As ADELE (HOMETOWN GLORY), USHER (MOVING MOUNTAINS), and WOMBATS (KILL THE DIRECTOR), hang in a top 60. Let`s have a pick of what may hit the chart on the 14th Jul, next Monday... My tips are... TURN IT UP - THE FEELING ANNIE - I KNOW YOUR GIRLFRIEND HATES ME MCFLY - ONE FOR THE RADIO Dare we say, MCFLY in the top 10, next Monday?!! :puke2: :teresa: ANNIE, and THE FEELING should be around the top 40. On a combined download/physical chart (if pre-orders are included) MCFLY would be Number One, FEELING number 13, and ANNIE number 19. That doesn`t mean a thing, of course!! How did Radio Luxembourg do, in July 1977? On Wednesday 6th July 1977, they came up with this... 01 01 SO YOU WIN AGAIN - HOT CHOCOLATE 02 05 MA BAKER - BONEY M 03 02 FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN - EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER 04 NE I FEEL LOVE - DONNA SUMMER 05 03 SHOW YOU THE WAY TO GO - JACKSONS 06 04 BABY DON`T CHANGE YOUR MIND - GLADYS KNIGHT 07 07 PEACHES/GO BUDDY GO - STRANGLERS 08 06 SAM - OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN 09 NE PRETTY VACANT - SEX PISTOLS 10 13 DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO - T. CONNECTION 11 12 YOU`RE GONNA GET NEXT TO ME - BO KIRKLAND AND RUTH DAVIES 12 10 LOVE THEME FROM A STAR IS BORN - BARBRA STRIESAND 13 08 YOU`RE MOVING OUT TODAY - CAROLE BAYER SAGER 14 15 OH LORI - ALESSI 15 NE ANGELO - BROTHERHOOD OF MAN 16 21 FEEL THE NEED IN ME 77 - DETROIT EMERALDS 17 20 SLOW DOWN - JOHN MILES 18 09 LUCILLE - KENNY ROGERS 19 25 EASY - COMMODORES 20 NE ONE STEP AWAY - TAVARES 21 11 TELEPHONE LINE - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 22 22 EXODUS - BOB MARLEY 23 23 I CAN PROVE IT - TONY ETORIA 24 19 QUEEN`S FIRST E.P. - QUEEN 25 NE I JUST WANNA BE YOUR EVERYTHING - ANDY GIBB 26 14 GOD SAVE THE QUEEN - SEX PISTOLS 27 NE WE`RE ALL ALONE - RITA COOLIDGE 28 NE I KNEW THE BRIDE - DAVE EDMUNDS 29 26 GIVE A LITTLE BIT - SUPERTRAMP 30 NE STRAWBERRY LETTER 23 - BROTHERS JOHNSON They did pretty good in 77, on Radio Luxembourg, with 9 in the top 10, 19 in the 20, and 28 in the top 30. STRAWBERRY LETTER 23, was the only major boo-boo, but it did get loads of airplay. Queen`s First E.P. sold on the popularity of "GOOD OLD FASHIONED LOVER BOY". Also, popular on airplay was the Supertramp single. A major powerplay Luxembourg airplay bubbler was the RAH BAND and "THE CRUNCH"...Just when you thought it was over, it started again!! Ever airplay was given to DAVE EDMUNDS (who always covered other people`s songs). ANDY GIBB also got lots, of airplay, but missed the official top 20 (Andy sadily passed away, in the late 80s). TAVARES looked promising, with the follow up to "WHODUNNIT", but did not get to the top 10, with "ONE STEP AWAY". A re-recorded version of "FEEL THE NEED IN ME", proved popular, for the DETROIT EMERALDS (who did it, as a follow up, to a re-released hits package, that was released on an E.P. entitled "COULD IT BE I`M FALLING IN LOVE". The SEX PISTOLS appeared on TOP OF THE POPS with "PRETTY VACANT", and HOT CHOCOLATE finally had a number one, but BONEY M made the top, on Radio Luxembourg, the following week. Let`s finish with a quick challenge...Who will dethrone COLDPLAY from the top of the album chart? What do the team members, think?
July 10, 200817 yr trevs, I've got a question about those old Radio Luxembourg charts... was more than one chart produced at that time? I have a link to the RTL chart dated 05/07/77, a Tuesday (not the 06/07/077 as you have dated the above chart). It's similar to, but not quite the same, as the chart you have. The guy that listed this chart used to write them down each week as they were broadcast and posted them at usenet several years ago: http://groups.google.co.uk/group/alt.music...9160e49b4935c8f The RTL chart above matches the UK singles chart released that same day (but in the usual way that songs climbing were usually higher and fallers much lower). The chart you listed seems more to match the chart from the following Tuesday (12/07/77), with the Sex Pistols being new, but in my version of the RTL chart Donna Summer is a climber, not a new entry... http://groups.google.co.uk/group/alt.music...1c3b6fab8e91d93 Tony Prince admitted the charts in the mid to late 70s were made up, albeit they were "projections" of what he thought the BBC chart would look like the following week - it really would come to something if the station then compiled a revised chart once, say, Music Week was in the shops on the Wednesday...
