Wow, didn't realize there were so many categories. :o I guess they don't annouce all the winners during the show? I don't remember seeing that many during the awards. :P

Can't believe Britney earned all of those noms though! Congrats to her! I'm sure she'll at least get one of them.

With all of those nominations she better have a big feature in the show!

I'm almost sure those nominees are false, Best R&B Video and Best Group Video won't be awarded this year and besides, they were on WIKIPEDIA, don't get too excited because they must be false, if they are real I'll be very happy, but I don't think so...

Britney Spears not performing at VMAs

Tuesday, August 26 2008, 09:59 BST

Britney Spears will not be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards this year, her manager has confirmed.

Reports earlier this month claimed that MTV bosses wanted to give the star a chance to make amends for her disastrous appearance at the 2007 ceremony. Spears's performance of 'Gimme More' at the event was branded an "embarrassment" by critics last year.

However, the singer's manager Larry Rudolph told Ryan Seacrest's radio show that Spears "is in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and was never supposed to perform at that show".

He added: "Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I'm telling you

officially and unequivocally."

The ceremony will take place on September 7. Spears has been nominated in the Best Female category, while the clip for her track 'Piece Of Me' is up for the Best Pop Video award.

I don't really care if she performs TBF. It makes more sense for her to have her big comeback performance when she is actually promoting her new single and album. I hope she atleast is there though.
I'm sure she will be there, because she has 3 nominations - and she's appeared in all the adverts.

I hope so, it wouldn't be the first time she was nominated and didn't go.

Toxic, anyone?

I think she'll show up and I'm sure a lot of people would like to see her there. I'm not too disappointed she's not performing since it's too early still to perform anything new.
Britney wasn't nominated in any of the professional categories for the MTV VMA's. :( 'Professional categories' include Best Choreography, Best Direction and Best Cinematography. There are 6 of these categories total.

You’re probably so far beside yourself with the news that Christopher Mintz-Plasse (a.k.a. “McLovin!’”) will be presenting at the 2008 VMAs that you’re, like, sitting across the room from yourself.

Not that McLovin’ doesn’t deserve some serious VMA McLove, but you know who deserves even more love right now is former badgirl Lindsay Lohan. Not only is Lindsay presenting too, but she also totally deserves a VMA for Most-Improved, which is a new category that we just made up.

Of course, she’d have to beat out Britney Spears, who’s also done a total 180 this year and is basically like the old Britney but better, stronger and more domesticated than ever. Seriously Britney, even bestie-for-hire Paris Hilton has commented on your perfection, and trust us, she knows a few things about the power of reinvention. And, as you can see in the video below, LL Cool J is pretty much Britney’s numero uno fan right now.

So Britney should get a made-up Most-Improved Moonman too, and she should also FINALLY win an actual VMA since she’s been nominated for 16 VMAs and has never gone home with one (!!!). But you know what they say — 17th time’s a charm, and this year Brit has three chances to win since she’s nominated for three VMAs – Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, and Video of the Year.

And it’d be even more supremo dreamo fantastic if Britney came to the VMAs to pick up said hypothetical VMAs — real or fictional — in person. And now would be an ideal time for me to plead: Britney, PLEASE come to the VMAs! Pretty PWEASE!?

Anyway, who should win the Most-Improved VMA? Lindsay or Britney?

Britney should BLATENTLY win that gong

Spears to present award with Phelps?

Friday, August 29 2008, 10:05 BST

By Beth Hilton, Entertainment Reporter

Britney Spears reportedly wants to present a gong with Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The singer's manager recently denied claims that she will be performing at the event to make up for her disastrous comeback last year.

However, Us Weekly reports that she is eager to present an award with Phelps, who won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics.

An insider told the publication: "She hopes to share the stage with Michael Phelps."

The MTV Video Music Awards take place on September 7. Spears is nominated for best female, while her song 'Piece Of Me' is up for the best pop video.

I think that would be really amazing, Phelps and Britney are two of the most talked about celebs ATM, and I think the chemistrywould be cute.

Britney appearing on the VMA's, but NOT performing, according to Russel Brand

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Russell Brand's weekly BBC radio show tonight, August 30th, he accidently read out a list of people "appearing at VMA's" he's not aloud to mention. He didn't see it was not to be read out and said "here's some people appearing... Kanye West, Britney Spears -" then was cut off by his people. He later also said Pink was doing a performance.

Spears to open MTV Video Music Awards

NEW YORK (AP) — It's Britney, baby, one more time. Despite her train-wreck performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last year, the network confirms Spears will kick off the show once again.

But it won't be a performance. Instead, MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said Wednesday, it'll be something "fun and unexpected" on Sunday night's show.

Unexpected is probably the kindest way to describe Spears' performance at last year's VMAs.

In what was heavily promoted as the troubled singer's comeback, she instead gave an unfocused, almost unwatchable performance of "Gimme More," one of the many lowpoints in her year of debacles.

So what made Spears and MTV reunite one more time? "MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated," Spears said in a statement.

"I think for Britney, people are rooting for her, and she's really on the road to recovery," Toffler said, noting that MTV had nominated her for three VMAs, including video of the year, for her clip "Piece of Me." "It feels like it's her year," he added. "It's our 25th anniversary of the VMAs, and she's been such a critical piece of MTV's history." Spears also equals ratings gold: Last year's VMAs were up 23 percent over the 2006 show.

In recent months, Spears, who's working on a new album, has appeared to have cleaned up her act. Her father James has been in control of her personal and professional matters as her legal conservator, and she drew high ratings and positive reviews when she made guest appearances on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" earlier this year.
