June 27, 200817 yr a good chart, towards the end of what i class as "my era" which is 1978 to 1985. 1 Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes... was never a big fan of this. Seemed to be a new 12" version of this every week too. 2 Nik Kershaw - I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me... OK song, was his first single but failed to reach the top 40 first time around. 3 Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go... I detested this and still do 4 Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy... great song, sad lyrics 5 Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax... I did like this 6 Michael Jackson - Farewell My Summer Love... awful cash in song 7 Elton John - Sad Songs (Say So Much)... "turn them on" - more like "turn this off" 8 Spandau Ballet - Only When You Leave... not bad but far too polished by now, a wine bar song 9 Sister Sledge - Thinking Of You... excellent song that started life as the B side of Lost In Music in 1979 (I had the original 1979 single) 10 The Pointer Sisters - Jump (For My Love)... good party song 11 Evelyn Thomas - High Energy... I had the 12", still love it 12 The Art Company - Susanna... different, looked typically European though 13 Howard Jones - Pearl In The Shell... OK 14 Ollie & Jerry - Breakin'... There's No Stopping Us Now... I liked this 15 The Smiths - Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now... love it! 16 Ultravox - Dancing With Tears In My Eyes... great song 17 Change - Change Of Heart... I had the 12" of this too. Great song. 18 Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Talking Loud And Clear... not bad 19 Hazell Dean - Searchin' (I Gotta Find A Man)... I bought this on 12" the year before. Remixed by SAW in this chart version 20 Deniece Williams - Let's Hear It For The Boy... a bit annoying 21 Scritti Politti - Absolute... I had the 12" of this too! The B side was a remix which featured Steve "Love The Show" Wright (he of R1 & R2 fame) 22 Ozzy Osbourne - So Tired... can't remember this one, the only one from the top 40 I've forgotten 23 The Style Council - Groovin' (You're The Best Thing / Big Boss Groove)... great song 24 Alvin Stardust - I Feel Like Buddy Holly... awful song, still gets played on the local Magic station 25 Lionel Richie - Stuck On You... terrible 26 Elvis Costello & The Attractions - I Wanna Be Loved / Turning The Town Red... OKish double A side, Turning the Town Red was the theme tune to a C4 Alan Bleasdale series called Scully 27 Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel- White Lines (Don't Do It) - I had the 12" of this and STILL love this song. 10/10 28 Madness - One Better Day... song about the homeless. Good, more maturer sound from Madness 29 Duran Duran - The Reflex... slightly annoying 30 Bananarama - Rough Justice... decent Rama song, long forgotten by most now. 31 Queen - I Want To Break Free... OK 32 Rod Stewart - Infatuation... poor song 33 Nick Heyward - Love All Day... poppy, happy song 34 Lloyd Cole & The Commotions - Perfect Skin... great song 35 Gary Glitter - Dance Me Up... rather naff 36 Bob Marley & The Wailers - Waiting In Vain... a bit dull 37 Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon / Leave A Tender Moment Alone... VERY dull 38 Alison Moyet - Love Resurrection... great song, a great start to her solo career 39 The Pointer Sisters - Automatic.. loved this song, had the 7" version as I love the succinct intro that lasts a week on the 12" version I heard back then 40 Bruce Springsteen - Dancing In The Dark... his last chart entry as just another singer before he became massive in the UK. I liked this song back in June 1984
