What John Fashanu said about his brother was awful and he should of supported his brother in his hour of need. I'm sure he regrets it though and im sure he was under pressure at the time from neanderthals like Vinny Jones and Dennis Wise at Wimbledon

Scolari's comments were reported when he was being considered for the England job. That's the main reason I was relieved he didn't take it.
Well, I hate football, but it doesn´t matter what he said, teams will give the job for someone who is competent, regardless of their ideas in life... They´re not paid to be philosophers, they just need to make the team win...

Well in the UK it's against the law to fire a player for being gay. So they'd be wise not to hire someone who will get sued... not to mention the bad publicity...

Not always. Some people are naturally that shape, so it's not like they can click their fingers and change shape. .

thats a red herring, very, very few people are obese / fat by genetic reasons, the vast majority are greedy pigs.

Not always. Some people are naturally that shape, so it's not like they can click their fingers and change shape. People take the p*** out of players names too, they can't change that either.

..And, er, how many people with Cyril Smith-style glandular problems do you see becoming professional footballers mate....?

If a player is fat or overweight, it is because he is drinking too much or has a bad diet... Either way, it directly affects his (or indeed her, let's not forget about our lady footballers out there...) performance as an athlete.. Being gay does NOT affect an athlete's performance, therefore it is NOT a legitimate area for viciousness or criticism any more than being black or Asian is.... -_-

I can understand Scott's hostility towards football however as Rangers and Celtic have certainly contributed giving football a bad name over the years bringing all kinds of c**p into two teams kicking a ball of leather around like bloody religious arguments ffs! Lets not forget Rangers in the UEFA Cup last season. <_<

That aint the only reasons mate, trust me.... I wont argue that it's major factor in my dislike though.... I dont like the way that football has become more about a business than an actual sport, the hype about it is just ridiculous, all too often you see these "big games" that are built up to be almost like Cinema Blockbusters and then the actual game itself is incredibly boring with both teams having too much to lose and not playing their actual games; players are far too over-indulged, making absolutely outlandish pay demands, and then they turn out to be damp squibs like Shevchenko or that Romanian bloke whose name I cant remember, who played for Chelsea and got kicked out because of being a big ass druggie....

Anyway, I just find it all to be ridiculous, I literally remember being a kid, playing in the park, the archetypal "jumpers or jackets for goalposts", THIS is the game at its purest frankly, what you have in the Premiership and Serie A is just a bad joke and a corruption of all the sport actually is and should be about....

Take Mido of Middlesbrough as a good example! He was WAY too overweight but now he's lost a bit and he scored a few goals when he was in the team earlier this season! It could either go that or get as bad as Neil Ruddock who couldn't fit into any pair of shorts he tried on.

Well sometimes it's not always the player but the biggest scum of all in football.. agents <_< Now there is where a hell of a lot of corruption comes from  And then there's Seth Johnson when he went to Leeds and he was going to ask for £15,000 and he was then offered £35,000, you'd hardly say no to that would you? That of course ended up with Leeds racking up their huge amounts of debt and no they're down where they deserve and the longer they stay there the better! (there was even 'crowd trouble' at Leeds v Millwall last week! SHOCK HORROR :o :o :o ) The Romanian bloke was Adrian Mutu and was the ONLY good thing Chelsea have ever done.. At least the Premiership isn't as bad as Serie A but then again it's just not been proven but there's always good drama in the Premiership every season and lots of good matches and there are plenty of good big games like Man United v Chelsea this season was actually good now Scolari has got them playing attractive football which still doesn't make up for what he said in the past but I just can't help watching it!

Anyway I can't believe I'm doing this as a United fan but for anyone thinking about the negative things about modern football here is a reasonably recent game that MADE football fans and certainly reminded me why I'm a football fan.

Liverpool v West Ham 2006 FA Cup Final

Well sometimes it's not always the player but the biggest scum of all in football.. agents <_<

GAWD, how could I forget about them..... I suppose I could argue that I was including these types in my point about it being more business and sport.... Yes, agents are certainly part of the problem, a very significant one, it's probably them who put all these ridiculous notions into players' heads which leads to them becoming over-indulged and unreasonable... At the end of the day, an agent's fee is based upon his player's income, so I guess it IS the agents who are to blame for a lot of these ludicrous pay demands, most players aint really that bright to think that sort of thing up on their own.... I suppose the perception of the players being the main ones to blame is because it is they, not the agent, who end up being the subjects of Tabloid "exposes"....

I've thought of another reason for my dislike of the modern game - the fact that the spirit of competition has been eroded from the game and the leagues all seem dominated by the same few teams.... It seems to be less about who has the most attractive football, but more about which team has the more money to chuck around.... Not every team is gonna be fortunate enough to have some Russian billionaire or an Arab oil consortium backing them, so it aint exactly a level playing field..... Some teams just seem to have more money than others, and it leads to a distortion in the competitive aspect.. Nowhere is this more punctuated than in the SPL, where it's basically the "Rangers and Celtic" show ad fukkin infinitum..... <_<

And I take it neither of these examples had anything to do with "glandular problems" or "water retention" leading to weight problems....

