Metallica rule again, though. Now for my good pal Mart!n (who this week in 1979, first started writing the chart down each week).. Here are the top albums this week in 1979: 01 01 DISCOVERY - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 02 04 IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR - LED ZEPPELIN 03 02 SLOW TRAIN COMING - BOB DYLAN 04 16 ROCK N` ROLL JUVENILE - CLIFF RICHARD 05 03 I AM - EARTH WIND AND FIRE 06 07 STREET LIFE - CRUSADERS 07 06 BEST DISCO ALBUM IN THE WORLD - VARIOUS 08 08 BREAKFAST IN AMERICA - SUPERTRAMP 09 19 PLEASURE PRINCIPAL - GARY NUMAN 10 22 STRING OF HITS - SHADOWS 11 05 VOULEZ VOUS - ABBA 12 11 PARELLEL LINES - BLONDIE 13 18 MIDNIGHT MAGIC - COMMODORES 14 14 OUTLANDOS D`AMOUR - POLICE 15 17 NIGHT OWL - GERRY RAFFERTY 16 09 REPLICAS - TUBEWAY ARMY 17 12 DOWN TO EARTH - RAINBOW 18 NE MANILOW MAGIC - BARRY MANILOW 19 NE OCEANS OF FANTASY - BONEY M 20 21 HIGHWAY TO HELL - AC/DC ELO topping the albums in `79. GARY NUMAN was the chart electro king, with 2 albums in the top 30 and also the lead of TUBEWAY ARMY. CLIFF took a big climb, although his follow up single to "We Don`t Talk Anymore", called "Green Light" did not do so well. A well mixed chart here to, with the SHADOWS, ABBA, BLONDIE, POLICE, and rocking with LED ZEPPELIN, RAINBOW, and AC/DC. Did Mart!n buy any of those in 1979? He might of bought some of these singles: 01 02 CARS - GARY NUMAN 02 01 WE DON`T TALK ANYMORE - CLIFF RICHARD 03 05 DON`T BRING ME DOWN - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 04 09 IF I SAID YOU HAD A BEAUTIFUL BODY - BELLAMY BROTHERS 05 04 STREET LIFE - CRUSADERS 06 11 LOVE`S GOTTA HOLD OF ME - DOLLAR 07 03 BANG BANG - B.A. ROBERTSON 08 06 ANGEL EYES - ROXY MUSIC 09 08 JUST WHEN I NEEDED YOU MOST - RANDY VANWARMER 10 12 GOTTA GO HOME - BONEY M 11 NE MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE - POLICE 12 19 REGGAE FOR IT NOW - BILL LOVELADY 13 21 STRUT YOUR FUNKY STUFF - FRANTIQUE 14 07 MONEY - FLYING LIZARDS 15 24 SAIL ON - COMMODORES 16 10 GANGSTERS - SPECIALS 17 13 DUCHESS - STRANGLERS 18 17 GONE GONE GONE - JOHNNY MATHIS 19 25 CRUEL TO BE KIND - NICK LOWE 20 18 LOST IN MUSIC - SISTER SLEDGE 21 26 TIME FOR ACTION - SECRET AFFAIR 22 42 THE PRINCE - MADNESS 23 37 THEM HEAVY PEOPLE - KATE BUSH 24 27 BOY OH BOY - RACEY 25 14 OOH WHAT A LIFE - GIBSON BROTHERS 26 39 SINCE YOU`VE BEEN GONE - RAINBOW 27 16 I DON`T LIKE MONDAYS - BOOMTOWN RATS 28 28 TOMORROWS GIRLS - UK SUBS 29 38 SLAP AND TICKLE - SQUEEZE 30 NE DON`T STOP `TIL YOU GET ENOUGH - MICHAEL JACKSON 31 30 GET IT RIGHT NEXT TIME - GERRY RAFFERTY 32 15 AFTER THE LOVE HAS GONE - EARTH WIND AND FIRE 33 22 WHEN YOU ARE YOUNG - THE JAM 34 27 SOMETHING THAT I SAID - THE RUTS 35 20 IS SHE REALLY GOING OUT WITH HIM - JOE JACKSON 36 44 BACK OF MY HAND - JAGS 37 NE WHATEVER YOU WANT - STATUS QUO 38 31 SPIRAL SCRATCH - BUZZCOCKS 39 23 DUKE OF EARL - DARTS 40 NE YOU CAN DO IT - AL HUDSON AND PARTNERS GARY NUMAN top of the singles. Gary has a slight addiction..he loves eating toast. Down for Cliff. The BELLAMY BROTHERS had the year`s corny chat up line "IF I SAID YOU HAD A BEAUTIFUL BODY WOULD YOU HOLD IT AGAINST ME". DOLLAR got a top five hit, DAVID VAN DAY/THERESE BAZARE of course previously out of GUYS AND DOLLS. THE CRUSADERS featured RANDY CRAWFORD (her first hit). B.A. ROBERTSON (BRIAN ANDERSON) had his first hit. Outrageous names RANDY VANWARMER, and BILL LOVELADY hit the top 20. BONEY M`s hit "GOTTA GO HOME" was coupled with "EL LUTE". JOHNNY MATHIS went disco, and it worked! Other disco smashes with FRANTIQUE, MICHAEL JACKSON, AL HUDSON, and SISTER SLEDGE. The other side of "LOST IN MUSIC", was "THINKING OF YOU", the 1984 re-release. NICK LOWE was previously with DAVE EDMUNDS ROCKPILE. The SPECIALS (from Coventry) got their first hit, as did MADNESS. KATE BUSH was "Live" on the E.P. "KATE BUSH LIVE ON STAGE"..the main track being "THEM HEAVY PEOPLE", with Kate rolling balls, and stuff. Alternative music from UK SUBS, and the RUTS. GERRY RAFFERTY couldn`t get it right, and did not make the top 20, this time. ROXY MUSIC had something in common with ABBA, when they both released songs called "ANGEL EYES". DARTS went almost out, with their re-make of a 1962 minor hit for GENE CHANDLER (who himself made a comeback in 1979). BOOMTOWN RATS "I DON`T LIKE MONDAYS", was banned in the States because it was written about a girl in School over there, who took a firearm in the classroom. (The top films are compiled by Screen International, the top dvds are compiled from shops/rentals across Britain by DTR, the top tv compiled by BARB, top albums compiled from shops/download sites up to Wednesday evening, and the vintage charts were compiled by Record Business magazine, for Independant Radio 1979). Hang on, and I will stick on the latest singles charts...from about 8.30pm...
