Take That have refused to change the name of their forthcoming album, despite it carrying the same title and release date as Britney Spears's new LP.

The group will debut The Circus on December 1, with Spears's new record Circus out the same week.

However, Take That's manager told the Daily Record that the boyband are sticking with their current title: "The boys have worked on this for months, like Britney, and we certainly won't be changing the title.

"When you work that far in advance, it's impossible to know what people will call albums. Erasure had an album Circus. The name is not copyrighted.

"I doubt there will be confusion. Fans will either ask for the new record by Take That or Britney Spears."

An insider added: "Britney is not likely to change the title. She announced it two weeks ago. There won't be confusion - Take That are great at what they do and everyone is excited about Britney's comeback."

Oh yeah, pure coincidence. That's kinda lame if you ask me. I bet Britney had the title first. :kink:

I didn't know they were releasing their album the same week as Britney though. :( f***. Hopefully she can still get top 2 again or... even #1!

Since when does anyone have the copyright on a word?

Stop being so bloody childish! I'm sure the fans will know which is which! Blood and sand! And if you must know - Erasure had an album called Circus too - so was Britters cashing in on them (they were after all a darned sight more musically talented* See my apology below).

Sorry for my harsh words and I now withdraw the 'talented' bit above ... I really like Britney and Toxic is one of my all time favourites ... but I think we're being a bit precious here about the name of an album!

I actually really don't care at all although I think it's really weird that Brit and TT are releasing the same week with almost identical album titles.

Thats what im trying to get at. I wouldnt give two flying monkeys if they were released at different times but come on.. Same week, same title, more hype on one album than the other... Seems a bit too coincidental...

When Take That decided on the format of their comeback tour ... they were heavily influenced by Cirque De Soleil - having seen the show about a dozen times - the whole look of RMF (the highlight of the night) was definitely circus themed ... so I think they had it in mind for a long time. They've also been out in LA and LV for the last few months so they probably decided then on the name. They didn't just sit there and wait till Britters came along and thought 'ooooh that sounds like a good name for an album'.

Anyway ... the easiest thing to do when you go to the shop is for you to say "I'd like the new BRITNEY album please". I'm sure you'll find the staff will be helpful and give you the BRITNEY album. Or is that perhaps a little too difficult?

I agree - I don't think it's easy to pick up a Take That album by accident.

One has Britney on the cover, and one has 4 men. How difficult can it be?

Exactly! Now if it was a girl group, with four manly looking women ... there may be a problem!

^^^ TT will probably in the UK but Brit will beat them WW !!!!

she's a global superstar! TT are just big in the UK :P

That's true! She'll undoubtedly sell more worldwide. I think Take That want to just concentrate on the UK (talk of the next tour doesn't even include Europe - just the UK and Ireland). I suppose when you've got kids to look after like three of them you have to spend a little more time at home with them and besides - they're not getting any younger.

Seriously on the album name ... there's no way they could change it even if they wanted to. The cd is coming out together with a 48 page hard-cover book (I have seen this advertised about a year ago actually - but didn't connect the two). So I suppose a load of work has already gone into that.

Anyway ... good luck to both of them.

The only way it could confuse someone is if someone asks their granny to buy one of the albums for birthday/christmas

Seriously though, its just an album title, who cares? The album title shouldnt matter, its the music that counts

That would be tragic ... because the recipient would end up with a Westlife album!

Norma

who cares about the other 'circus' lol?

I bet both albums will be sh/te anyway!
