I'd recommend switching the retro cut off date to 20 years ago. Who's with me?

nope... it would wipe out a whole decade and the 90's had alot of interesting music in it.

unfortunately theres not enough people interested in 'old' music.

I have to agree with Rob. There aren't enough old farts (and I include myself here!) to sustain a cut off date of 1990-ish even if we do get the forum clogged up with some $h!te topics. At least it shows there is some life in here.
Keep it as it is I reckon coupled with the closing/editing/deleting of $h!te like the Vengaboys topic if they are posted

If you cut it to 20 years ago, that's before half this forum was born, including me!

For me, it's only once I get to 2002 when I can't tell any difference between songs of then and songs of now. 2000/2001 is sort of transitional, and 1999 and before sounds like a whole different age. Listen to something like Steps, N-Sync or the Vengaboys and it's got such a lighter sound to today's modern, more darker pop, except for bands like Alphabeat who are meant to be retro!

I think keeping the cutoff point to the millennium is good for now.

of course no one has to respond to a thread, if its too early, or recent and not what youd call 'retro' then ignore it! :)

theres been alot of '90's' threads here because 'bang' is running a seriese of threads on 90's .

if anyone wants to discuss older topics then please feel free to START one :)

 I'm only 28 but that makes me a Seventies child, well just, by 3 months  So if we cut it to 1988 and forwards we will only be getting a decade or so of good music as the best songs by far came from the early Nineties and beyond ;) So lets leave it as it is :P

Well, it was a nice way of saying "let's talk about something other than cheesy pop from the 90s", but I see all your points. I'm just more of a reactive poster and don't really ever start my own threads!

I'm with you Rob.

Although the cutoff date should be 10 years

Even though I'm a great fan of 60s music I also like music from the 90s, especially European music from this decade.

For me the worst decade has to be this one as it is all filled with US R&B/Rap

fair play m8 :) , no worries.

I'm with you Rob.

well it was ten years... but as time advanced the milennium seemed a good fixed point to use, its easier then a 'rolling' date as time went on .

I think 20 years is a bit too far back too, I reckon the forum would sooner or later run out of topics or at the very least enough posters who want to respond!

I personally think 10 years ago is actually a good cut off point, but that is simply because 1998 and 1999 are fairly similar to me in musical styles as 2000 and 2001. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't participate in a thread about 1999 if one appeared. To be honest, soon 2000 will be far enough in the past to be retro in itself... we are closer to 2016 now than we are to 2000... what a frightening thought.
