That's not technically true. Yes, it did have more sales than Change did, but it was released right after Christmas so people had money to download it. Sales were high that week but only because it was Christmas. If it was another week it probably would have had weaker sales. ^_^

Change was a Xmas week release though - also a huge week and same time of year roughly. Single sales have risen hugely across the board though so its hard to compare. Think i mentioned similar in the singles thread a couple of months ago. I really think Change underperformed big style though. (Probably because it was $h!t) Obviously NCD was a flop, but it did more than expected in the end :)

IMO the release off 'Change' was handled really badly. Yeah 'AYN' was their biggest hit to date and I'm fine with that but releasing the experimental 'Denial' and not-one-of-their-best-ballads in 'Change' straight after was a big no-no in my eyes. Admittedly, single sales were never gonna be huge after both the album and lead single rocketed to Number One, but I would have released them as follows:

01 | About You Now

02 | Never Gonna Dance Again

03 | Change

04 | Surprise (maybe Denial Double A Side)

  • Author

I'd have gone:

01 About You Now

02 Never Gonna Dance Again

03 Denial

And then onto Catfights. Perhaps a 4th single if it could be squeezed in; either Change or Mended By You...

Apparently they didn't go with NGDA because it sounded alike to Call The Shots, but I'm not sure I believe that since the album sticker mentioned Change from October lol. Much as I love Change (and the fabulous Wideboys remix) it was a wasted second single after the momentum AYN had built.

Agreed Jark, that'd be my single order, and i think the momentum would've allowed a 4th in June to coincide with the tour which would have probably been MLIP. NGDA and CTS don't sound alike what a crock, even though they are both Xeno (and all his stuff sounds kind of similar i guess). Denial was a nice single choice i think, but suffered from the loss of momentum from change. The fact it sold basically the same and was the 3rd single released at a much lower sales period kind of proves it, and it actually sold well comparing to their other 3rds (whereas Change was poorer to their seconds).

I do have a soft spot for Surprise (Goodbye), its certainly the closest also ran for a single IMO, but then Cathy songs are always fab :D

Anyhoo, NCD thread! It did amazing leaping 83-23 IMO, we all thought it had missed top40 that sunday as every time the next song wasn't it on the chart show we were thinking "can't have got that high, must've missed" etc

i think if NGDA was released second it would have sold 150k+

then i think it would have been Change and finally Denial.
