Of COURSE they judge on the lead single. Thats why people put out lead singles in the first place. If it was just a case of liking the artist, nobody who had released previously would ever bother with lead singles going by your logic.

People DID buy it because they like Sugababes - 20,000 people - but aside from those people and the core, solid fanbase, the public didn't like Girls so didn't buy Catfights, simple as.

Well it's not an album seller. And if you compare the sales to AYN (it's sold only a quarter as much) that tells you a lot.

^^ no i do actually see what you mean, like you said change sold amazingly at first because of AYN, no doubt about it.

But what i am saying is, sugababes are an album seller act as a rule and there are a lot of people out there who if an act is popular enough, they will buy their album without hearing anything because they will be intrigued what they have to offer in 2008.

I mean some acts do terrible with a single and then sell loads of albums, thats coz people are into the act and not the singles.

But its probably a combination of both things.

Probably.

Anyway I've said it before in this thread - I'm not going to worry about sales of the album for now. If it doesn't start selling by December and No Can Do's release - that's when I'll worry.

Most people probably aren't expecting a new Babes album to be out already.

After all, they have been known in the past to take longer breaks between albums. I think that some people will be asking for C&S for xmas, especially younger kids who will no doubt be buying GA's latest thing and can't afford both.

If C&S was out in the new year, IMO it would have slightly higher sales as anyone who wanted it would be able to wait for xmas.

Girls was a poor lead single, this is shown by the fact that it didnt reach #1 like most lead singles from the Babes tent to do. However, i dont really see what else they coulc have gone with. Every Heart Broken is in my opinion the best song, but it aint lead single material.
I think Every Heart Broken should've been the lead, lol.

I agree, the attention it would have grabbed :kink:

I love love love your sig Jark :kink: :kink:

to just say how bad this band is doing i ... Girls aloud have already outsold sugababes new albums after just 2 days of sales compared to 2weeks+ for sugababes

promo has been good they have had great airplay! it shows that quality is the main factor,,, where as if you look at bands that i like ... their airplay isn't as half as high as sugababes yet they do well :)

!

Judging by the massive success of the band in your sig who haven't done a worthwhile thing in YEARS (Lyla excepted), I'd say quality isn't a factor whatsoever.

:heehee:

Do you guys genuinely think that an unpopular single stops people from buying an entire album?

Erm, no, nobody judges an album from one song. I bought C+S and if i just judged it on girls, i wouldnt have touched it with a barge pole.

And this is a single that made top 3, its hardly unpopular is it? The fact is, people are obviously not interested in the babes or the album, if they were, they would be buying it.

And this is not bashing, i personally think its a good album but then again, i like the babes so made the effort. Other people should.

I don't agree at all.

'Girls' may have done ok (it is dropping down the chart like a boulder though), but who is it going to convince to buy the album outside of their existing fanbase? Think about it, this is the only song the general public know from this album so far, and it shows that barely anybody outside their core fanbase has bought it thus far.

I don't think 'No Can Do' will help that much, 'Every Heart Broken' really would have. They can't afford to make risky single choices like 'No Can Do' as the second single in this current situation. The saddest thing is, if I'm right about the second single not doing much to help it, it will be dead by the third single and not many will care regardless of what's released. :(

At least the album hasn't been dropping through this weeks midweeks, its stuck at #38 all week, down 12 from last week but at least it'll make 3 weeks in the top 40.

I actually think Girls may have been pushed too much, its pretty much has the same amount of promo as About You Now, but because of the Boots ad tie in, it may just be a bit too much, i have to admit, if i here "here come the girls, girls, girls" one more time i will feel like commiting suicide (maybe this is where Every Heart Broken comes in! :) )

Its wierd though that if they had the track last year, they didn't use it on the Change album, as i think it suits that album more. Maybe they had to choose between About You Now and Girls as lead, and could only pick one of them, using the latter for the next album? I'm purely guessing here

They've said that girls appeared 2years ago (Overloaded) and didn't fit in with their direction at that time (Easy) evidently it really doesn't fit in on the Electopop/ballad Change. Its defo suited to the soulful Catfights, however, the song would have been fresher 2years ago before Boots overplayed the sample its based on to death.

I don't think any song could sample Take That's shine (just as an example) because Morrisons have used it for so long (every 15-20mins in store :manson:)

I live in the US, so could you please explain what this "Boots" thing is you are talking about? I don't know anything about this. Is it another song or group that sounds like Girls??

Boots is a shop in the UK, and the original version of Girls was used for the adverts for Boots ^_^

Its a poor album to be honest - compared to the old albums as well....Its sad really - was really looking forward to it - no song on it is amazing

^^ i think its a thing called opinion.

Though, i do think there are amazing songs on C+S but i would still understand if people didnt like them.

Girls 6/10 Not a good choice of lead single. I get bored of the chorus

You On A Good Day 5/10 I don't like this song

No Can Do 6/10 Also not a better single choice

Hanging On A Star 6/10 I get bored on the second listen

Side Chick 10/10 Yeah, they should do like this.

Unbreakable Heart 10/10 Nice song

Sunday Rain 8/10 Good ballad, but it sounds like "Sometimes" (from Three) part 2

Every Heart Broken 10/10 I love this song. Should've been a single

Nothing's As Good As You 4/10 Blah, nothing's good from this song

Beware 8/10 Just great

Sound of Goodbye 10/10 :w00t: Oh I love this song so much! Hope it is the fourth single

(Can We Call A) Truce 9/10 Nice ballad, they sing it beautifully
