I remember when Amerie's "Take Control" was released it was like #3 on iTunes, had great airplay and great video play. Most people thought it would at least go Top 3 which a chance of #1, then when it peaked at #10  shocking.

Shakira - Whenever Wherever. Sold more than enough to be #1 in a normal week but it was released the same week as Will Young's first single for some stupid reason.

A few more:

Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man

Arctic Monkeys - Brianstorm

Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up

Rihanna - SOS

Dido - White Flag (did this go #1? I seem to remember it being #2)

SPICE GIRLS - STOP (Arguabley one of the most radio-friendly and popular songs, yet managed around 350,000 sales as a #2 record)

GIRLS ALOUD - CALL THE SHOTS (Again one of their most popular tracks, peaking at #3 but becoming one of their biggest sellers)

LEONA LEWIS - BETTER IN TIME/FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND (Really deserved #1!!)

SPICE GIRLS - HEADLINES (FRIENDSHIP NEVER ENDS) (Hyped until the week of digital release.. then it all went wong!)

ROBBIE WILLIAMS - RUDEBOX (Failed spectacularly!)

HEAR'SAY - EVERYBODY (Peaked at #4 after being beaten out by the then-unkown Daniel Bedingfield)

RACHEL STEVENS - SWEET DREAMS MY LA EX (Narrowly missed out on a #1, just like her other monster hit SOME GIRLS)

S CLUB - SAY GOODBYE (Ahead in the midweeks but pipped by Saturday sales of R Kellys Iginition)

Not sure if this was mentioned, but the ultimate:

Spice Girls - Headlines

That song is immense. Really deserved to do a lot better than #10

I don't know how Geri Halliwell's Lift Me Up outsold Tin Tin Out/Emma Bunton' s What I Am.

Not only LMU was a far worse song, but it was the third single from an album who was out for months, whereas WIA was only available by the single.

I preferred What I Am, although neither song was fantastic

Tin Tin Out's finest moment was Here's Where The Story Ends, now there's a song that should have been a No.1!

I heard this song last week for the first time in AGES. Childhood flashbacks!

I agree. Back in 1990 with the original:

The Sundays - Here Where The Story Ends (1990)

if anything Jlo's "Waiting For Tonight" should've been Emma & Geri that week. By far the best song of the week

Couldn't agree more.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS - RUDEBOX (Failed spectacularly!)

I remember Sky News saying that it was a strong candidate for No1, 'cos it was at No30 in the chart the day before it was released.

What wasn't mentioned was that the Scissor Sisters were (I think) No4 with IDFLD, which came out the same day.

if a song was at No.30 now the week before its physical release, it would be a strong candidate for No.22 the following week
