Posted July 25, 200816 yr Friday evening, and another set of the very latest (and vintage) charts. Having a delve around the top films, dvds, tv, albums, a trip back to 1992, and then Dave`s top singles (based on Chart Show TV, and updated for this very minute). WALL.E on the first week nets £4,253,736. MEET DAVE gets £681,584, and DONKEY PUNCH gets £144,953. (The top films are compiled by Screen International, for UK Box Office). Here comes the top albums... w/k ending 1st Aug 2008 01 NE NOW THAT`S WHAT I CALL MUSIC 70 - VARIOUS 02 01 MAMMA MIA - OST/VARIOUS 03 02 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER 04 04 VIVA LA VIDA - COLDPLAY 05 11 GOLD - ABBA 06 05 ROCKFERRY - DUFFY 07 03 MELODY - SHARLEEN SPITERI 08 07 WE STARTED NOTHING - TING TINGS 09 09 ULTIMATE STREET DANCE - VARIOUS 10 08 MASSIVE REGGAE - VARIOUS 11 06 CLUBLAND 13 - VARIOUS 12 10 EXCLUSIVE - CHRIS BROWN 13 NE PUT YOUR HANDS UP - VARIOUS 14 NE BEAUTIFUL FUTURE - PRIMAL SCREAM 15 NE VERY BEST OF - THE BACHELORS 16 12 R + B THE LOVE COLLECTION - VARIOUS 17 13 MY SONGS - VARIOUS 18 16 ALL THE RIGHT REASONS - NICKELBACK 19 18 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD: RELOADED - RIHANNA 20 14 CHILLED 91 - 08 - VARIOUS Aside the 9 compilations, in the top 20...the 3, 4, and 5 album are very close anyway. NOW 70 pulls way past 200,000 (on the way to 300,000 by this coming Sunday). The sales between that, and MAMMA MIA are like 150,000+....as ABBA, BASSHUNTER, and COLDPLAY are struggling for 20,000. (This Album chart is compiled from sales/downloads up to, and including Wednesday night). Here were the albums, in July 1992... w/k ending 1st Aug 1992 01 NE NOW 22 - VARIOUS 02 04 GREATEST HITS 1966 - 92 - NEIL DIAMOND 03 07 STARS - SIMPLY RED 04 01 BACK TO FRONT - LIONEL RICHIE 05 02 MTV UNPLUGGED - MARIAH CAREY 06 05 THE LEGEND ESSENTIAL COLLECTION - JOE COCKER 07 09 KAOS THEORY III - VARIOUS 08 11 LIFE OF SURPRISES - PREFAB SPROUT 09 13 GREATEST DANCE HITS - VARIOUS 10 17 THIS THING CALLED LOVE - ALEXANDER O, NEIL 11 10 THE ONE - ELTON JOHN 12 NE DIRTY - SONIC YOUTH 13 03 U.F.ORB - THE ORB 14 06 HEARTBEAT - VARIOUS 15 18 BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE - VARIOUS 16 15 CHANGE EVERYTHING - DEL AMITRI 17 08 MODERN LOVE - VARIOUS 18 RE NEVER MIND - NIRVANA 19 12 RUSH STREET - RICHARD MARX 20 RE DANGEROUS - MICHAEL JACKSON NOW 22 clearing the lot, 1992. That prevented NEIL DIAMOND from a top album (of course in the charts today). Down for LIONEL RICHIE, back up for the best selling "STARS", for SIMPLY RED. MARIAH CAREY had her unplugged album, that was actually an E.P....PREFAB SPROUT spent much of 1985, on the cover of NME. Then finally broke into the top 10, in 1988...then 92 brought the Greatest Hits collection "LIFE OF SURPRISES". ALEXANDER O, NEIL`s album was also a Greatest Hits selection...ELTON JOHN had been to the top with "THE ONE", now going down. SONIC YOUTH smashed in, and had a number of chart singles too (but not enormous hits). The ORB disappeared sharply. HEARTBEAT was a selection of songs from the Yorkshire tv series (the only new recording was NICK BERRY`s title old hit). NIRVANA (and the late KURT) were going back up, along with MICHAEL JACKSON. Other Various Artist comps, included KAOS THEORY III (more hardcore sounds), GREATEST DANCE HITS (was just like it said), BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE (was more dance sounds, mainly 70s), and MODERN LOVE (was a selection of previous chart love songs...Surprise Surprise!! Here are the top singles, in July 1992... w/k ending 1st Aug 1992 