Pick of the week: Camille, Money Note (Charisma)

In the rapidly expanding new genre of extremely fashionable international warbling pop ladies who look as if they'd punch your lights out as soon as sing you a lovely song Camille's had her chances - she was signed years ago and has been on people's lips longer than chapstick - but this release of Money Note is an incredible and deranged blast of summer. This tale of Camille's plans to sing like Mariah Carey comes across like a mix of Grace Jones and Feist; it's funny, addictive and just unquestionably, relentlessly and dizzyingly incredible, vaulting itself so far ahead of the rest of this week's single releases that it's halfway into Wednesday's TV listings.

btw got the previous album le fil?

BUMP. Now my second fave song of the year behind 'I Lust U'. She's just so amazing. :o
I'm sorry, but this DESTROYS I Lust U  The most unique and amazing thing I've heard so far this year  And the album makes me wet too :dancing:

But 'I Lust U' is amazingness and I've played it over 100 times and it's still not boring. :o

I liked 'Gospel with No Lord' - but not heard this one...

Camille - 'Gospel with No Lord' (Charisma)

Since EVERY review of this single is going to mention Bobby McFerrin at least once I'll get it out of the way now - yes, this is a track largely made up of acapella grunts, clicks, slaps and everything that made Mr McFerrin world famous for a very short time in the 1980's. Now, there's a very real chance a similar formula will work for French artiste Camille to break through into fame - bringing her brother-in-law, sisiter-in-law and, erm, hamster-in-law with her presumably.

'Gospel With No Lord' is one of those unique and indescribable delights which pop into the ether with no warning at all. A fabulous mindf*** from beginning to end with occasional glimpses at a mainstream future - mais non! Cela ennuyeux!

So we class Peter Robinson in the Guardian as a singles review or a short comedy act   tho i'm quite shocked that neither his or yours mentions Medúlla which I thought would be more likely than mentioning Paul Weller in a Blow Monkeys review...

I just found a frankly GLORIOUS excerpt from an interview with Time Out:

Camille: I speak French, English, Spanish and four unknown languages. I make these up myself. There is one for the morning, lunch, afternoon and night. The language for the morning is very slow, like 'mebwehmeh', that might mean 'I want more sleep'. The language for the evening is much faster and a little hectic. And a little more Latin. That could be 'keteket ekete kete', which would mean 'I'm so excited I'm going to wear my pink boots tonight!'

I LOVE HER SO MUCH

First time I heard anything by her, was Ta Douleur. She's quite a gal.
