September 28, 200816 yr Author this is the salient point.... i think he is the 'least bad' option (brown) and if an election was called tomorrow i think the general public would still back him. people dont like him, but cameron?... nah, too schoolboyish and when you get the likes of peter hitchens rubbishing him you know hes on a loser. nick clegg?... I disagree that Brown is the least bad option. This financial crisis is such a global monster that I think there is very little our PM can do to affect its impact either way, and I don't believe the economic situation now would be significantly better or worse right now if that election had been called last November and the Conservatives had won. Like it or not, our economy at present is generally at the mercy of the American and to a lesser extent the Chinese governments. But in any case, I think Vince Cable for the Lib Dems would be as equally competent at handling the economy in general terms as Brown and Darling are, and moreso than Cameron and George Osborne. Also, while I dislike Clegg, I still believe the Lib Dems in general have not sold out on their core ideology and that they would try and force through some centre-left policy should they get some influence (through a coalition, which I sincerely hope happens at the next election). September 28, 200816 yr Maybe a lot of people think that because Gordie is Scottish, dour faced and boring that he's automatically good with money. (For what it's worth, I don't. The country is up to its eyes in debt. And it all happened under his watch. Financial genius? God help us....)
