November 3, 200816 yr There are racists in every country though the BNP get like 10% in some elections so that pretty much means 10% of people in this country are racists, in America there is 2 parties to vote for so racists are naturally going to vote republican, I would say the proportion of racists in America is no bigger than in this country Well I've never seen THAT many people who are as racist as some Americans are! I don't think there really as many people saying 'I'm not voting for so and so because he's black' as there is in America.

In the last 4 elections, the BNP have never once polled above 1% (or so says Wikipedia atleast). And I sincerely hope there are not a large number of racists in America... however, if a 10-point lead for Obama completely disappears in an election held the very next day, that would suggest worryingly widespread racism.

At the last General Election in the UK in 2005: BNP polled 192,746 just 0.7% of the national vote & UKIP polled 605,973 just 2.2% of the national vote. So those two parties combined = 2.9% a long long way short of 10%. As David Bowie once sung "This Is Not America".

November 3, 200816 yr Having said that, I stand by that Obama is almost guaranteed to win... and if he didn't, there will almost certainly be massive street riots. I live in Washington, DC. Let me assure you that if McCain wins, I will do my best to ensure there are massive street riots.
November 3, 200816 yr The statistician at http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/ gives Obama a 98.1% chance. Honestly, the media is just reporting it as a "tight race" to keep people glued to the TV/internet. McCain's ONLY chance is Pennsylvania which hasn't voted Republican in many years. November 4, 200816 yr Yeah, I really don't understand why everyone here is expecting it to be close. Pretty much every poll has been predicting an Obama landslide for about 6 weeks now lol.
November 4, 200816 yr The key here is early voting. About 30% of the United States population has voted early this year. Those people are voting for Obama by about 60%-40% EVEN IF the votes counted on election day are even, Obama would still win. His "get out and vote" campaign has worked remarkably well. By the way, all Obama has to do to win overall is to win the states of New Mexico, Colorado, and Iowa. Iowa and New Mexico are safe Obama... Colorado is leaning. And let's be honest, Obama is going to win Florida and Virginia too. Edited November 4, 200816 yr by NRS11
November 4, 200816 yr I just voted for Obama :D I would be so happy if GA ended up going to Obama with the surge.
November 4, 200816 yr here is a live text commentry of the days events: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7700298.stm it's pretty good you dont have to refresh it just updates, started this morning and should be going all night (or i think at 11 it becomes a video stream)
November 4, 200816 yr Even at this late stage I am hoping for a miracle and McCain winning but its a long shot now :(
November 4, 200816 yr I hope once the novelty of Americans voting in a black man wears off and he goes back on his election promises and raises taxes for even the middle classes to fund his lavish borrowing and spending plans and when the President of Iran is drinking tea in the Oval office posing for smiling pics with President Obama that the American people who voted Obama think to themselves "god what the f*** have I done :( " and re-elect the GOP in 2012
November 4, 200816 yr I think it's possible Obama could make some mistakes such as not taking the troops out of Iraq like he has promised. also i just read this on the BBC commentry: 1803 Fox News reports that Republicans in Philadelphia are saying two members of the Black Panthers have been intimidating voters at a polling station in the city. didnt even know Black Panthers were even still about

November 4, 200816 yr Not as much of a f***-up as having f***ing Palin a heartbeat away from PM. It really is quite off-putting for a lot of US voters!

November 4, 200816 yr But Craig, if the Republicans got into power in essence they'd have a rookie of their own. OK, I know McCain is no rookie, but his vice-president isn't and if he died whilst in office (which very well could happen) then we'd have a mad woman running the country. I don't like McCain's policies, but as a guy he is through and through America, but if he got into power I fear that might cloud his judgement in time. Also, McCain might also cause WW3 (so could Obama, but McCain is a radical). I think people want to vote Obama because he's something different. We've had the Republicans in power, and George Bush has f***ed up America massively, so American people are hoping Obama can change this. I believe he can, if he doesn't and he f***s up, well come 4 years time then the Republicans might get into power again. I don't think the colour of Obama's skin has even made him the Democrats candidate. I agree the colour of his skin maybe helped him a little, but I think he's appealed to a lot of American's with what he says he'll do if he gets into power.

November 4, 200816 yr Fox News is part of Rupert Murdoch Inc who fully support the Republican party in the USA, so it is hardly balanced news broadcasting. And as for Craig pathetic bashing of Obama, after the way Gorge W Bush and his cronies have so emphatically screwed up in the Middle East and the War on Terror making the USA more hated than it ever has been in the World; whilst the US economy took a massive surplus from the last Democratic Clinton administration and turned it into a huge debt under Bush's disgraceful administration; whilst further removing Banking Sector regulations in 2001/2 that were first put in place in 1933 after the first Great Economic Depression that have subsequently resulted in banks lending too much money to accumulate what turned into bad debt (just like nearly 80 years ago) so that we are on the brink of a second Great Economic Depression I think you have absolutely no basis to criticise Obama and the Democrats. Quite frankly a child of 4 or a chimpanzee could have done a better job of running the USA than George W Bush because they sure as hell would have caused less damage which is why George W Bush has very recently finished in the bottom 5 US Presidents of All Time in a poll carried out by top US Historians, political scientists & economists and the worst President since before World War 2 (yes even below President Nixon).

I had no idea you were THAT right wing  Even quite a lot of your beloved Tories would be Democrats in they were American politicians! Do you really think that Obama possibly getting elected is a 'novelty' because of his skin colour? Yeah of course it'd be a disaster if Obama is elected :( Poor people might get more help  There would be no more billions of dollars and lives wasted on illegal wars  (well hopefully we can find solutions for the current one) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ARRRRRRRRGH! Attitudes might change! People may be treated equally despite their bloody skin colour! *ahem* Having Joe Biden as his vice president has reassured me that lack of experience won't be too much of an issue. He won't be able to do as much as he wants to do because of the last Republican w*nker buggering up the ecomony but he'll do a hell of a good job to help make America great again! Now if only we could get rid of the right wing government over here with something better :( Do you really want Pallin having a good chance of gaining power? The world is heading for disaster because of the last Republican government which is going affect how much of your precious money you'll have and in the words of Obama himself WE NEED CHANGE and having someone like him as president of the most powerful country in the world would be a great start! So yeah what great things would McCain and Pallin do? What's the bad thing about Obama in your opinion? The skin colour debate is long gone apart from the obvious states. -_-