01 01 AIN`T NO DOUBT - JIMMY NAIL 02 03 RHYTHM IS A DANCER - SNAP 03 06 THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND - MADONNA 04 02 SESAMES TREET - SMARTIES 05 05 SEXY MF/STROLLIN` - PRINCE 06 13 LOVE SEX INTELLIGENCE (LSI) - SHAMEN 07 12 SHAKE YOUR HEAD - WAS (NOT WAS) 08 09 I DROVE ALL NIGHT - ROY ORBISON 09 10 WHO IS IT - MICHAEL JACKSON 10 04 I`LL BE THERE - MARIAH CAREY 11 15 DAMN (I WISH I WAS YOUR LOVER) - SOPHIE B. SNAP did knock him off, next week (and did take the biggest seller of the year). Kids tv, was covered in "Rave" style by both Smart"e"s, and Urban Hype. MADONNA could not get her "playground", to the top...WAS (NOT WAS) featured KIM BASINGER...THE SHAMEN entered the top 10...ROY ORBISON`s "I DROVE ALL NIGHT", took him to the top 10...3 years after CYNDI LAUPER. PRINCE`s "SEXY MOTHER F***ER" had to be amended to "SEXY MF"...ERASURE descended with their ABBA covers E.P...Suddenly country/rock appeared via BILLY RAY CYRUS (we all remember the CHIPMUNKS version). MARIAH covered MICHAEL...SOPHIE B. HAWKINS was well played, but missed the top 10...DINA CARROLL first appeared in 1991, with the outfit QUARTZ, when she covered CAROLE KING`s "IT`S TOO LATE"...Independant Radio pushed BRYAN ADAMS, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, GENESIS, INXS and CURTIS STIGERS (overplaying them, but the singles of July 92, were not that big for them. A well played song by LYNSEY BUCKINGHAM entitled "COUNTDOWN" missed the chart totally. Meanwhile, JON SECADA, and RICHARD MARX were played a lot, and did much better. Radio 2, prefered DIANA ROSS, SIMPLY RED, and JOE COCKER (Joe covering a RAY CHARLES number). ROXETTE were struggling by now, and AZTEC CAMERA were practically finished, in the way of chart hits. The 1992 Summer olympics, gave us a re-hashed FREDDIE MERCURY/MONSERRAT CABAILLET hit "BARCELONA". (The vintage charts were compiled by MRIB-MEDIA RESEARCH INFORMATION BUREAU for Independant Radio, and the Network Chart 1992). Hang on for Dave`s big singles finish, and the top 50...coming soon

SCOUTING FOR GIRLS (IT`S NOT ABOUT YOU) is in at 67, with NICKI BLISS, GIRLS ALOUD, and the SCRIPT also in the top 70. BOYS LIKE GIRLS are on the edge of the top 70. July 25, 200816 yr You missed The Script :kink: It's only been available since this afternoon, how will it be in the top 50 of the week combined already?
July 25, 200816 yr It's only been available since this afternoon, how will it be in the top 50 of the week combined already? Hmmm I see what you're saying with this!
July 25, 200816 yr It's only been available since this afternoon, how will it be in the top 50 of the week combined already? Yep, I think John maybe confusing the chart with, the "Fresh Hits Top 40", where the Script are already in the top 30 (that`s the chart where we include pre-orders, as well). Saying that, the Script have taken enough downloads, to put them into the combined top 70. I predict "The Man Who Can`t Be Moved", will be the highest new entry in the top 40, next week without fail.
July 25, 200816 yr 1 new entry in the top 40 :o that's practically what you see every week :drama: 03 06 THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND - MADONNA
July 26, 200816 yr Great work, thank you for doing this every Friday evening. Hope Basshunter can stay at No40 but I guess The Script could sneak in there later today. Everytime I see that Jimmy Nail had a No1 I still can't believe it!
July 26, 200816 yr definitely not looking forward to listening to Sweet About Me for the millionth time tomorrow. I think i'll pass again
