Posted September 16, 200816 yr Beverley Knight has revealed that her forthcoming sixth studio album will have a "upbeat" and "funky" sound. The singer admitted that she is keen to stand out from other soul stars like Adele and Duffy on the new disc. "I'm in the studio working hard on the record," Beverley told the Daily Star. "It's soul obviously but it has funk and a lot of other elements to it. "It won't be a slow album like Adele or Duffy - it will be more upbeat and rocky with big, big vocals. It may sound like early Tina Turner and there may be a little bit of Chaka Khan in there." Knight added that she is thrilled with the current prominence of female artists in the UK charts, giving special praise to troubled singer Amy Winehouse. She said: "For me, the queen of the new generation is Amy. She is an outstanding talent." DigitalSpy EXCITING :cheer: yey
September 16, 200816 yr Author I can't wait now, I hope it has some real good more dancier songs cause her voice really suits that sort of music more Come As You Are's please.
September 16, 200816 yr Yeah, i really hope for a strong lead single to help launch the album like CAYA.
September 16, 200816 yr Ooh sounds great. :D It sounds a bit like another 'Music City Soul' to me as that was kinda funky. But I'm not entirely sure what funk music actually is - I'm thinking "Black Butta", "Rock Steady" and "Saviour" as quite funky tracks from her last album which could be good (Black Butta) or bad (Rock Steady). The promise of "upbeat and rocky with big, big vocals" sounds like there could be another 'Black Butta' on the album which would be amazing for me. I might have to have a listen to a bit of early Tina Turner and Chaka Khan to see what we're in for. The only thing concerning me is that this sounds just as not commercial as 'Music City Soul', which could lead to more low sales. :( I think I'll enjoy this album loads but I'd rather she did something commercial so she has a chance of being certified Gold or Platinum even.
September 16, 200816 yr Author I don't reckon it will have the live feel MCS had though, which is a good thing I think
September 17, 200816 yr I don't reckon it will have the live feel MCS had though, which is a good thing I think  True, it doesn't mention anything like that. I liked the live feel, but that probably didn't help it commercially. Hopefully it still does well but Chaka Khan didn't do that well with her own album last time so hopefully the public change their mind and buy a 'funky' album when Beverley releases hers. I'll be happy whatever it sounds like but I don't want this to flop and lead to her being dropped.
September 28, 200816 yr WOW, i hope its more mainstream than ever (but still with Bev's style) and that it sells lots and lots!
September 28, 200816 yr WOW, i hope its more mainstream than ever (but still with Bev's style) and that it sells lots and lots! It really doesn't sound mainstream at all to me. When was the last time there was a successful funk album/single in the UK?
March 6, 200916 yr Author We now know for certain then shes been working on it for like ummm 7 months so its gotta be good :o
March 7, 200916 yr We now know for certain then shes been working on it for like ummm 7 months so its gotta be good :o I just hope it's ready soon. :( I want to hear something new or even a leak of a previously unreleased song. Wikipedia has a list of loads of songs she's recorded but never released to the public, it makes me so twitchy. I need my Bev fix!
March 8, 200916 yr I actually think I will. "The Pressure" was a good little peace maker but I need more now.
March 8, 200916 yr It really doesn't sound mainstream at all to me. When was the last time there was a successful funk album/single in the UK? Monkey Business obvs. 1.5m copies :o
March 9, 200916 yr Monkey Business obvs. 1.5m copies :o Black Eyed Peas are quite odd funk. :| They lean more towards hip-hop imo. Chaka Khan, Kool & The Gang, James Brown etc. come to mind when I think of funk music. Maybe I don't understand the proper meaning. ^Bev will obviosuly sell double that Of course, it's not like she'd be lucky to get 5% of that. :(
March 9, 200916 yr The BEP's newie is $h!t tbh God Aaron, why would you say such a stupid thing. Bev regularly sells 5million+
March 10, 200916 yr I like it, I don't think it'd make a god single but it's pretty good. Of course she does, she's more successful than Dido.
