June 1, 200916 yr I still think New In Town is the best song on there. It's edgy, it's different, commercial but not obvious. The album is a DRAG. Disappointed. Remedy is very safe and tepid, I'm not into it at all.
June 1, 200916 yr Stuck On Repeat is quite average tbh IMO :( Remedy is OK but nothing great, as Jonny said  I so want to get into her music but i can't :snif:
June 1, 200916 yr I really don't like Remedy. Vocals are pretty neat, but the tune is one of the most painful thing my ears have ever listened to. I've listened to the song twice and it drives me insane everytime I hear it. It might just be the radio rip, but I really don't think the song is that amazing personally.
June 1, 200916 yr I like what I'm hearing so far! "New In Town" is my favorite still. But I bet most of the songs will start to get a lot better when I keep hearing them
June 1, 200916 yr Album feels a bit...muddy. I dunno. It's alright, but disappointing. :( Much more interested in hearing La Roux's debut. Some good tracks though. Stuck on Repat is obviously lovely, Earthquake is great even if it's the same as it was months ago. Remedy is a pop stormer, though it's not worthy of the worship some people are giving it. Just a catchy pop song. Symmetry is catchy. Ghosts is lovely, but again another old track. I'll probably be in the minority here, but I still think New in Town is the catchiest thing on the entire album... The rest of the tracks are forgettable.
June 1, 200916 yr Mmm. The albums biggest flaw is that is lacks continuity. You can tell she has been with different producers, which creates a slightly disjointed affect. The plus side of that are the songs are largely strong enough that it sounds like a Best of Compiliation instead of a debut album. I'm going to be controversial here and say the nadir for me is Remedy. Which to me sounds like Geri Halliwell making a comeback trying to be Lady GaGa. However some of the newer tracks especially the slower tempo tracks are a nice surprise. In short the less poppier/more quirky/more moody the track (i.e. those sounding like Dubstar, down tempo Pet Shop Boys or St Etienne) the greater the success/enjoyment compared to the poppier end of the scale (which sound like Kylie or Geri Halliwell cast offs). However I still think New In Town & Stuck On Repeat are the standouts. But I would add Click; Symmetry and Hearts Collide to the list.
June 2, 200916 yr :o I'm shocked at how good the album is :o Standout tracks so far for me are Meddle, New in town, Remedy, Click, Ghosts ... but there're still songs I have to discover :o Mathematics may be my fav at the mo, the lyrics are purely AMAZING ! I mean, you have to be a genius to write : Don't know my Fibonacci or Pythagoras But the only formula I know will work for us is that When we're together in the sum of our parts It's far greater than what we added up to at the start So tell me everything must always equal two Or nothing else is true And I'll believe you Cos your X is equal to my Y But equations pass me by So will you take just a little of my mind and subtract it from my soul Add a fraction of your half and you'll see it makes me whole Multiply it by the times that we've never been apart You'll see nothing can divide just a heart plus a heart I'm gonna listen to this album all summer long I predict  Edited June 2, 200916 yr by Bert for Lashes
June 2, 200916 yr Please tell me they haven't changed Mathematics too much, it's my fave early song...
June 2, 200916 yr "Earthquake" is perfection.  "Stuck On Repeat" is still a well produced classic. :D If it was released in the 1980's, it would have been an easy #1. "Click" is pretty good, but it's the chorus that really makes the song great. "Remedy" is still the best thing in the universe! #1 for 2009 please! "Meddle" is quite good: very funky. :D "Ghosts" is a cool song! I can really relate to "Mathematics" - awesome sound and it has a good message: I've always disliked maths too. :P "Symmetry" has always been one of my early favorites thanks to Phil Oakey: LOVE Human League! :D This needs to be a single! "Tune Into My Heart" is really cute; great use of synths in the track. Very Kylie Minogue to some extent. "Hearts Collide" is just amazing. :D Simple but it just keeps building up to a gorgeous little chorus. I enjoy it muchly! "No Brakes" has excellent production: I love these sort of electro-ballads. It's a lovely song with its own unique sense of emotion. "Love Kills" is pop glory. :D I really love this! Album Ranking: 01 - Remedy 02 - Stuck On Repeat 03 - Earthquake 04 - Symmetry 05 - Hearts Collide 06 - No Brakes 07 - Love Kills 08 - New In Town 09 - Tune Into My Heart 10 - Mathematics 11 - Ghosts 12 - Meddle 13 - Click #'s 1-11 would be great single choices (obviously bar #'s 1 and 8). The others are nice but they don't measure up to the top 11. Awesome debut album nevertheless. :D Edited June 2, 200916 yr by Your Cereal Box
June 3, 200916 yr Author It's a bit upsetting that having followed this woman since last February she's put out an album so bloody poor. Disheartening even. She showed so much promise and in the end I think major label meddling has led to a tepid, confusing and non-album of album. At the very best it's a selection of tracks recorded with no nameable goal or purpose. It's pop music that exists for pop's sake and I don't think that's enough to warrant it serving any purpose. It's catchy enough but it's utterly robotic, stale (given she leaked most of it 6 months ago) and doesn't gel at all well. Some of the album is out and out Kylie copying other sections have been created through route of shortcut. Some terrible lyrics and then a very plain pretty-ish girl fronting it all. What makes it worse too is her horrible attitude to the obvious change that has gone on. She goes on and on how this moment in time she is where she wants to be. Her album is what she wants it to be, the life she's leading is what she wants. Marina Diamond her labelmate wrote quite an interesting blog that inadvertently made me think Boots, well worth checking out. She is without doubt my biggest personal letdown since getting into music I think :s To conclude; tepid.
June 3, 200916 yr I must agree that the best tracks for me are the one's we'd heard a while ago (Stuck on Repeat, Earthquake, Mathematics, Meddle, New In Town and now Remedy). Apart from that it seems quite average, I hope I can get into it though Edited June 3, 200916 yr by nickthenoodle
June 3, 200916 yr I actually think Meddle's a good song for describing the whole Boots fiasco :P I remember all the things you promised her etc :P She's a mixed up girl in a mixed up world and you know she don't mean any harm :P
June 3, 200916 yr I agree, Ben ;o New In Town is catchier than anything else imo too. Earthquake is so close to it though. After listening to the album in full i still can't get into her music. Maybe because it's not that good :(
