June 8, 200619 yr I remember Radio One not playing Marvin Gaye's classic 1982 single Sexual Healing... just because it had the word 'sexual' in the title!
June 8, 200619 yr I remember Radio One not playing Marvin Gaye's classic 1982 single Sexual Healing... just because it had the word 'sexual' in the title! I remember in the chart show the presenter always referred to the song as just "Healing" Records by Judge Dread were all banned by the BBC as well. Hi Hi Hi by Wings because of explicit sexual lyrics (not drug references) Tell Laura I love Her was banned because of the reference to dying in a stock car race . Max Romeo - Wet Dream - A song about his bedroom ceiling - the BBC wouldn't buy that . Ivor Biggun - The winker's song (misprint) - Sexually explicit Lil Louis - French Kiss - "Heavy breathing" All these recordings were banned during the gulf war in 1990. Jose Felicano & The Doors - Light My Fire Something Happens - "Parachute" The Cure - Killing an Arab Little angels - Bone yard Massive Attack had the word "attack" dropped during the gulf war. Bomb the Bass also suffered during this period. The Kinks - Lola - was originally banned because it mentioned Coca-Cola, was later changed to Cherry Cola to get airplay. June 8, 200619 yr Massive Attack bowed to record company pressure during the Gulf War andd did indeed drop 'Attack' from their name - and they've been vocal ever since about their total opposition to this crazy decision.
June 8, 200619 yr Split Enz 'Six Months In A Leaky Boat' was banned by the BBC during the Faulklands War. The Cougars 'Saturday Night At The Duckpond' was banned for bast*rdising 'Swan Lake' Edited June 8, 200619 yr by findingout
June 9, 200619 yr Can you think of anymore. well like the disney thread in the film area, i was also thinking of this last night. actaully trying to remember who did a song about his ding-a-ling (wah-wah   ) wasnt my ding-a-ling by chuck berry banned for being ultrapervy? think it should be the next crazy frog single  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/PublicTransport_CrazyFrog.jpg Bloke 1: "MY DING-A-LING, MY DING-A-LING WONT YOU TOUCH MY DING-A-LING" Frog and bloke 2: no thanks!!!
June 9, 200619 yr Wasn't The Kingsmen and Louie Louie banned? I know it was in the States, even the FBI have a file on it. You can see it up on the FBI website. It's a classic tune, I love it.
June 9, 200619 yr Dr Hook-'Cover of the Rolling Stone',was banned because it was seen as advertising. Didn't some UK radio station ban the WHOLE 'Exile on Main Street by the Rolling Stones??? It was seen as promoting decadence, or something!!! Edited June 9, 200619 yr by findingout
June 9, 200619 yr Peaches by The Stranglers wasn't banned by the BBC. there was a radio version which they used to play on the top 20, which replaced the two words deemed offensive with, well less offensive words! Other banned songs include: When I'm Cleaning Windows - George Formby! It's hard to believe ANYONE could find this record offensive, but in the 1930s a song about the sights a window cleaner saw was considered a bit too risque.. Love To Love You Baby - Donna Summer having a fake orgasm several times over in the space of 3 minutes was enough to see Donna banned. That was in 1976, in 1989 "French Kiss" featured another over excitable woman and was played with no problem! (EDIT: Just noticed this was in the original list!) You're Fabulous Babe - Kenny Williams Banned in 1977 not because of lyrical content (it was tripe, but not rude) but simply because the BBC thought it was too blatantly advertising - it was the Faberge perfume add that ran at the time, adapted for a single with slightly altered lyrics. Yet the BBC were inconsistent - a few months earlier Radio 1 were playing Dancin' Easy by Danny Williams, which was the Martini advert (anytime anyplace anywhere there's a beautiful place we can share...) with slightly altered lyrics, and were still playing Lipsmackin' Rock 'N' Rollin' by Peter Blake, which was adapted from the Pepsi Cola advert. Perhaps they thought they were being turned into ITV or something... Edited June 9, 200619 yr by Robbie

Hard to believe nowadays, but pretty sure the ban was short lived. Can you think of anymore. Can't believe FGTH's "Relax" got banned by the beeb. There was nothing offensive about it. It may have had something to do with sex, but we all do it. It's part of everyday life. Sex is one of my hobbies.
June 10, 200619 yr I absolutely love 'French Kiss'. A top choon! Wasn't D-Mob 'We Call It Aciieeed' banned? One that DID slip through the net was The Shamen 'Eberneezer Goode'... E's are good E's are good....
June 10, 200619 yr I remember in the 1980s XTC - Dear God was banned by the BBC as it upset religious groups because of it's atheist themed lyrics. Ironically that was picked up by college radio stations in the USA & is their most famous song in the United States becoming quite a large hit there probably in defiance of the Right-Wing Reagan-era Republican government.
June 10, 200619 yr Wasn't The Kingsmen and Louie Louie banned? I know it was in the States, even the FBI have a file on it. You can see it up on the FBI website. #yeah was something about this on that c4 show. coz tyhey couldnt make out the mumbled words. all innocent however.
