The Saturdays - 'Up' 'Chasing Lights' [13.10.08] [27.10.08]

Rob, tell me, is it because you have/had some kind of fascination with S Club 8 that you feel the need to do this so frequently? I'm not getting at you, but this is just going round in circles.

in a way... i found it hilarious that a bunch of manufactured kids could be better pop product then many adult manufactured acts, i guess im being slightly mischevious, but the 'facts' speak for themselves... 3 consecutive #2s beating or coming a credible second to many established acts. their poorest charter...'dont tell me your sorry' (which again was actually pretty good!) only charted a few places lower then the much hyped battle between kylie and viccy beckham  and sc8 had NO exposure compared to them 2.

obviously the reason i quote scj/8 is because imho (and chart/sales) they have performed better then this bunch .. frankie and rochelle did better as KIDS! ... i have yet to hear a saturdays track that is as good as most of scj/8's .... and so far the chart position and sales support this.

Okay Im just wondering, I've lurked in here for a while and you always seem to post? You've made it clear on about a hundred and fifty occassions that you don't like The Saturdays, so why do you keep entering a thread just to slag them off? Is it not perhaps a bit more productive to go find someone you do like because all you've done is put a downer on the thread all the time.

I really don't get why people can't let other people appreciate music they like without being smartarses about it =\

actually ill address this with a little more detail..

obviously the point of the forum is to debate one way or another the various merits of an act/artist. generally i hate manufactured acts as they have added NOTHING to the creation of decent music, its just confetti, a 3 minute thrill... i find the bum licking adoration of this rather nondiscript act astounding... its worrying that young people should accept this tripe .

i dont suppose anybody will... but this rather lengthy and detailed thread will enlighten anyone bothered to see where i (and others) are coming from

payton reckons im living in the past.... well i take that as a compliment, because the 'past' at least had a voice, substance, creativity, identity, everything that this plastic nothingness (saturdays) doesnt have.

Yeah I get that, it's not against the rules or whatever, but is it not a bit strange to spend all this time on something so negative? I get it's a discussion forum and people are going to disagree on things, but it's just like you come into the thread just to be so horrible about them that it get's a bit worrying.

Rob doesn't seem to have realised that the other members who share his point of view have said their peace and moved on... some people eh.
So they're appearing on Hollyoaks : Late Night - how good eh?!

:o Are you serious? :w00t: When is the late night Hollyoaks specials? I miss them :(

Ah good. I really do need to start watching Hollyoaks again.
They're playing a newly-starting out Northern girl group who do a gig apparently :heehee:
And the 5 night series starts on Channel 4 in November.

'Up' @ Nick Kid's Choice:

Rochelle looks mind-blowingly sexy.

The reason S Club Juniors did so well when they started out is because that style of kiddie pop was more 'in' than it is now, you really think in today's market they would do well with those songs?

At the age of 14/15 or however old I was when they first came onto the scene, I most certainly did not like them and I think songs like 'Up' are in a whole different league to anything S Club Juniors/8 ever did and it will stand the test of time longer for me.

That hyped battle between Kylie and Vicky B was in 2001, about 2 and a half years before S Club 8 released 'Don't Tell Me You're Sorry'.

Great performance at the Nick Awards. I totally thought they were miming at first but they weren't. (well except the chorus) Vanessa nailed the ending too. :)

A great performance. I wasnt too sure either if they were miming or not.
Great performance, i actually watched for them - they really pulled it off.

true, pop was more popular earlier this decade and scj/8 possibly wouldnt do so well now. but i still rate some of there material as good pop, and indeed if 'one step closer' for eg had been done by an 'adult' pop group like steps or even s club 7 it would have been regarded as a 'pop classic'. so i disagree that 'up' (which is better then itil) will stand any test of time. realistically, it just aint that good! but in a few short weeks we will see, ironically i see that katy perry is STILL up there, wouldnt it be funny if she was still up there above the saturdays with 'up' !

yeah i cited the wrong battle... think it was vickb and sophie ellis bextor, the 'revenge' thing for when groovejet reached #1. but whatever, the point stands, sc8 - no promo, not even on radio 1... they had loads..

Now No. 9 in Amazon's Top Single Pre-Releases ahead of Sugababes, Leon Jackson, Jonas Brothers, Snow Patrol
That's good then to know then. Really suprised they are ahead of the Babes though.
Once again (i know its probs boring) my opinion is that the new Sugababes song hasnt really clicked and won't make the position that most people on here think it will, they'll be lucky to get top 3.
