Posted October 14, 200817 yr Reality competes with comedy in singles chart 10:37 | Tuesday October 14, 2008 Source: MW By Ben Cardew Reality TV goes up against parody in the singles chart this week, with X Factor winner Leon Jackson’s new single Don’t Call This Love (Syco) competing with The Winner’s Song (Polydor) by Peter Kay character Geraldine McQueen. Don’t Call This Love currently has the edge, shifting some 10,000 copies on day of release to sit at three in midweek sales reports, three places ahead of McQueen, a character from Kay’s spoof show Britain’s Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice, which aired last Sunday. The Winner’s Song was penned by Kay with Gary Barlow. However, both songs are behind Pink’s So What (RCA), which looks likely to spend another week at the top of the charts, while the Saturdays’ Up (Fascination) should secure a top five placing. On the albums chart, Keane look set to secure their third straight number one album with Perfect Symmetry (Island). It is currently 5,000 sales ahead of Oasis’ Dig Out Your Soul (Big Brother), which continues to sell strongly. Boyzone and Funeral For A Friend should also secure top ten debuts with Back Again – No Matter What (Polydor) and Memory And Humanity (released on their own label Join Us). =================================== Singles 01 P!nk 4k ahead 02 Kings Of Leon 03 Leon Jackson 10k 04 Saturdays 05 Sugababes Top 10 Geraldine McQueen Snow Patrol Top 30 Kooks Jack White & Alcia Keys Keane - Spiralling 26 Jordin Sparks - Tattoo Ting Tings Top 40 Sash! ==================================== Albums 01 Keane 5k ahead 02 Oasis 03 Kings Of Leon 04 Boyzone 05 Will Young Top 10 Duffy Funeral For A Friend Top 15 Chicane Basshunter Top 20 Ting Tings 19 Jennifer Hudson Top 30 Coldplay Dave Clark 5 MGMT Top 40 Ray Lamontague Lucinda Williams Boyzone - B Sides NO SALES INFO Please keep this thread on topic at all times, I do not want to repeat myself every week, no text talk is allowed, do not write in block CAPS, and keep all requests in one post if you can, and try to read the thread topic before asking a question and please be patient while you are waiting for your question to be answered. October 14, 200817 yr 01 P!NK 02 LEON JACKSON 03 KINGS OF LEON 05 THE SATURDAYS 07 SNOW PATROL 19 TING TINGS
October 14, 200817 yr Pink #1 today but unfortunately I think Leon will be #1 by Sunday with his single more readily available & the fact he's doing signings.
October 14, 200817 yr The Peter Kay influence is surprisingly high - look how many people bought Amarillo (admittedly for the video). I'd expect to see Geraldine McQueen beat Leon Jackson this week. The X Factor tactic of holding back Leona until the new series for maximum exposure worked last year but I don't think Leon has the fans or the marketability to make the same impression as Leona did with 'Bleeding Love'. I don't think Snow Patrol have a fast enough audience to ever hit no.1 in the singles chart. Look at the slow, steady chart run of 'Chasing Cars' - I think the new one will hang around the Top 20 for a while but never peak any higher than, say, Top 3.
October 14, 200817 yr ^ The show was rubbish though. I managed about 20 mins of it. It was absoloutely slated in the papers aswell. I don't think it will do that well.
October 14, 200817 yr I have a feeling Pink might make another week at no1. Leon will be about no4. IMO Leon and Geraldine will have quite big physical sales which will put them in the top two... at least by the end of the week anyway. I'm expecting Pink to be either 1 or 2 in the 1st midweek report
October 14, 200817 yr The Saturdays are 4! Around 7,000 sales, apparently! Edited October 14, 200817 yr by PeytonDavis

October 14, 200817 yr It was posted on their forum a few minutes ago, so it may not be true. Sounds about right, though. They've had 2 days of iTunes and a full day of physicals.
