Well this was on yesterday and for someone who wants to do Film Studies next year and hasnt watched one of the best films yet i thought i would give it a try.

Anyway, i was completely BLOWN away! Its was different and fresh (even though its well over 40 years old). I havent seen a thing like it. I loved the way they worked the camera and the ending was :o And the psychological theme was perfect, wasnt too complicated and i understood it for a change

Easily one of the best films ive seen. A curse on the person that decides to remake this.

They already did :P

I do like the original though, it is rather creepy, the bit where the killer comes out onto the landing as the man comes up the stairs and slashed him made me sh!t myself the first time I saw it

You mean this bit?

Forget the shower scene - this bit, where Arbogast gets killed is my favourite bit of the whole film.

One of my favourite bits has to be the ending, where the son is sitting in the room and his mother is the voice over. That evil smirk at the end literally sent shivers up my spine

Ive got to say, i wasnt too keen on The Birds (Which was the first Hitchcock film I saw) but Psycho completely opened my eyes to the Hitchcock magic

Noooooo! I love The Birds (I used to hate it for a long time but over the years I've come to appreciate it as one of Hitchcock's best). And I love this scene.

Joao - have you ever seen Strangers on a Train, and Rebecca? Because they are brilliant. And you must watch North By Northwest - possibly my favourite Hitchcock film ever. Also - one of Hitchcock's most under-rated films - Frenzy is a lot better than the critics gave it credit for.

Im afraid to say i havent :(

I have only seen The Birds and Psycho. Im sure when i watched The Birds 2 years ago, i wasnt too keen because i didnt fully understand the whole "Hitchcock effect" (i still dont ) but now that im taking Film Studies and will have to look at films such as these in depth i might give it another try.

I'm certain you'll love Rebecca (both Rebecca and The Birds were based on Daphne Du Maurier novels strangely enough). And North By Northwest has all the traits I love in a Hitchcock film - subtle humour and a really clever plot - and Cary Grant was just the perfect leading man. You should do some reading up on Hitchcock though - fascinating (and not altogether nice) man. Tippi Hedren's career was wound down to almost nothing thanks to him - so much so that she's probably famous now for being Melanie Griffiths' mother - instead of the fantastic actress she had the potential to be.

Nothing to do with Hitchcock - but if ITV4 are showing the original 'The Haunting' in the fright-nights - try and get to see it (it is immensely superior to that awful remake with Catherine Zeta Jones in). Another one to watch out for is Night of the Demon.

And now that I've done my Barry Norman impression - I shall leave!

There is a HILARIOUS line in Charmed's season 2 episode of Chick Flick in which the girls get chased around by characters from Horror films and Piper pays "homage" (i used a smart word :kink:) to Psycho by saying; "Im getting stalked by Psycho Killers and I hide in the SHOWER?!" its f***ing hilarious when you watch it

Yep, thats the bit, you can sort of tell he's going to snuff it, but it happens really slowly, and then you don't expect it to happen and it does, and the music :o So chilling

I love 'The Birds', have you noticed that she wears the same green suit throughout the whole film :heehee:

Indie Cinema guru Gus Van Sant inexplicably did a remake of "Psycho" about a decade ago.... Honestly, it was utterly pointless... It wasn't that it was badly acted or anything (Anne Heche and Vince Vaughn did pretty alright actually....), just really, really pointless because it was basically a shot-for-shot remake.... You cant improve on perfection, and frankly you just shouldn't even touch Hitchcock, anyone else doing Hitch really is just like doing a "paint by numbers" Mona Lisa kit... The upcoming remake of "The Birds" has me filled with dread, it really does.....

I'm just hoping to Christ that no one gets it into their tiny brains to re-do "Vertigo", which is probably my favourite Hitchcock film, and is almost certainly one of the 10 Greatest films ever made.....

That is quite understandable though - she originally only intended to drop the lovebirds off as a present for Kathy - and leave the same day - if you remember - she had to go to the local store to buy a nightie (and I'm hoping she bought a toothbrush at the same time) to stay over at Annie's. I think any other director would have had her in a different outfit in each scene!

Psycho is amazing. I was a bit skeptical because it was way back in 1960 or something but age doesn't matter
