I still think the singles chart will speed up once again, when iTunes finally bows to record label demands of being able to remove tracks from sale. This will have the effect of making singles fall off the chart a lot quicker. iTunes won't do it at the moment because most of their profit comes from single track downloads but when digital album sales do finally take off, then iTunes will agree to do this a lot more.

Why make a download unavailable? Surely that's not in the best interests of the consumer? They don't exactly take up any physical space or require a press or what have you to make copies.

Precisely - and I can't understand why it's in a label's best interests either. People will simply resort to illegal downloads again and they'll lose out - possibly even more. As people become more 'educated' in how to find albums for free on the web there'll possibly be an upturn in illegal downloads again.

Quality will out. If a song's good enough to get to number one it will (well, I say that with my tongue slightly in my cheek, but it makes sense kinda!)

What makes the slow chart more annoying, is the fact Fearne and Reggie seem to play the ones that stay around for ages for weeks and weeks on end, rather than playing the songs that have not been in the chart for long.

But I guess from a Radio Stations point of view a single that has been in the Top 40 for 25 weeks as opposed to one that has been in there for 3 weeks clearly is a popular major hit no?! And they probably think that is what people want to hear.

To be honest they should play EVERY song in the Top 40 though!

That is extremly annoying, Rockstar seems to be getting played every single week.

and Wes Butters even played Funeral For a Friend once, even though the single went 19-38!.

I'll never forget the number of times they played "Umbrella" as opposed to Rhianna's most recent hit at the time!.
