of the "Batman" comics have have come up with variations and developed on themes.. Tim Burton had his vision (based upon German Expressionism and 30s Universal horror films), Joel Schumacher had his (more based on the high camp of the 60s show, only completely missing the irony and humourous elements of the show...), Nolan has taken a different turn again - basing his vision more on the Frank Millar, "Batman Year One", "Dark Knight Returns", "Legends of the Dark Knight" and the Alan Moore "Killing Joke" comic book serials... And it's a grittier, more brutal vision than we have seen before in a "Batman" film incarnation.. I think Heath Ledger's Joker will top Nicholson's to be honest... He appears to be playing The Joker as genuinely psychotically unhinged (the way he was in the comic book serials) as opposed to Nicholson's rather witty, larger-than-life turn.. I dont think we're gonna be laughing at Ledger's performance in the same way as we did Nicholson's... "The Dark Knight" may well turn out to be the best "Batman" film ever made... I have no doubts whatsoever that it will, in terms of story/acting/plot/directing, be absolutely streets ahead of the recent Indiana Jones film, which I found frankly a bit of a disappointment....
June 4, 200817 yr Author Actually I don't even own the orignal 4 Batman movies on DVD, in this day and age, they look pretty naff when compared to Batman Begins, when Batman Begins went to DVD I actually bought it because Christopher Nolan has turned the Batman franchise into a box office hit, I think the Dark Knight, is go to blow Batman Begins twice over.
June 4, 200817 yr Ah so it's basically the same-ish story but imagined through someone else's eyes? So sort of like how Batman should've been first time round perhaps? I understand ^_^ I am definitely seeing this although I wasn't interested in seeing the first one. My friend is Batman obsessed and if I don't go with him to see it he might go crazy or summat. Plus the Heath Ledger thing is a big draw for me, sadly :(
June 4, 200817 yr Nolan has taken a different turn again - basing his vision more on the Frank Millar, "Batman Year One", "Dark Knight Returns", "Legends of the Dark Knight" and the Alan Moore "Killing Joke" comic book serials... And it's a grittier, more brutal vision than we have seen before in a "Batman" film incarnation.. That is why the new Batman films are so much better (persuming Dark Knight will be amazing). Batman should be dark and gritty, pretty much exactly the way Millar made Batman. If the Daredevil film was based on Millar's run of Daredevil comics the film proberly wouldnt of sucked as much. I also agree with your prediction on Ledger, he seems to have created the perfect version of The Joker. The Joker is meant to be a physcotic, dangerous killer but in just about every other version of The Joker i have seen i find it hard to take him seriously. It seems Ledger also worked well on the character: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Knight_%28film%29 To prepare for the role, Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character's posture, voice and psychology.[16][12] While he initially found it difficult, Ledger was eventually able to generate a voice that did not sound like Jack Nicholson's take on the character in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film
June 4, 200817 yr If the Daredevil film was based on Millar's run of Daredevil comics the film proberly wouldnt of sucked as much. I absolutely agree.... Frank Millar and Ann Nocenti's tenures at "Daredevil" were an incredibly fertile time for DD.... I think my favourite Daredevil story-arc of all-time has to be Millar's "Born Again" collection..... The film brough in Elektra and Bullseye, but totally wasted them as characters..... Don't even get me started on the piece-of-sh!t that was the "Elektra" film.... I dont think that Jennifer Garner was necessarily a bad choice for Elektra, she was given bugger all to work with script-wise (hardly her fault...), so let's face it, judging her effectiveness is almost impossible to be honest.....

June 7, 200817 yr Does anyone know if this is a 'You gotta see the first before the next one' sort of film? It's probably not necessary, but would help....
June 30, 200817 yr Full review of the film (includes some spoilers): http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/884/884876p2.html 5 stars :o I have to wait a bit longer to see this since im on Holiday when its released :(
July 2, 200817 yr Just saw the first 5 mins and.... oh... my... :o When Nolan means business, he really means business! He knows how to open with a bang :o
July 3, 200817 yr For those of you who want to whet your appetite, check out a rather cool 70 minute Anime feature related to this called "Batman - Gotham Knight".. It's basically a bit like "The Animatrix"... Different Japanese Anime directors doing their own interpretations of the Dark Knight.. 6 dfferent short features in all, all of them well done... Gets you in the mood for the film....
July 3, 200817 yr Just saw the first 5 mins and.... oh... my... :o When Nolan means business, he really means business! He knows how to open with a bang :o Nolan seems to have learned how to do action a bit better... If "Batman Begins" had one minor flaw it was that Chris Nolan wasn't really an "Action" director as such.... Now more than ever I KNOW that "Dark Knight" is just gonna blow everything away this Summer....
July 3, 200817 yr ^Ive seen that Batman - Gotham Night around quite a bit recently. I thought it was just a DVD feature length film of the cartoon series on TV. Ive heard that The Dark Knight is the FIRST proper film that ever got the whole comic-to-movie thing right. And from the first 5 minutes, you can see that. Ledgers performance as the Joker in the first 5 mins is very sinister and cold hearted. Some people have said that the Joker hasnt been played this well since Jack Nicholson' performance in 1989 and i agree. Im tired of seeing the Joker as some disturbed clown. I think Ledger has the mood of the Joker bang on and definitely portrays the Joker from the early comics (not to sound like a comic book geek )
