Posted June 7, 200817 yr Everybody follows, the iTunes download chart, but what about others? I thought, let`s compare iTunes, to HMV (and maybe, others). This chart, as of 1pm, 7th June 08 (from HMV) 01 Take A Bow - Rihanna 02 That`s Not My Name - Ting Tings 03 Closer - Ne Yo 04 Cry For You - September 05 Singin` In The Rain - Mint Royale 06 Warwick Avenue - Duffy 07 4 Minutes - Madonna 08 Black and Gold - Sam Sparro 09 Heartbreaker - Will I. Am 10 American Boy - Estelle 11 Wearing My Rolex - Wiley 12 Sweet About Me - Gabriella Cilmi 13 Love Song - Sara Bareilles 14 Mercy - Duffy 15 Violet Hill - Coldplay 16 Low - Flo Rida 17 Beat It - Fall Out Boy 18 Rockstar - Nickelback 19 Rythm Is A Dancer - Snap! 20 Propane Nightmares - Pendulum 21 Fascination - Alphabeat 22 I Can Be - Taio Cruz 23 Stop and Stare - One Republic 24 10,000 Nights - Alphabeat 25 With You - Chris Brown 26 Party People - Nelly/Fergie 27 Something Good - Utah Saints 28 This Is An Emergency - Pigeon Detectives 29 In My Arms - Kylie Minogue 30 Mistress Mabel - Fratellis Climbers outside the top 30: 47 Elevator - Flo Rida 50 Shut Up and Let Me Go - Ting Tings 55 If I Never See Your Face Again - Rihanna/Maroon 5 56 Lollipop - Lil` Wayne 57 Jump Around - House Of Pain 59 One Day Like This - Elbow 60 Oxford Comma - Vampire Weekend 61 Stay With Me - DJ Ironic 65 Watch Out - Alex Gaudino/Shena 68 Say All I Need - One Republic 72 Nachna Onda Nel - Tigerstyle 73 Two Doors Down - Mystery Jets 74 Give It 2 Me - Madonna 77 Clubbed To Death - Rob Duggan 83 Colour My World - Petula Clark 85 Disturbia - Rihanna 97 Bye Bye - Mariah Carey 99 Daydream Believer - Monkees If I go further, the 32 - 40 section, is mostly the whole of Duffy`s "Rockferry" Album! To note, though..Mint Royale are not yet number one, on HMV. Viva La Vida, hasn`t been added yet. Snap, are 19..hence a top 30 place, in the proper chart. Ne Yo, is 3 here (and infact number 1, on the Tesco, download chart). Also noted is, Fall Out Boy at 17 (this has been to number 7, on Tesco). No download chart (other, than iTunes) is widely followed, because the actual sales, are very low, but they all make a difference, to the official chart. So, pretty interesting, in the long run. Wouldn`t it be great to see Pet Clark, Rob Duggan, Madonna, and Rihanna battling on the Radio One, top 40! :o
June 7, 200817 yr Author Id hate to see what the sales look like, it looks nothing like the i-tunes chart. Probably more, than MSN. Am 05 Sam Sparro 06 Madonna 07 Coldplay (Violet Hill) 08 Ne Yo 09 Gabriella Cilmi 10 Wiley 11 Sara Bareilles 12 Duffy (Mercy) 13 Taio Cruz 14 September 15 Scouting For Girls 16 Alphabeat (10,000 Nights) 17 Nickelback (Rockstar) 18 Usher/Young Jeezy 19 Fratellis 20 Chris Brown (Forever) 21 Zutons 22 Fall Out Boy 23 Kylie 24 Nelly/Fergie 25 One Republic (Stop and Stare) 26 Estelle/West 27 Flo Rida (Low) 28 Alphabeat (Fascination) 29 Rihanna (Don`t Stop The Music) 30 Neil Diamond (Pretty Amazing Grace) 31 Pigeon Detectives 32 Paul Weller 33 Ashlee Simpson 34 Royworld 35 Kooks 36 Pendulum 37 Sandi Thom 38 Mariah (Touch My Body) 39 Chris Brown (With You) 40 Gullemots Absolutely, no resemblance to iTunes, what so ever! :D
June 7, 200817 yr I do find the HMV chart a bit redundant, I don't follow any other charts, apart from the official one.
June 7, 200817 yr Author I do find the HMV chart a bit redundant, I don't follow any other charts, apart from the official one. Absolutely Mart!n. Over on the Tesco Downloads, it is completely, out of a hat! Look at these highlights.. 06 Release Me - Oh Laura 09 Arm In Arms - Boggs 10 Stop - Jamelia 11 Waterloo - Abba 13 Candle In The Wind - Elton John 14 Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum 25 Andy Abraham - Even If 29 Steal My Kisses - Ben Harper 30 Time To Say Goodbye - Katherine Jenkins 31 Amarillo - Tony Christie 32 Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs 37 Hey You - Madonna Where did that, lot come from? I thought Ben Harper, was the Robert Lyndsey character, in My Family!
June 7, 200817 yr Good to see Jamelia is still somehow selling, Tesco must sell nout if she's 10 with Stop. Sando Thom must have sold a fair bit on MSN if shes still there
June 8, 200817 yr How much of the market does HMV and MSN represent, in relation to the download chart?
June 8, 200817 yr Good to see Jamelia is still somehow selling, Tesco must sell nout if she's 10 with Stop. Sando Thom must have sold a fair bit on MSN if shes still there Someone buying it once would probably send it from 450 to 10  And i think HMV and 7Digital have the 2nd and 3rd biggest share. But it seems Napster have launched for the 3rd time, which is didn't know about: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7409865.stm From wikipedia: As of April 2008, the largest online music service is iTunes Store with around 80% of the market.[3]On April 3, 2008 iTunes Store surpassed Wal-Mart as the biggest music retailer in the US, a milestone in the music industry as it the first time in history that an online music retailer exceeds those of physical music formats. It seems that the CD is actually surviving a little better in the US than here. Because digital higher than physical sales were passed years ago i think. And AmazonMP3 is catching up Itunes in the US. I can find loads of stuff about the US, on googleuk (where it is based on UK hits), but not the UK! Edited June 8, 200817 yr by Harve
