To my surprise, Amazon.uk are already taking orders

for the 'The Virgin Book Of British Hit Albums' -

even though it is not out until 4th June 2009.

The OCC told me earlier in 2008 that there would

be an Albums Book, & they have gone ahead with it.

(Without waiting to see how well the Singles Book

Sells this Year).

And even though the 'The Virgin Book Of British

Hit Singles' is not out yet - it comes out next

Month. (6th November).

Here is the Link for the Albums Book:,

And it'll probably be as bad as the singles one is sounding - only weeks in the Top 40 counted, with the albums between 41-75 reduced to little more than glorified footnotes.
i know have concerns about this new book. I have the last guiness one and i think their A-Z section was great although the trivia had really slipped. Will buy the new one anyway i'm sure! :S

I've just been looking at the 'Write-Up' of

the 'British Hit Albums Book', at Amazon.uk.

(It is a New 'Write-Up').

I see that, (Left Of Screen), you can 'Zoom In' to

see a Page from the Book. There is a 'Synopsis'

of the Book on the 'Zoom In' page - BUT, it says

that the Book has every Album to reach the UK

Charts since 1952.

As you will probably know, the Singles Chart began

in Mid-November 1952 - but the Album Chart did not

start until the end of July 1956.....

And, looking at the 'Zoom In' Page at Amazon.uk,

it looks like Virgin want us to comment on the

Album Book - so that future Editions can be better.

Also, they say that they know that many 'Chart Fans'

were disappointed with the 'Hit Singles' Book, (2008),

but, that they've taken our criticisms on board,

with regard to the 'Hit Albums' Book.

I believe that the Top 25 Album Acts, (based on

Chart Weeks), will have their Top 3 Best Selling

Albums Listed, (beneath their Entry), with 'Rounded'

Sales. As you can see, Michael Jackson's Entry is

shown, in the Amazon.uk 'Zoom In'.

Looks like it'll have full weeks-on-chart info, so that alone will make it a much better buy than the Singles book.

If it has top 75 and full weeks on top 75 I will buy it (which appears to be the case)

The singles book I looked at was rally poor.

This is out now in Waterstones at £14.99. It's definitely an improvement on the singles book. It has more information on band line-ups that even the Guinness books had. It also has all compilations that made the compilations chart listed by Various Artists - EMI, Various Artists - Telstar etc. Which is nice.

The only thing I don't like is that they don't have the star and circle for number 1/top 10 hits. I liked that because it made an act's biggest hits stand out. But that's my only criticism really.

If that's your only criticism that has to be good news. Virgin / OCC definitely seem to have listened to criticisms of their singles book. Now we just have to hope it sells well so they make the necessary changes for the next edition of the singles book.

I love it. Mine arrived yesterday (Amazon pre-order...) and I spent last night doing some checking... Lots and LOTS of the (same) old errors from previous versions in this one. Such as missing peaks and weeks and some of the 2007 hits have similar errors as well - it's not just old copied errors, new ones have been added.

I intend to compile a list to send on to the makers, so if anybody wants to send me what they have spotted, that would be helpful.

Im tempted to buy it but im put off by the fact the singles one was a pile of $h!te. Does this have weeks in top 100 or just top 75?

It will be weeks in the top 100 from August 1981 to December 1988 and top 75 from December 1978 to August 1981 and January 1989 onwards since that was the size of the official chart.

I'm not into albums as much as the singles, I wait for the next version of the Singles hopefully it be much better than the first virgin book.

The 2010 'British Hit Singles' Book will be far, far better than the 2008 Singles Book.

I know that for a fact. I know someone at The OCC. He's told me that they plan to

include far more in it than was in the 2008 Book. They realise that the Singles Book

was regarded as not very impressive.

Hopefully the 2nd Singles Book will be Published in 2010 - Virgin are waiting to see if

the new 'Hit Albums' Book sells well.....(So - I for one - am hoping that 'Chart Fans'

are not put off buying the Album Book, just because the 2008 Singles Book was pretty

disappointing.....).

Agreed. Anyone who thought the singles book was rubbish should buy the albums book. That's the clearest way of demonstrating to Virgin what we want.
