the only two in the contest that have literally no chance are Britney and Lene Marlin, not because they are bad songs, just becuase Britney's won't get many high points like Jack says, and Lene would never ever get the 100+ points needed for the top 5, the song is far too well known

True, I did kinda forget the Lene Marlin song before this contest but now I've heard it again I remember it well as it was released here when I was really into music so that could harm it for me. -_- I think I used to have it on cassette but it's not in my box of them so I must have lost it at some point. :(

Really? I think this would be good for nearly anyone to enter. It's interesting finding out what other people like unless they send really cheap songs.

ANYWAY, this kinda got me thinking. (how dangerous!) Has anyone actually brought up the idea of separating this from the Eurovision forum? I know it was indirectly mentioned in a thread in the Lounge but has anyone actually asked Phil? :o

I think someone did mention it a week or so back in Lounge, i think it was Tyron. I cant remember what people's responses where though. I think it would be a good idea, their forum is by far one of the busiest ones here.

I think the contest would do better if it wasn't a sub-forum. It would be more noticible on the main forum page too.

 

I can imagine thier are many members on this forum that don't care about the eurovision at all but would be interested in entering a contest like this....but because they never go to the eurovision forum they don't really notice it. (and the sub-forum link is tiny :P)

 

As for people joining I'd say the more the merrier, more different tastes in music is what this contest really needs. ^_^

I definitely think we should separate this from the Eurovision forum, as it's far outgrown it. I mean seriously, we probably have double the activity. It would be great to see this grow out of a 'Eurovision contest' rather than simply a song contest based on the voting system used in Eurovision. We'd get a lot more participants.

You wouldn't want too many countries participating. :nocheer: More of them means more semi-finals which means more time needed and then you'll have a hard time fitting it all into one month. :unsure:

if it got to the stage where we were that big it might be an idea to do something along the lines of what me and Trash are doing for The Best Of and co-hosting.

 

Split the semis and finals between the top two, so SF1 & SF2 are the responsibility of the Runner up and SF3 & Final are the responsibility of the Winner.

 

 

 

It's all fine and well throwing new people at the contest but there'd have to be a limit somewhere so we don't end up losing songs in Semis that could have won BJSCIX/X/XI

Hmm that's a good point there. We don't want the contest to get that big or we could have semi-finals the size of the final eventually.

I understand what people are saying about it having outgrown the Eurovision forum...it really has become an entity in itself...but I mean there is a risk of about 60 countries taking part...it would just be unmanagable wouldn't it?

In theory no.

 

It means that goods songs would miss out on the finals and it would make it harder for newer countries to overtake the existing big 5 most of whom have won (bar me and trash) and have missed a contest yet been in all 11 (trash is the exception making 11/11 finals)

There should be a limit to how many countries can join...perhaps 50 or 60 and then new countries can join when older ones leave. (Something simalar to the waiting list and participating list on nation song contest at esctoday)
