John, that makes no sense, how would it actually alleviate the problem of a social underclass....? Sorry mate, the only way to stop this is to give people a decent, living wage which incentivises them to work and the likes of Tesco, Asda, etc hardly need to worry about "going bust"..... Taxes wouldn't go down anyway either... If you honestly believe that the Govt would take less money off people, you don't know much about Govts, they'll take your money in some way, indirectly if not directly.... Every time an INCOME tax reduction was made, an increase in STEALTH taxes went on.... They just give with one hand and take with the other......

I object far more to stealth taxes than direct ones tbh... At least Direct taxation is based upon someone's actual income, Stealth taxes and VAT affect the poor far more than the rich.....

oh yeah... sorry for being naieve, i'm still living with mother ya' know B)

Still think they should cut benefits though, least the tax payers money wouldn't be wasted on those who cba to work that way.

Cutting benefits would only end up hurting the kids in the long run though mate, kind of catch 22.... And it doesn't take into account that so many people are caught in a "Poverty Trap"... I know several single mums who say to me they want to work but cant find decent enough paying jobs to make up for what they'd lose, so they are waiting until the kids are old enough to go to school.... That cant be right, and I cant help but think that the problem IS the fact that the minimum wage just is NOT good enough to support working families adequately. These are not "bad people", or Chavs, and they didn't do it deliberately, they're just people who've found themselves in that position. Sh"t happens sometimes....

It's all very well for Craig to spout on about putting kids of chavvy parents up for adoption... Well, he kind of assumes that childrens' homes aren't already filled with kids that for some reason aren't being adopted.. A sudden influx will surely exacerbate the problem and put a strain on already pretty tight resources for these places.... Whether this is a problem with our overly bureaucratic adoption system I dunno, but unless that gets sorted, I dont think we should add to the problem....

I would also bring in breeding licences, it is ridiculous that someone needs a licence to keep a dog, a television and a car but do not need one for the most precious and important thing in life, a baby

Anyone wants a baby they should apply for a licence permit where they have to prove that they can afford that baby themselves without taxpayer support, have to undergo phychological and IQ tests to prove their fitness to bring up a baby and then and only then a licence gets granted

Anyone having a baby without a licence is subject to severe penalties and the baby taken into care

That's the most ridiculous and funny thing I think I've ever read on a Net forum. It's a human being's human right to procreate. Whilst I don't agree with teenage girls getting pregnant to get houses and benefits, the idea of psychological tests is ridiculous.

I would perhaps agree with you if it weren't for the sheer amount of horrifying child abuse that occurs at the hands of so-called "parents"..... The vast majority of abuse takes place IN THE HOME Chris..... Look at that fukkin' monster in Austria and what he did to his daughter and granddaughters, look at that b**ch of a "Mother" who starved her kids to death...... If psychological testing can weed out these sorts of b/astards BEFORE they get their paws on kids and we castrate and sterilize the fukkers, then I for one am all for it.....

I don't think it can ever be right that someone working and struggling to bring up a family on a low wage is financially worse off than someone sitting on his/her backside all day claiming benefits. There are now families in some parts of this country where we're into the 5th generation of people who have never had a job in their lives. That is abuse and it's got to be tackled. This 'the world owes me a living mentality' has to be tackled.

And that is the way of things at the moment. I see it in my street. I see it in my day to day working life. Wages are too low. But the benefits system needs a complete overhaul too. But I could wax lyrical on that one for days. And it's late. I need my bed.

but how can you do it?.... many low paid jobs would go altogether if the minimum wage was increased too much, not that they dont deserve it.. but a small business cant often afford to pay much. so its either low paid job or no job.

......... mind you, perhaps the government could help out in these situations. maybe the government should 'top up' these low paid wages instead of paying dole/benefits..

There was no minimum wage when I started working, I started at the bottom and worked my way up by getting qualifications and working 7 days a week. I accepted it, and after many years I feel a sense of achievement and self esteem. No one gave me a help or a top up wage.

I am not against a minimum wage per se, but there is a limit of how high it could be. Everyone cannot earn say £30000 per year as businesses cannot sustain it. Small Companies would go bust, and large ones would just pay people off to reduce the wages bill. Simple economics.

Its maybe not fair, but thats life.

... but 'working your way to the top' isnt an option for everyone, respect for you for doing it, but someone has to do the menial jobs.

i agree that life isnt fair, but some fcukkers are taking the p1ss.
