January 21, 200916 yr Author Nicky, it'll be 5-0 to us this'll hit Twitch harder than the car crash that deformed his irritating face
January 21, 200916 yr The worst part about this is Spurs free pass into the UEFA Cup this season. Their team deserves f*** all from this season, let alone a free pass into Europe. I'm gutted for Burnley fans. They deserved that place in the final.
January 21, 200916 yr Yeah I'm annoyed that a Championship club might be in Europe next season when someone like Everton or Wigan would be far more deserving and would do a hell of a lot better!
January 21, 200916 yr Author they haven't because United are gonna win the league we don't need to go into the UEFA Cup so it passes to Spurs
January 21, 200916 yr They've got to win the final first! Correct. Only the winners of the Carling Cup qualify for Europe. So if Manchester United win then assuming they qualify for the ECL in 2009/10, then this place will go to the next highest finishing club in the Premiership outside of the top 4. It is different for the FA Cup because that place belongs to the Football Association & not the League so if the same scenario occurred it would pass to the losing Finalist if they previously had not qualified, otherwise it would pass to the Premiership. Still fingers crossed Burnley will have the opportunity of playing the likes of Manchester United in 2009/10 and Spurs have the opportunity of playing in the second tier.

For a minute there I was thinking that Spurs were gonna be in Europe next season. Spurs don't have a chance of beating Man Utd, they could even beat Spurs with their reserves the way Spurs have been playing lately.
January 21, 200916 yr they haven't because United are gonna win the league we don't need to go into the UEFA Cup so it passes to Spurs The runners up of the League Cup have never qualified for Europe. The runners up of the FA cup don't now either (this may start next season though, I'm not sure). Edited January 21, 200916 yr by RabbitFurCoat
January 21, 200916 yr The runners up of the League Cup have never qualified for Europe. The runners up of the FA cup don't now either (this may start next season though, I'm not sure). Remember the FA Cup Final 2003/4 when the Mancs beat Dennis Wise's Millwall 3-0. Millwall went into the 2004/5 UEFA Cup as a result.
January 21, 200916 yr I know, I worded that badly. I mean that that rule has now been scrapped and it's going to work like the League Cup does. A runner-up now doesn't get a place in Europe. I'm just not sure if it's this or next season they're bringing it in.

I'm just not sure if it's this or next season they're bringing it in. Well it's much better that way imo. It gives the likes of Everton ( :puke2: ), Wigan and to a lesser extent Hull something to build on now, as it's very likely that the 6th placed team this year will be going into Europe.
January 21, 200916 yr anyway the UEFA Cup sounds even worse next season :heehee: as the UEFA Europa League  http://www.uefa.com/multimediafiles/photo/uefa/keytopics/75/40/82/754082_mediumsquare.jpg
January 21, 200916 yr Author didn't think it could get any worse so pointless should have only one European trophy

So if Manchester United win then assuming they qualify for the ECL in 2009/10, then this place will go to the next highest finishing club in the Premiership outside of the top 4. And that's incorrect - the team that finishes 5th already go into the UEFA Cup Europa League. So it would go to the team that finishes 6th. Edited January 22, 200916 yr by DitzyNizzy
January 22, 200916 yr Even worse they're making the format even more like a poor man's Champions League! Can the squads of clubs outside the European Elite really cope with as many games as that?
January 22, 200916 yr There won't be any more games than there are now. And the UEFA cup winners already play two more games than the Champions League winners! Edited January 22, 200916 yr by RabbitFurCoat