As David Baddiel once said, "Water retention, fukk off, CAKE retention more like"... Mind you, when he said this, he was young and thin himself.....

In this day and age and in the world's biggest sport.

Oh dear, football needs to bring itself into the 21st century.

I didn't say it was alright for gay footballers to be criticised (we're all equal at the end of the day), all i'm saying is it WILL happen. This is football afterall. For all the good fans at games, you get 200 or so absolute cocks who get blathered before hand and just stir $h!t. Banter is all apart of the game with opposition supporters, but you can't stop any abuse given to players. Fans still sing about Hillsbrough, Heysel, the Munich Disaster etc. and quite frankly it's f***in sick, and it makes me sick when I hear opposition supporters sing about them.

Maybe i'm stereotyping people, but the FA can't kick abuse out of football, it's impossible. Yeah, maybe gay footballers should be able to come out in full confidence, but if they want to keep earing their top bucks, then they should stay in the closet publicly for the time being imo...

It's only going to change if several gay players come out at once. Preferably they would be supported by other players of the stature of, say, Steven Gerrard who could say "Yes, I've known he's gay for years. It doesn't make any difference, he's still my mate."
Considering the recent chants aimed towards Sol Campbell (who isn't even gay) by Spurs fans it's highly unlikely any footballers will be coming out in the near future...

But has he fired anyone for that??? That´s just a comment he made 6 years ago, and it sounds like an informal conversation, rather then an official statement of himself. I´m pretty sure he wouldn´t fire his best players if they were gay, or keep a crappy player just cause he´s straight.

But are they really that many? I doubt football is something that atracts too many gay people, just like fashion doesn´t attract too many straight males. People like to fantasize about loads of football players being in the closet, but so far, all the gay people I know aren´t interested in football in the least. Plus, it should be very embarrasing in the vestiary.

although that sounds like a sweeping generalisation... i think theres some truth in it.

by the way jjn.... predestination...if we are all pre-programmed, our lives are set out before us and we have no choice but to follow the pre-destined path god has laid out for us.... how can homosexuality or even paedophillia be 'wrong'? god must have pre-destined what some people will do, therefore god must agree with it!

so either god allows homosexuality, or our lives arnt pre-destined, or theres no god!

please answer this, cos ill not let it rest until you can explain your position on this!:) seeing as you believe in god, think homosexuality is 'un natural and against gods wishes, but believe we have no say, no free will, to live our lives as we see fit.... in short, our lives are pre-ordained.

Sorry mate, but this does sound rather like you're an apologist for totally unacceptable, neanderthal behaviour, however unintended it may be on your part... Just saying stuff like "it's football, it's always been this way...".. Well, it used to be the "way" in this country to call black people "wogs", "coons" and "n/iggers", and asian people "p/aki" or "coolies", we had a show called "The Black and White Minstrel Show", we gave our kids "gollywogs" to play with..... I think you'll agree that it was best that we did jettison those sorts of attitudes..... -_-

It HAS to happen, Football has to clean up its act, lest it become an absolute national shame.....

People over-exadurate (sp?) the racism issue too much in football. I NEVER hear any racist abuse (it does happen of course, why where doesn't it?). Like I said of course it still happens, but it's really not that bad, especially comparing it Croatia, Spain etc...

If the stats are correct (i.e. 1 in every 10 people are gay) then that would mean there'd be a gay footballer in at least every time. I do kind of agree with one of the posters above who stated that there isn't actually a lot of gay footballers, and I really do think this is of case (of course there's still quite a few). But if a player came out then it would seriously haper their career imo. They'd be an easy target for the boo boys, and football is all about confidence, and being subdued to horrible chants for 90 minutes would just kill them i'm sure.

Some football fans joke about death, so to them joking about someones sexuality is almost like child play. Like I said earlier, fans still sing about Heysel, Munich and Hillsbrough yet I highly doubt this will ever stop because it's an easy target to wind people up. As it is in derby games i've heard chants from Evertonians about Steven Gerrard's family before, and what do they have to do with the game? Nothing. It's sick and it needs to be stopped, but you've gotta be realistic, and it won't stop. One of the chief reasonings being the people who run football are all idiots (FIFA, UEFA, all the Football Associations...).

Well, frankly, I take issue with your even describing these creatures as "fans", they clearly aren't... Scum of the Earth and a disgrace to the sport would be my description.... Frankly, if I had my way, I'd do whatever was necessary to find and identify these hooligans, ban them from every ground in the country, and if they had a season ticket, I'd take it off them and give it to underpriveledged kids who can't afford to get into see their favourite teams play...

And I seriously dont understand the attitude of some "fans", I mean, it seems they would rather support a player who goes out binge drinking, snorting coke, is overweight and whose form is shot to hell because of their lifestyle, but, hey, it's okay, cos he's "one of the lads" right...? While at the same time giving a player who might score 30 goals in a season and slot the winner in the Champions League final and keeps themselves fit and healthy dog's abuse just because he happens to be a "poof"..... Seriously, explain it to me.....
