Yeh I love live versions of songs ( Beverley ) but it's just the low quality stuff filmed on some blokes mobile that I'm not entirely into...

I've actually been considering sending another live performance from Beverley at some point but I thought it'd be incredibly cheap if I pretty much sent exactly the same thing - especially since they are mostly from the same night and show as 'Black Butta' was filmed. :heehee: Plus I'm a bit hesitant to send Beverley again because she's my favourite artist and I'd probably take a flop seriously if it was her. :(

I agreee, i think it would be better if the remaining 2 countries send studio versions of GA and Sugababes instead.
It depends how good Delta is live I guess, Beverley Knight has shown that a good enough live performance can win. ^_^

this is true...she doesn't seem to be that great live, on a DVD I have of hers, her voice is a bit croaky at times...it sounded alright in the Believe Again performance though

yep, or else prepare to flop, it's hard to hear the music on cheap fan filmed live performances

If I was Tapatilandia I would change my song choice before the deadline finishes for a newer song by their artist, and a guaranteed Top 3 finish is surely there for the taking.

Ooooh i think i know where you're going with that :kink:

I think Soar could do equally as well - I was very sceptical before hearing it but I really don't think it disappoints

perhaps Tapitalandia want to just see how well one of their favourite tracks can perform in the contest rather than sending a cheap entry to guarantee themselves a high finishing position

Soar is one of Stripped's finer tracks and Mayte obviously chose that song for a reason, it must mean something to her...and she probably doesn't have any emotional connection with the new Xtina track so why send that!?!

The Congratulations thing is coming :o :o

Yes, I will give details that I have planned after BJSC X :dancing:

I agree, although having said that I sent a live performance of Delta's Believe Again in BJSC1...it was quite high quality, but perhaps that's why it flopped so badly :o I should have sent the studio version -_-

I take it from next month we're implementing the 'stick to the first song you confirm' rule!?!

I would prefer the 'don't open the odds thread until after confirmation closes' rule tbh. If we implement the 'stick to the first song you confirm' rule, I bet we'll end up in a situation where people reserve artists until the last day of confirmation in order to make sure that nothing comes along before then, leaving loads of people unsure - what's wrong with changing entries anyway? I may be wrong on this, but I think brunoboi is the first host who has downloaded the videos as they were confirmed and made the recap video as it went along...normally hosts do it after confirmation don't they?

no. I downloaded all of the videos as they were confirmed in BJSC8, downloading the vids takes such a long time, if you were to try to do it all in one day you'd be there forever...

I definitely think people should stick to the first song they confirm, and you should only be able to reserve 2 or 3 artists max in my opinion

I think it would be a massive shame for the very open contest we have so far to be ruined by what will doubtless be a guaranteed top 3 with the new single of an established pop artist who is very popular on Buzzjack...am I the only one that would quite happily see all upcoming lead singles from AF artists banned? :(

Well if these songs - Lily Allen, Pink - do well, then the majority of people obviously like having them in the contest, so I don't think they should be banned tbh. Would also be pretty hard to police; take Lily Allen for example, we don't know whether f*** You Batman or I Don't Know will be the lead single, so you sort of hit a brick wall.

I managed to do it in three hours :o I preferred Aaron's way actually...it wasn't as flashy, but I think there may be something in a flashy video getting a better result than just a picture of the artist. Eliminates any chance of bias IMO ^_^

My spin on this is that reservations would be 'updated' indefinitely until the last day for people who are uncertain, not so much of a problem for Ashton as it's been clear that they're going to be using Sugababes, but for a coutnry like the USR that's quite a few artists taken up until the last day, with people waiting for the last day. I don't particularly see the point of limiting it to no changes really, there wouldn't be any changes as a result of bad odds (which I think was a key problem with this contest), and it is in the end part and parcel of being a host - you do sometimes have to tolerate inconveniences. I think a far better way would be to discourage people changing their songs once they've chosen (after all, as David's proved, even the 'best' of us can be an indecisive lot! :heehee:), as when we look at what happened when we tried to introduce a rule on big artists, there was widespread outrage (for reasons I still think quite defunct tbh ) - but it did make the point that big artists with big songs aren't ideal entries, so now we rarely get any entries as gut-wrenchingly awful as Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You etc. - discouraging is a better way than an outright ban IMO ^_^

I don't think they should be banned but I do think they are incredibly cheap and people who consider use them obviously care more about making sure their country do well than introducing people to a great new song, which is what this contest is about

how many people were introduced to So What through this contest!?! I'm sure everyone heard it in the week before the contest took place...

personally I prefer to go for songs I know nobody else would consider sending because I get a buzz when an unkown song (Mine All Mine, Smack Me, Nobody Without You) comes top 5 off the merit of the song alone

I was referring to confirmed lead singles, but there we go :P I think if anything this shows that banning is rarely the way to go

I agree, but only you, myself David and a few other people care about stuff like this

for a lot of people this contest is just about picking a song and voting for a song, so most people probably couldn't care less if they are frowned upon for picking something we might regard as "cheap" as long as they can be fairly certain that their country does well in the voting

Indeed. I don't understand how people can really feel they've achieved anything with stuff that will obviously do well as everyone knows it will do well - if anything, I preferred my 12th place with Meddle to my 7th with Rachel Stevens (and before we mention Ashlee, I wanted to see if that would actually do well as it had been so long :heehee:) as I did introduce the track to people such as Boyan. Make me proud Camille! :dancing:

That is why I (Nonsuch) have my penalty points weighting system which favours unknown songs & artists and penalises well known artists & songs, because I personally feel that is much more in the spirit of the competition.

Personally, Cyndi Lauper finishing 3rd was a much greater achievement than Lily Allen winning.

For this competition I've fallen back on a slightly cheap entry with (for me) the stand out album track on the biggest selling UK album of 2008 so far and my favourite new song I've heard all year, as the (relatively unknown) artist I wanted to use (CLUE: Look at my current Personal Chart #1) had already been grabbed for a different (& IMHO inferior) song, and I've failed to find anything recently obscure as good as that song.

So this (my 4th) BJSC is the first one I'm entering feeling slightly shafted with my compromised song choice.

Hmmm, I understand what you mean with Embrace vs. Dusk Til Dawn, but I think that Distant Dreamer is quite allowable tbh - if there's one thing I've found, it's that nobody can agree on the best track on Rockferry
