The album's been on repeat all week so I thought I'd rate the songs now I've heard them a fair bit:

My Life Would Suck Without You - 10/10

I Do Not Hook Up - 9/10

Cry - 10/10

Don’t Let Me Stop You - 10/10

All I Ever Wanted - 8.5/10

Already Gone - 9.5/10

If I Can’t Have You - 8/10

Save You - 9/10

Whyyawannabringmedown - 7.5/10

Long Shot - 10/10

Impossible - 8/10

Ready - 8.5/10

I Want You - 8/10

If No One Will Listen - 10/10

Overall Mark - 9

It took me a few listens, but I think it's crept ahead of Breakaway and My Decemeber (and Thankful...but the less said about Thankful, the best) to being my favourite of her albums.

IICHY NEEDS to be a single. i love that song - its like fly on the wall but with better vocals and a catchier, less annoying tune
There are clips of 'Tip Of My Tongue' and 'Can We Go Back' on Australian iTunes. :) They sound alright, not amazing. There are also some clips of the Making Of Video and Album. :)

Tip Of My Tongue is
Apart from the Bridge LOL I REALLY like it, but the Bridge really is awful! LOL
I really like Tip of My Tongue but it doesn't seem to go anywhere, still a really good song
I like Tip Of My Tongue, great production from Tedder. It's not really Kelly's style though and I can see why it's a bonus track.
Got the album in the shop today!! Deluxe version of course. I'm loving Cry, Already Gone, Don't Let Me Stop You and Save You.

Tip Of My Tongue is absolutely incredible. So charged and atmospheric. Kelly is oft-criticised but songs like that show why she deserves her place on the scene. She can be so much more experimental than her contemporaries. Pop princesses like Britney can release anything, normally half-hearted, and it gets lapped-up. I'm happy knowing Kelly is the best out there. [/off-topic]

My Copy came through the post today! But I forgot to cancel my order and order the deluxe edition :drama: So I have the Standard edition :(

Also, The Sticker on the front mentions 'My Life' & 'I Do Not Hook Up'... but also 'Already Gone' :cheer: Possible 3rd single?

I really hope Already Gone is the third single. When I was first listening to the album, Cry was my favourite. But then came Already Gone.

Tomorrow I get my pre-order from iTunes!

'Can We Go Back' leaked. :) I really like it, second best of the bonus tracks for me after 'The Day We Fell Apart'.

Kelly Clarkson: 'All I Ever Wanted'

Released on Monday, March 9 2009

One question trumps all others when discussing the new Kelly Clarkson album, so it makes sense to tackle it at the start. Is All I Ever Wanted a return to the sound of her 2005 blockbuster Breakaway? Well, the not terribly snappy answer is yes, for the most part, and especially at the start. In fact, three of All I Ever Wanted's first four tracks feel like close relations to Breakaway's signature hits. Lead single 'My Life Would Suck Without You' apes 'Since U Been Gone' fairly shamelessly, 'Cry' is an teary-eyed power ballad in the 'Because of You' mould and, well, the intros to 'Don't Let It Stop You' and 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' are almost comically similar.

Elsewhere, the three pillars of the Breakaway sound - heavy guitars, crisp, radio-ready production, gloriously unsubtle pop hooks - are all present and correct. Of course, this makes All I Ever Wanted feel like a bit of a retread, especially after Clarkson tried to branch out on 2007's ballsy but commercially unsuccessful My December, but as retreads go this album is remarkably satisfying. Songs like 'I Do Not Hook Up', 'All I Ever Wanted' and 'Cry' have choruses that will fill arenas from Sydney to San Francisco, while even the pair of 'Deluxe Edition' bonus tracks are catchy and well-crafted. Lyrics-wise, there isn't much variety here, with almost every song being about some kind of break-up or reconciliation, but on this form Clarkson could sing the transcript from a Leona Lewis interview and keep you listening.

What's more, the willingness to try something different that Clarkson showed on My December hasn't entirely been erased. A handful of collaborations with OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder have a more electro-infused sound than Clarkson has tried before, with 'If I Can't Have You' sounding a bit like The Killers covering Miley Cyrus's 'Fly On The Wall', while 'Ready' and 'I Want You' draw from The Beatles and 60s girl group pop respectively. Most surprising of all is the snotty pop-punk of 'Whyyawannabringmedown', on which Clarkson snarls the so-daft-it's-brilliant line "I'm not your love monkey".

So, how to view Clarkson's motives here? Well, it's easy to portray All I Ever Wanted as a bit of a sell-out - a return to a tried and tested formula after an album that cost Clarkson her multi-platinum sales figures, her status as an arena-filling live act and even her manager. Then again, playing devil's advocate for a second, could it not be that Clarkson is merely returning to what she does best after working through a few artistic difficulties on My December? Either way, there's no denying the brutal effectiveness of most of these songs and, whatever she may really be thinking, the brilliant way that Kelly Clarkson sings them.
