I'd like to see Mariah Carey sing 'Ice Queen'[/color]

NO WAY... I cant stant Pariah, UGH.... She'd just totally ruin it for me with her wavering voice and wailing.... Sharon SINGS the song, Mariah would just caterwaul and wail all over it and bludgeon every single octave to death.... The very thought of Mariah touching this song just fills me with absolute dread.....

If anyone was gonna do a cover of it, I'd much rather it was Alison Goldfrapp or Kate Bush....

Yes, but do you see chance for Ev reforming? I mean they only have 3 current members and they're probably only socially associated with each other and not musically.

I have to admit that I've been very dismayed by Amy's attitude towards her bandmates, she seems to change them almost as often as she changes corsets.....LOL I had a discussion about this matter over on the Evanescence AF, particularly when she chucked out the most recent two guys just because they were involved in another band... My argument basically was, that it was as daft as Tool hypothetically chucking out Maynard James Keenan just because he also sang with A Perfect Circle....

Yes! I love Nightwish and Celtic Frost. strangely enough I haven't even heard that CF even released an album last year. So I better get searching for that? Have you heard Flyleaf? They are pretty new on the seen and I looove them. People say they're a Christian band but none of their songs are really. . I mean when you get those grr growls surely that isn't respectable when singing about Christianity? I love bands with female leads, its so much more easier to relate to for me. Even Paramore, not that they rock or anything but I like them too. I also think that the whole female solo thing should be working way better for WT because seems like most people that listen to music these days are way more bias to female artists than to male artists. Have you heard WT's song 'A Rose For The Dead' when the male vocals came in and male growling it totally f***ed up the song. . Her vocals are soo good I'd like to see Mariah Carey sing 'Ice Queen'

You really need to check out "Monotheist", the Celtic Frost album, it's really quite fantastic, quite slow, epic, doomy-sounding (more to the My Dying Bride, Godflesh or Neurosis camps), there's beautiful, ethereal female vocals on a few of the tracks as well; it's a concept album basically which questions the meaning of religious belief and the very concept of "god", fukkin' heavy stuff lyrically as well as musically, it takes a few listens to fully appreciate, but when you get it, it seriously packs a wallop... Tom Warrior also did an Industrial/Electronic Metal project a few years back under the name of "Appolyon Sun", the album was called "Sub".. Imagine a heavier version of Nine Inch Nails or Rammstein....

LOL thats what I meant. If Mariah is so praised then she should try and sing something like Ice Queen. Ah, yes I love Goldfrapp strangely enough and not Kate Bush. We left out Katherine Jenkins! :smoke:

Yes so they're over unfortunately and WT are still around, and looking strong. I really hope people start voting for a WT AF (very unlikely) but I mean Sharleen Spiter AF?! Makes you think its quite possible yay

Searching. And honestly people would have strokes from that. . They think bands like Seether and Apocalyptica (which I both love) are heavy. Oh wait I forgot: FOB

Evanescence did appear at Download this year though, so not so sure about them being "over".... Ev wouldn't be the first band to have a "revolving door" policy on band members though, Cradle of Filth these days are basically 'Dani Filth and whoever', Napalm Death in the late-90s never even had a single original member in the band..., and Marilyn Manson has jettisoned more personnel than I can count over the years (of course, he made the HUGE mistake of getting rid of Twiggy Ramirez, who was clearly a more integral member than Manson would admit, MM have never been the same since....)...

Amy getting rid of Ben wasn't really as big a disaster as all that... I reckon it's he who can be blamed for the Poppiness of "Fallen", because as soon as he went, Ev started to get a bit heavier and more complex musically....

In saying this though, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Amy went solo in a couple of years tbh....

Strange that you like Sharon, but not Kate... I mean, Sharon is clearly very influence by The Mighty Bush..... In a live setting especially, she very much apes Kate's histrionic style (certainly not a bad thing, if you're gonna be influenced be influenced by the best....), and WT did do that "Running Up That Hill" cover..... ;)

Although I have to say, I prefer Placebo's version of that song, it's more downbeat and melancholy, Brian uses his voice extremely well, esp in conjunction with the female backing vox....

  I quite like Apocalyptica personally.....

But yeah, I mean, this is the "Metal" forum, and yet we get threads on the terminally useless Fightstar; who, as far as I'm concerned are just a second-rate Ash or Nirvana Tribute act fronted by a bloke who used to be in a Boy Band.....

I wouldn't either. It would probably better for her seeing she's fussy with the band mates and all. But I'm hoping if she does go solo, she does collaborations with male vocalists. I really liked her featuring on Seether's Broken. Also, 'What Have You Done' by Within is really really one of my all time favs just cause the male vocals on it along with Sharon is just brilliant. It also fits what Withins style should be. Because when Sharon takes over on a song it tends to go a bit celtic. .BUT THATS NOT A BAD THING because songs like Pale, Ice Queen etc are really masterpieces and probably a few of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard

I guess Bush does deserve a lot of credit but she just annoys me along with Placebo and lots others. . One group that really annoyed me was Epica, they were trying to be another successful heavier band with a female lead vocal. How unoriginal, especially when you consider the band copied Within Temptation and Flyleaf etc and only had one single that made it average. .I mean she basically did a look-alike of Lacey from Flyleaf and adopted a WT sound. .I don't know how long Epica have been around or anything. So, if Amy went solo she'd already have all those fans and an original style because as far as I know nobody else fits into her category as a soloist, well it depends what genre she goes. .I just pray its nothing like Good Enough which she composed and wrote, and was AWFULLY off compared to the rest of Open Door.

Epica have been around since '02, basically, a former member of After Forever (who I consider a superior band..) quit that band to form this one... I'm not crazy on Epica tbh, I find them a blander version of bands such as AF, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy and Leaves' Eyes.... I do have "The Phantom Agony" (2003) but haven't really cared much to listen to any of their other albums....

The song in the original post is love. I really like their songs and they never disappoint. ^_^

Some news. Rumours have it that Within Temptation will be releasing 'Hand Of Sorrow' as their next and 6th single off 'The Heart Of Everything' as part of promotion for their upcoming DVD Album entitled 'Black Symphony'. Fans have been made aware that their is going to be a competition. Where the fans can make a video for Hand Of Sorrow and the winning video will be made the official video for the song. I guess that after the Black Symphony. A new album will come out. As that seems to be the trend with WT. .

Well, it's kind of a cool gimmick, but of course, fans do this anyway all the time on "You Tube" for non-single album tracks.... LOL.... And I certainly question why on earth they're releasing another song off an album that's been out for 18 months... I always tend to dislike it when bands release about half the tracks off an album as singles (I always say three or four is perfectly adequate...), especially from a release that's been out for a considerable time...

Im sure Within Temptation arent exactly wanting to milk their albums. They probably didnt want to have Forgiven as an extra single, or Hand Of Sorrow. Its simply just promo for Black Symphony which will probably have Forgiven and Hand Of Sorrow on it as the leading songs. Its a DVD album after all. So I see it as a good thing. Especially since Forgiven was only released in Germany and Netherlands. So it wasnt technically a single. In comparison with the previous single All I Need. Which was huge. Hand Of Sorrow hasnt fully been confirmed yet as single. Whats so great is you never know what to expect with them. Theyre also touring the Netherlands again in November. . Talk about one of the busiest 'old' bands that are still around. :)

In an interview with Hollands Face Culture, vocalist Sharon den Adel not only spoke about the bands thoughts on their studio albums, but at the conclusion, stated that new album which theyve been recording since 2007 was slated for a release only in early 2010.
